Wa alaykum salam,
I think it means you will recieve half that pay Sajid. Meaning its a part-time job you are looking at?![]()
O you passionately in love with the meaning of Our beauty,
Our dowry is expensive for the one who proposes to Us:
An emaciated body and spirit full of care and eyes which do not taste sleep,
And a heart which does not contain other than Us.
If you want to pay the price,
Then be annihilated if you wish for eternal annihilation.
hmm its got 24 hrs per week on there so yeh its part time i guess..
so does that mean the salary wud be less then as advertised ?![]()

Pro Rata
Latin term meaning proportionally; for a proportion. Where several debtors are each liable for the whole debt, they are said to be liable "in solidum" but where each is liable for his own share or proportion only, they are said to be bound "pro rata". An example of both phrases may be found in the liabilty of partners; each is liable "in solidum" for the debts of the partnership in relation to creditors, but each is liable only "pro rata" in relation to between themselves.

Pro rata payment
Question
I've applied for a job and the advert said the post was for 16 hours a week and the pay would be £10,000-£12,000 "pro rata". What does pro rata mean? And what does that mean I'd get paid if I get the job?
Answer
The salary quoted will be for a person working full-time in that job. Pro rata is the latin for 'proportionally' or a 'proportion of'. The stated £10,000-£12,000 is the full-time salary and you would be paid the proportion that's equal to the 16 hours of work.
How much this part-time equivalent is will depend on how many hours the company considers full time. For example, if a full-time post is considered to be 37 hours a week the wage for a part-time worker working 16 hours per week for £10,000 per year will be:
16/37 x 10000 = 4324
So, in this case, the yearly salary would be approximately £4,324 and the monthly wage (4324/12) approximately £360. This is before tax. Similarly, if the normal full time hours are 40 hours per week and the salary is £11,000 the monthly wage, before tax, for 16 hours would be approximately £366.
As you can see, you will need to find out how many hours the company considers to be full time and what the actual salary full time salary would be.
As well as the pro rata salary, you would also only be entitled to pro rata paid holiday leave. Which, in statutory terms, means the absolute minimum would be eight days paid leave per year. But, please remember, your contract may give you better than the minimum.

yeh i saw that it dont make any sense to me lol...dont know how it fits into employment that description!

Saj if the job is advertising pro-rata at £100,000-- please remember me(even though if you were paid that much the greedy taxman would come along and take a huge chunk
)
What does 'freedom' mean?Does the eagle want to swim in the sea,Restricted by the sky?Does the fish want to dance on the wind,Not enough river to explore?Yet the sky is freedom for the birdbut death for the fish,The sea is wide for the fishbut will engulf the bird.We ask for freedom but freedom to do what?We can only express our nature as it was created. The prayer mat of the earth is freedom, freedom from slavery to other than the One,Who offers an shoreless ocean of love to swim inand a horizon that extends to the next life,Yet we chose the prison and call it freedom.
ive always wondered what pro rata means......thanks for asking that question Sajid....now i know![]()

it doesn't mean half pay.
The salary that they have quoted is if you were to be on full time - which is 37.5 hours a week.
So if they are advertising 24hrs a week work for example, then you have ot work back from that amount.
Also to give you a guide, a year is usually treated as having 260 paid working days.
The salary is also quoted as gross (before tax)
a good rhyme to avoid confusion between gross and net is "net is what you get"
pro-rata means the pay is proportional to the hours you work, as opposed to being strictly results orientated.
'hope this helps

in terms of employment it's talking about the payment contract between employer and the employee. They agree to pay you for the time that you spend working.Originally Posted by sajid

Actually i just found this thread:
http://www.ummah.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18661
curiousUK
It means the annual salary is £16,223.
Pro rata is generally used in part time job adverts so if you applied for this job at, for example, 20 hours a week advertised at £16,223 p.a pro rata then you would get paid £8,111.50 as you would be working half a normal working week.
So just take the 40 hour (or sometimes 37.5 hr now) week and work out your actual part time hours as a fraction of this then multiply by the pro-rata salary to get your actual pay.
eg working 20 hours a week on a pro rata salary of £20,000
20
--- X £20,000 pro rata = £10,000 actual pay
40
