    pros for sheffield:
    job opportunities
    diversity in muslim populations
    lots of masjids
    halal food can be found
very good education in gov schools.

    cons for sheffield:
    can get expensive
not the most social city for muslims
not much in terms of islamic events
might be travelling a mile or so for a halal butcher or food
    more fitna
less safe for practising and covering muslims women
    no islamic schools

    pro bradford:
    cheap to live in
butchers and shops very close by
    lots of halal shops
lots of muslims who are practising and covered
plenty of big ulemah and masjids (yes you have ulemah of haqq too)
    very social city for muslims
practising men and women are respected by the locals so it's a safe environment and also safe for kids
private islamic schools for girls and boys both better than gov schools

    cons for bradford:
    less diversity in muslims
    gets bad reports in media
less job opportunities (but you have leeds next door which is great)
schools aren't very good in terms of education (gov schools)

just about me i've lived in both cities and this is my experience i know leeds, oldham and huddersfield too

    hope this helps

Jazak Allaho khair brother. Great post!.

Re: Best place in UK for muslims?

    Walaykum salam,

I think the best place for Muslims to live in the UK is not a one size fits all thing. For example, I live in a very diverse neighbourhood so there's a mix of English, Pakistani, Italian, Somali and other communities here and I like it that way even though there aren't any Islamic schools here (I don't have kids anyway). Someone else might not like it if they're looking for a town with an Islamic school, or might prefer a neighbourhood with more people of his or her ethnic origin, especially if that person doesn't speak much English. There's another borough about 20 mins drive away from this town which is also quite diverse and many Muslims live there too quite happily (my nieces live there), but it's a very different community to over here (here more of the Muslims are of working class Pakistani origin and there they are more Gujarati and I guess there are more Asian non Muslims over there as well as more educated Pakistanis) so the culture and environment is quite different, but both places are good in different ways.

Bear in mind different neighbourhoods within the same town can vary a huge amount. My neighbourhood is quite good and considered safe for Muslims (even though my local primary school was quite racist when I was little), but if you drive just 3 miles away to the other side of town, it can get quite hostile. In fact there's one road that's quite long and if you live on one end of that road (that's close to the town centre), it's fairly safe and people don't give you any trouble but if you live at the other end of that road in the northern part of town, it's a very different story. Likewise, some people say "London", but Eltham is in London and has a racist reputation, I think South London isn't as nice as North and West London is very different from the East End. Btw the London accent isn't "posh", it's more like Cockney (like East Enders).

If you want me to name a place that I think would be good for Muslims to live, then I'd probably say Manchester, even though I haven't lived there (my brother used to live there and loved it). I think Sheffield is quite good even though when I visited there, I thought it was a bit of a concrete jungle but people seem generally approachable. I'm sure there are plenty of other places too such as there are a number of neighbourhoods in London that are good (I personally like Bayswater although it is very expensive).
