The sun and the moon have direct significant influence
on life on earth. The light of the sun brings almost all energy
to the earth which is present on its surface apart from the volcanic
lava (see G6) and the under water vents of black smokers (B1).
It's light not only nourishes the plants in combination with CO2,
the water cycle or the temperature but it also controls the biological
clocks inside each and every cell of every living being on the
surface of the planet, since it hits the earth in different angles
during the day as the earth turns around it's own axis and the
angle changes also between winter and summer increasingly with
the distance to equatorial regions.
So we can distinguish between different times
of the day, such as morning, midday and afternoon and also between
the seasons. Without the sun this would not be possible. Solar
clocks have been in wide use since antique times also the direction
of North, South, East and West can be predicted by observing
it, given the position.
The moon reflects the light of the sun and brightens
up certain nights in different stages in the shadow of the earth.
Many biological and geological phenomena depend on that such
as the period of women, the fertility of fish, plants, breeding
seasons, the high and low tide of the oceans and also much more.
It turns around the earth in a month and returns to the same
stage exactly in this time and 12 times a year. The sun and
the moon together enable us to measure time in days, months
and years, etc.

The picture above shows THE SUN-MOON-EARTH SYSTEM
WHICH ENABLES US TO MEASURE TIME. We can associate the following
Ayah:
"He it is that cleaveth the daybreak (from the
dark): He makes the night for rest and tranquillity and the
sun and moon for the reckoning (of time)"
Surah Al-An'am 6 Ayah 96
