The month of Ramadhan begins after the sighting of the lunar crescent on the previous evening.

The coloured bands on the maps below indicate areas of the world where the crescent is likely to be visible on the date indicated:

Map  produced with MoonCalc 5.2 by Dr Monzur Ahmed using Yallop/RGO criterion

Zone A: crescent easily visible with naked eye
Zone B: crescent visible with naked eye if conditions perfect
Zone C: may need optical aid to find crescent before naked eye sighting
Zone D: crescent visible with optical aid only

It is expected that the new crescent moon will be visible from parts of North, Central and South America and possibly West Africa on the evening of 26th Nov 2000.
It is expected that the new moon will be visible from the rest of the world on the evening of 27th Nov 2000.

Hence pending actual moon sighting, Ramadhan should begin in the Americas and possibly West Africa on 27th Nov 2000 and the rest of the world on 28th Nov 2000.
