Is an Apple MacBook worth it?

    Assalamu alaykum

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who owns one. I really, really like the rose gold Apple
MacBook & I am considering purchasing it. I know it's expensive...

If anyone has an Apple Mac book how's it been for you? Worth it? I will be mainly using it for YouTube, browsing the net, eBaying, blogging

Ok I'll be honest. I only want it because of the colour. Is that really bad?

Waste of money if all you care about is the looks. There are less fortunate people who could use that money.

Once when Imam Ibn Hajar al Asqalani, a famous scholar in the past who died in 852 AH, who wrote the commentary of Sahih al Bukhar entitled ‘Fath al Bari’, was walking with his grand entourage through the town, they came upon a miserable, poor and dejected Jew.
When the Jew recognized Ibn Hajar, he called out to him, “O scholar of Islam! Is it not true that your Prophet has said that this life is a prison for the believer and Paradise for the kafir? How is it that you are living in lavish wealth being a so-called believer, and yet I live this miserable life?” Ibn Hajar responded, “What you say of the Prophet (saw) of what he has said is true. You should know that this life you see me living in, is a prison compared to what awaits for me in the Hereafter. And, you should know that what you are living is Paradise compared to what Allah has prepared for you in the akhira.”
If you're a mac fan, then you can't really go wrong. Although, personally, I'd rather get an ultrabook.

I don't live a lavish lifestyle akhi. I pay Sadaqa & give my zakat but was going to get this laptop to treat myself. Isn't that allowed? Genuine question

Also I do need a laptop and from past experience where I've used cheaper laptops they have bust (has happened twice) so id rather spend a little more on something if I know it will last

if it really is excessive spending then I won't buy it

Well if a famous scholar of islam can have a lavish lifestyle, why can't a normal muslim treat him/herself every now and again?

Also, I know what you mean. I have found that cheap stuff actually ends up costing more in the long run, and things which are a bit more pricey (higher build quality) usually last longer, therefore end up costing less in the long run.

I don't know if this is true with macs, but everyone I know who has a mac, has not regretted buying a mac. As long as you understand, that a mac uses a different operating system, not windows, so a lot of windows programs will not work on mac, you will have to get the mac equivalent software. Although you can buy Microsoft Word for mac.

I will mainly be using it for the Internet so I should be okay without the Windows Insha Allah but if I can purchase it that's great. I did contemplate getting an Apple iMac but I think the MacBook would be better for me. It's currently on offer in currys I wonder if at xmas it will go down by another 100 quid....

What are the specs of the macbook you're planning/hoping to get?

If it has an M or a Dual Core processor, I'd personally stay away from them.

Having said that, I'd still get an ultrabook.

i have a macbook air, currently. Didn't pay for this one. got it from my sister. But my previous one was just as expensive. But i can easily spend around 10 hours a day on it. Thats everything from coding, research and entertainment. So i need something good that lasts.
What i'm trying to say is, think about how much time and how you intend to use it. If you're only going to be using it a few hours a day on tasks that all laptops can do. Then there is no need for it.

But of course you're allowed to treat yourself, but i would advise you on doing it on something you'll make good use of.

It's probably fine for your intended use, but for the same price, you could get a much more powerful ultrabook, which looks and feels just as good if not better than a mac.

M processors are not very powerful.

I'm fairly sure for the same price, you could get an i5 processor in an ultrabook

But I'm just saying what I would do personally. However, mac fans would completely disagree with me...

I can probably spend around 10 hours online too. most laptops can do what I intend to use the MacBook for (blogging, YouTube, research) but I don't want to have to replace my laptop in a few years because it bust. That's what happened to my Sony viao and a dell one (I didn't purchase either)

An Intel Core M platform powers this machine, paired with 8 GB of RAM and various amounts of fast SSD storage. The Core M hardware is primarily designed to be efficient, not necessarily fast. That’s why the MacBook is a better option for those of you who don’t ask much from their laptops and mostly use them for browsing in a couple of tabs, watching movies, replying to emails, listening to music, and some light editing/writing.
So for your intended use, it will work perfectly well, and everything will most likely fly because of the SSD.

Go for it then. As the above user mentioned, they are a expensive to repair.

Loved my Dell XPS, but unfortunately dell has a rep for amazing products that last just past the warranty date.

How about samsung in terms of last-ability?

For the same price as the macbook but it has a more powerful i5 processor, and it looks absolutely beautiful in a full metal body:

Don't have enough experience with samsung product to be able to comment. And only ever saw one person with a samsung laptop. Saw nothing special about it, and he loved it for the touch screen(not something i'm a big fan of).

