Are there any Swedish members or people from Sweden here?

    I have a few questions:

Is there any way to stay longer than 3 months in Sweden without being a citizen? I'm thinking of moving to Stockholm from London.
What are people like in Stockholm, is it a cosmopolitan place?

I'm open to PM's if you don't want to mention it here.

    Thanks to all that respond!

Stockholm is very small city compare to London. I think 1-1.5 million people.

I am from Sweden and I actually live in Stockholm. It's a nice place but it's getting so cold so don't forget to bring a jacket

I will tell you some stuff you gotta know:

    1. Sweden has a lot of refugees, especially in Stockholm.
    2. Swedes will seem pretty cold compared to other people. We don't talk to strangers unless we have to. So be prepared to not get any small talk with anyone.
    3. Swedes drink alot, so don't go alone at night. Especially friday_saturday nights.
    4. Everyone can speak english there.
    5. Our infrastructure is very good. U can take the train/bus/taxi everywhere.
    6. Don't go to the heart of Stockholm alone without a guide (the town we call "gamla stan"). You will instantly get lost there.
    7. There is an IKEA in every corner.
    8. Never enter a house with shoes. When u get in, take them off instantly.
    9. Don't get to close to people if you wanna ask something. Our personal space is like 5 meter in diameter lol. And don't get to friendly with strangers on the bus/train etc. It's awkward for us cuz we are not so social.
    10. People drink around 10-12 cups of coffee in a day. Our coffee taste so good.
    11. Swedes are not religious Christians. But they still participate in all lf the christian holydays. Why? It's a tradition so don't think they are religious if they buy alot of presents during christmas. But if you don't participate then no harm done. People respect your choices. They will never force you to do anything.

Sweden is part of EU. You can stay as long as you want there. That is if UK is also part of EU. But the houses is pretty expensive. Really expensive. It's becuse we have a sortage in it. If you want to buy a one room house in "gamla stan" which is the most expensive place, then be prepared to pay over 2million(kr) in our currency.

We have a lot of hidden rules but it's easier if you ask what you want than me writing. Or I will keep writing all day lol.

Well one thing you will certainly notice is how much space there is and is probably one of the major contribution as to why swedes dont like to talk or stand close to strangers.

London is claustrophobic compared to stockholm

    lol

It's the government turning a blind eye. Sadly. The election 2014 was a mistake for sure. They let in to much than what the country can handle. The crimes did rise those past years (because of alot of reasons, it's not all refugees fault) A lot. But it wont affect you if you stay away from shady places at night

But the police is great. We have nice police in Sweden. They do a great job

Isn't the definition of "rape" different from general definition. Even slight harassment is considered rape, which explains the spike in this type of crime.

Interesting. I know some Swedes in my class; they're nice people. They seem a bit stand offish at first.. sometimes but once I talked to them, they actually open up. I guess they're not chatty types as you mentioned in 9), perhaps?

Yes. It takes time for us to open up. But once we get to know each other a bit more, we become your lifetime friends. But I assure you that the "awkward silence" between chats will occcur alot for sure. Be prepared for the worst silence in history xD.
Just need to approach us slowly. We seem mean but we sure are not.

I always felt the way the extremists spoke about sweden was pure exaggeration of the reality but based on a little truth, its how they get popular like their grandaddy hitler

Some country passports don't need visa to enter EU, so only residence permit is needed. But @OP check both out

I never said I participate in their traditions. I said that they accept people who don't because they respect peoples opinions and lifestyles. They are not religious christians so they could care less about what we worship.

The life as a muslim is not hard at all here. We have a place to pray in in every corner. We have alot of mosques. Sorry brother but I've been living there my whole life and never faced any difficulties in my deen. How can you say something like that, before even setting a foot in here?

Sweden is a calm and quiet place. It's a great country for people who prefer a more calm enviroment than London. So don't talk badly about it. Yes they have their downside like every other country in the world but it does not affect his deen.

