Lightbulb Food mentioned in Quran & Sunnah

    Assalamu alaykum

I am going to try & incorporate some of the food mentioned in the Quran & Sunnah into my day to day life. Not only will this have numerous health benefits but it is also a way of gaining some reward Insha Allah. What I am going to try & do, is to replace something daily, but to take it slow so that I stick with it. This week, I will replace my morning coffee with honey mixed in water (I will have my coffee after half an hour!)

So if anyone wants to join, please do! Share your ideas about small things we can do to follow the Quran & Sunnah in terms of our diet.

    Olive Oil

    Surah An Noor [24:35]
"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things."

    Surah At Tin [95:1]
"By the fig and the olive."

    Surah Abasa [80:29]
    "And olives and palm trees."

    Surah Al Mu'minoon [23:20]
"And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat."

    Surah An Nahl [16:11]
"He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought."

    Fish

    Surah An Nahl [16:14]
"And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful."

    Garlic / Onions

    Surah Al Baqarah [2:61]
"And [recall] when you said, "O Moses, we can never endure one [kind of] food. So call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from the earth its green herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions." [Moses] said, "Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go into [any] settlement and indeed, you will have what you have asked." And they were covered with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah [upon them]. That was because they [repeatedly] disbelieved in the signs of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That was because they disobeyed and were [habitually] transgressing."

    Milk

    Surah An Nahl [16:66]
"And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies - between excretion and blood - pure milk, palatable to drinkers."

    Surah Al Mu'minoon [23:21]
"And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat."

    Surah Muhammad [47:15]
"Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord, like [that of] those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?"

    Honey

    Surah An Nahl [16:69]
"Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colours, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought."

I can mention another food, but I'm not really sure , but I've seen it around. It's mentioned in Al-Quran

    Black Seed

A Prophetic Medicine as recommended 1400 years ago by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In his divine wisdom he said - "Use the Black Seed for indeed, it is a cure for all diseases except death." Saheeh al-Bukharee 7:591

I usually mix it with honey, any other ways to eat it?

As far as I know, corn is not mentioned in the Quran as corn had not yet been discovered so it's believed that the term corn may have been a mistranslation and in fact the ayah is referring to some other type of grain. Also there's a hadith that keeps appearing on facebook that says "vinegar is the best curry" which again I believe is mistranslated because vinegar is not a curry. My guess is, it's supposed to say condiment, not curry and Allah (swt) knows best.

Pumpkin is praised as a sunnah food too because it's what Jonah (as) ate when he was freed from the whale and it helped him get his strength back.

Do it! Tastes nice! I once drank black seed oil wanting the benefit & it was the most awful thing ever!

    Week 1

Whoever wants to start this with me, Insha Allah this week we will incorporate Honey in to our diet. With the weather getting colder, it's a great time to start with honey. I will be mixing honey with warm water but you can replace sugar with honey or add a dollop to your milk etc. Let's us know how you get along!

    Bananas

    Surah Al Waqiy'ah [56:29]
"And [banana] trees layered [with fruit]."

My guess is, it's supposed to say condiment, not curry and Allah (swt) knows best.

Pumpkin is praised as a sunnah food too because it's what Jonah (as) ate when he was freed from the whale and it helped him get his strength back.
    Really informative. JazakAllah khair.

Do you mind sharing the source on Yunus AS please?

Just like literally a while ago , my mother reminded me to take honey.
She's very particular and advises to take honey with plastic spoon.

Its manna, I've looked around yesterday and it seems its gum arabic? I use to buy those in powder form, then drink it after mixing with water.
But this is like rare stuff, not something so common in the market, so I'm not sure whether its a recommended product or something.
Im not sure whether this manna is the manna that is refered in the Quran or maybe something else. So its also an issue of identification.
Because it may be possible that people commercialized this sort of things. And rarely people mention this in discourses. Not like fig and olive.
If anyone can help confirm this. Till then.

Its mentioned in Quran Al Baqarah : 27
    https://quran.com/2/57

And We shaded you with clouds and sent down to you manna and quails, [saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you." And they wronged Us not - but they were [only] wronging themselves.

Subhanallah, did you take the honey? How nice of your mother to remind you to take it, may Allah reward her with goodness
