  • Someone Help Please...

Its all about "balancing equations", can anyone help me:

    Co2 + C = Co

    Mg + HSO4 = MgSO4 + H2

    Fe + H2O = Fe3O4 + H2

    SO2 + O2 = SO3

Please... anyone , :( Jazakallah in advance.

OK im not completely thick, the first one should be "CO2"

i have a slight idea, but balancing equations is a nightmare for me.

It has been too many years since I had chemistry to help akhi. :(

...but I really enjoyed chemistry. I had an excellent teacher who liked the maritime cadets, so whenever we looked confused, he would relate the problem to a shipboard issue and we would get it.
“Fear your sins more than you fear the enemy as your sins are more dangerous to you than your enemy. We Muslims are only victorious over our enemy because their sins outnumber ours, not for any other reason. If our sins were equal to those of our enemy, then they would defeat us due to their superior numbers and resources.”

        C02 + C = 2CO

        2MG + 2HSO4 = 2MGS04 + H2

        3FE + 4H20 = FE304 + 4H2

        2S02 + 02 = 2S03
Give me a clear vision, that I may know where to stand and what to stand for - because unless I stand for something, I will fall for anything.

LOOL...I'm sure they are right Inshallah. It's been a year since I did Chemistry A level

If you don't understand, I can explain the process step by step Inshallah.

                The first equation: Co2 + C = Co doesn't make sense

                    Mg + HSO4 = MgSO4 + H2

Mg + HSO4 is the left side of the equation

MgSO4 + H2 is the right side of the equation

First look at the left side:

How mant Mg's (Magnesium) are there? One.

Now look at right hand side:

How many Mg's (Magnesiums) are there? One.

                    So Mg's are fine

Now analyse the second one -------> HSO4

When you split this up and you get H and So4. Yeah?

You have ONE H on the left hand side

You have TWO H on the right hand side....since it says H2

SO all you have to do is add 2 infront of the H on the left hand side. Okay? :p

This is when it gets difficult :p

                    So far we have:

                    Mg + 2HSO4 = MgS04 + H2

But is it still balanced? No!

If you look at the equation...on the left hand side.... you have EIGHT oxygens.

                    Why?

Because the oxygen is 4.....and times it by 2....you get 8. Why do you times it by 2....because it's 2H.

But on the right hand side the oxygen is only 4.....S04 - see what I mean?

So to make both oxygens 8....you place a 2 infront of Mg in the right hand side.

                    So now we have:

                    Mg + 2HSO4 = 2MgS04 + H2

                    But it's STILL not balanced

                    Why?

Because now the Mg's on BOTH sides are NOT balanced :eek3:

On the left hand side we have ONE Magnesium

On the right hand side we have TWO Magnesium.

So basically...all you do...is you add 2 to the Mg in the left hand side.

And now you have this equation as your final answer:

                    2Mg + 2HSO4 = 2MGSO4 + H2

Is it balanced? Yes it is.

You have 2Mg on both sides

You have 2 H on both sides

You have 2 S on both sides

You have 8 oxygens on both sides.

Cool,... i think i get all the balancing bits now, you just have to break it up..., right.

Thank you for your help. + rep. (already) :D