I would pick Sweden over UK, easily. And if he does not like Sweden then he can move back to where he came from. Nothing is impossible. But don't go around telling lies akhi. What you said is not true at all.

Re: Are there any Swedish members or people from Sweden here?

Of course you can pray there
Theres probably a masjid in mearly every country in the world

But its a country with a smaller minority of muslims than uk
Which means its more likely to be a vulnerable place for muslims
If you grow a beard wear a thobe
Or wear niqab id likely to know what would hapoen in sweden in the night

Either way any kuffar country is bad for muslims
But in specifics its better to live in uk as there are areas where its majority muslims
More halal stores in food and shopping
    More masjids
    Mre islamic schools
    More muslims

So yes its beter even if i havent been to sweden i know is better as it will be easier to practise your religion in uk compared to sweden

Also u say its a calm environment but i highly doubt a city where u say people get drunk a lot is calm in the night

Maybe just stockholm, gothenburg, malmö has lots of masjids because they are the bigger cities but the rest usually only has 1 masjid which is in the middle of absolute nowhere

also malmö has prob the highest population of muslims compared to any other city in sweden

How should one go about marrying someone in Sweden but...

...they live in a different country. I don't think my family or circle know anyone from Sweden. However I want to marry a Swedish convert. Any ideas?

    Thanks to all that respond

ok, let's pretend where I do my new Muslim and Da'wah work is in Stockholm not the UK and you just came into my office and said that... You just set a big alarm bell. Several actually.

I am going to bite and see if can help you a little, and ask a few probing questions if that's ok with you to see where your motivations for this are coming from?

So what is your own background?
Did you grow up in Sweden or just move there?
How practicing are you in the deen?
When you say Swedish convert are we talking a convert (or revert which most prefer) who happens to live in Sweden but could be any colour or are you literally thinking blonde, blue eyed Scandinavian woman at this point?

And i presume you met this lady online? I generally would be very weary about anything that my eye hasnt seen and my brain hasnt observed. People's online persona is often not real, not because they are trying to lie or hide the truth, but because we often dont need to show our otherside!

Anyway, i think you need to understand how they do their marriages and what their expectations are, do they expect you to knock on their door first to get to know them? Are her perants converts or just her? Does she expect you to take formal route?

I'll stop there, because my gut feeling is telling me 1) new username + 2) incomplete information + 3) wrong tone = ??

might be wrong, but feel it's a wanting to marry a swedish revert in general, not one in particular in mind

U still speak like u actually live there.
I have traveled across whole Sweden with a car. I even pray outside in the nature. Never ever has I been attacked or something.

People wear thobes everywhere. You see people with Niqab everywhere. I wear hijab too. My deen has never been easier to practice than in Sweden.
I said before that Sweden are proud Vikings. It's cool to go around with a beard cuz alot of the Swedes has gigantic beards.

People drink, yes. But during the night in the end of the week. They go to a bar, sit there and drink. Or buy their drinks ans go home to drink. We have rules that it's unacceptable to drink on open spaces where civil people walk in. So unless you go to a bar, you will not face any drunk person.

We have Islamic schools everywhere. And also schoold in every masjid.
We can pray in groups because we have a place to pray in in every corner of Sweden. And alot of big mosques.
We buy our Halal food from stores too, which is located everywhere in Sweden. Never faced a problem with that.

I live in a place with alot of muslims in Stockholm. We don't have alot of bars there but I can assure you that the muslims there cause more problems than in a place with less muslims. So just cause a place has more muslims does not make it calmer and better.
Sweden is peacefull place. Our nature is great. Practising the deen is not an issue.

I know my country, so stop playing professor-know-everything.

This is also wrong. People use "propably" to much while I actually come with facts. We have masjids everywhere. There is not a masjid I have never visited. And its located inside the cities where alot of people live in.
The church are located in absolute nowhere, because alot of people do not go there. Being a strong practicing christian is harder than being a muslim.

    To be honest:
I would have considered whether Sweden is the right place to go to. The right is on the rise, and on the other hand there is a lot of gang mentality among young Muslims.