The next laptop i'll get insha allah probably be an xps 13(the newer versions). It's brilliant but of course i'll get an extended warranty.

No stick to what you wanted. I defo wouldn't get a dell xps for blogging. Reason i want it, is that i want to be able to run many softwares such as Hypsys, Stata and Matlab whilst still playing counter-strike and still have 6 tabs open. And avoid much performance loss.
You're never going to put it under that much strain.
Stick to what you want. If you want clarity and vision- Look at resolution
    -Audio-Speakers attached
    -Performance- Processor
-If you want to download loads of shit, storage is also important.

Re: Is an Apple MacBook worth it?

There are different versions of the Apple MacBook, you have the 12-inch MacBook, the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air.

First of all, in my eyes there's absolutely no reason to buy the 12-inch MacBook since the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2017 is exactly the same price, but the MacBook Pro has more advantages. The advantages the 12-inch MacBook has over the 13-inch MacBook Pro is that it's lighter, it's smaller, it lasts a bit longer on a single charge, and that's it. The 13-inch MacBook Pro 2017 is more powerful, has more ports, higher resolution which is good for content viewing and reading. So, if you're thinking about the 12-inch MacBook or the MacBook Pro, you should get the MacBook Pro. The 12-inch MacBook and the 13-inch MacBook both start at €1500, I believe, so it's a bit expensive. Lastly, you have the 13-inch MacBook Air. You could buy this, simply because it's the cheapest at around €1000, but it has huge ugly bezels, which I don't like. Advantages of the Air is that it has regular USB ports compared to the 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro that both have USB-C ports, and a full 14 hours of battery life on a single charge. The MagSafe charger is an added bonus.

My final advice on the MacBooks is that if you're going to get an Apple MacBook, you might as well go all out and buy yourself the MacBook Pro, simply because it justifies its price better than the other MacBooks. However, because you're only going to watch videos and browse the internet, I don't see a point in getting a MacBook at all, or you must really hate Windows operating systems. You can get a full HD Windows laptop nowadays that can do the things you want for around €500. You can fork out some more money for a better Windows laptop.

    TL;DR:

    - If you really want an Apple laptop, get a 13-inch MacBook Pro since it justifies its price tag (€1500) the best compared to the other MacBooks.
    - If you don't care about getting an Apple laptop, get a full HD Windows laptop for under €500 or higher if you want a better one. Take a look at trusted brands like ASUS, Lenovo, Samsung, HP or even Acer.

Edit: I've seen some posts here recommend Windows laptops that are around €1000 or more, don't buy these, unless they are Dell XPS, HP Spectre x360 or Windows Surface.

Thanks. I will have a look at the MacBook Pro. For me it's more about getting a laptop that will last long that's why I'd rather spend a little extra on a laptop and have it for years rather than having to replace it every few years.

If anyone has an Apple Mac book how's it been for you? Worth it? I will be mainly using it for YouTube, browsing the net, eBaying, blogging

Ok I'll be honest. I only want it because of the colour. Is that really bad?
you're going to be using it for simple tasks then make sure you get the lower spec model don't go cray cray, personally im a windows guy but if you're used to a mac then it shouldn't be a issue. get it its a laptop that ages well and is slick, there is also the huawei mate book which is great (personal experience)

Thanks. I think I'll go for the 256GB one. I will keep my eyes peeled though & be patient because I'm sure on Black Friday it will go down or they'll be some good deals. It's tempting to purchase it now with the £300 off in currys but I'll wait

to be very honest with you sis .... laptops are best bought 2nd hand reason being is they lose their value very quickly and every other day there's new and better laptops being released ... might aswell just buy a good condition used laptop .... does you the same thing for less.

Hm I'm just a bit wary of buying a used laptop as I feel more comfortable with buying one with at least a years guarantee. You're right about loosing its value & new ones being released but I think I'd just prefer a new one. I hope that doesn't sound arrogant or snobby authobillah but it's just my preference.

I'm definitely going to wait to buy it though Insha Allah because right now it would be an impulse buy but if in a few months I still 'want' it then I'll go ahead

In the meanwhile I think I'll stop looking at Apple MacBook Unboxing videos on YouTube

depends what you are using them for. And regarding security issues/preferences as compared between Apple and non-apple.
Also the customer service if you ever have problems with those laptops. Considerations.
    Anyways, enjoy your new laptop

I wonder if any other brands will come out with the rose gold colour, or similar later on
