      Don't forget that fresh meat, fresh fish (especially oily fish) and whole grains such as oats, wholewheat, wholegrain rice etc, are also chock full of vitamins and minerals and have their own long list of health benefits.

          foods don't burn fat, they may or may not contain it, if you overeat on any foods you store the excess calories as fat, but there are no foods that burn fat. Your body burns fat. Any time you do anything, your body uses calories. If you eat fewer calories than you use, your body burns some of your fat store to make up the surplus.

          to burn fat and keep it off long term:

          1. eat slightly less food than you burn (slightly less - if you eat a lot less you go into starvation mode and your body burns muscle and stores more fat, your metabolism slows down and you set yourself up for serious problems in the future)

          2. do lots of exercise to help you achieve ^^^ without compromising good nutrition.

          3. build up your muscles, this speeds up your metabolism so you burn more calories even while you sleep.

          what kinds of exercise?

          the best way to burn fat and keep it off for good is to combine good nutrition with both cardio and muscle building exercise. To enable your body to actually increase your muscle mass, the ideal is to eat several small meals a day rather than 3 large meals a day. Each meal MUST contain protein and should also contain healthy carbs, fresh fruit or veg and some healthy fat. Men should eat 6 small meals a day, women 5.

          cardio you can do up to 6x per week, every day, you burn a little more fat if you do cardio before breakfast BUT you must eat a good healthy breakfast immediately afterwards to prevent your body going into starvation mode.

          weights you should do 2-3 times a week as a beginner, a whole body workout. when that becomes too easy, you can move to a split routine (different body parts on different days) but you MUST give your muscles time to recover between workouts (2 days or so rest at least, maybe more for beginners)

          The mistake most men make is to not give themselves enough rest/recovery time, the mistake most women make is to not eat enough food and to ignore the fat burning/metabolism boosting effect of muscle building/strengthening exercise.

          women don't need to worry about their muscles getting too big from weight training, because they don't get big, they just get more toned. (provided they don't take steroids, which imitate the effect of male hormones!!!) --- Men are naturally stronger and will be doing the same exercises with heavier weights, and the male hormones (plus exercise, rest and good nutrition) will increase the size of the muscles.
