In different countries, women wear their coverings differently. Some wear almost a turban style hair covering and in some countries black is not seen at all in favour of many colours. Does acceptable hijab differ from country to country or should it roughly be the same no matter what climate or traditions they have?

    Re: LIVE Q&A With Abu Mus'ab - Thursday 9th February 2017 8:30PM UK TIME

Following on from the question I asked before - Do you believe there is vanity in excessive penance? You rightly separated the word penance into four possible meanings and answered each...

Confessing your sins to a priest - impermissible
Inflicting pain on yourself - impermissible
Doing a good deed to counter a bad deed - encouraged(?)
Synonym for repentance - The Prophet used to repent more than 100 times a day.

My question is...for the second meaning of inflicting pain upon yourself (not physical such as self flagellation) but more a self-neglect in terms of happiness and self-denial in terms of food, clothes, friend, relaxation etc.... This is impermissible? To treat yourself poorly and deny yourself because you are in a state of penance over your past sin?

Can I also clarify an answer you gave to me about my little sister (legally adopted) who also happens to be my niece... That I can still call her my 'sister', just as I would call any non-blood female in Islam my 'sister'. Did I understand you correctly? My apologies if I did not.

So my further question, just to really properly clarify my understanding is, this younger sister is an active Christian, along with the rest of the females in my family, so I can't refer to her as my 'sister' like I do other 'sisters' - or can I still?

Are we allowed to make the du'a of Nabi Sulayman (A.S.)?

"My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower." [38:35]

( ^ I posted that in the "quick question" thread, and get no answer. It's not really important. I'm just curious.)

If the Kaaba didn't exist, would people still go to that spot? Would they still walk in a circle? I have read that no one worships the Kaaba but I don't understand it fully.

When did the status of talibul ilm the people in the middle first appear which is heavily used by the ustadhs of dawah man putting themselves in a position where they can give fatwa on certain things

In the past it was example the four imams then under them was their students such as imam Abu yusuf and imam abu muhammad but they themselves were scholars and then the layman there was never any mention of a talibul ilm under any madhab

Obviously during that time Abdullah ibn mubarak was studying but he too would become a scholar and didn't give fatwa until he became a scholar unlike the case of talibul ilm today

Can a kaafir cause evil eye to a Muslim (by mistake, I mean)? For example if a kaafir grandma of a Muslim woman often says how beautiful her hair is etc. should she keep her hair in a bun or something like that so it's more "hidden"? The grandma is just happy and doesn't mean anything bad but because she is a kaafir she doesn't say "Allaahumma baarik laki" etc. So can this cause evil eye?

Narrated AbuBarzah al-Aslami:The Prophet () said: O community of people, who believed by their tongue, and belief did not enter their hearts, do not back-bite Muslims, and do not search for their faults, for if anyone searches for their faults, Allah will search for his fault, and if Allah searches for the fault of anyone, He disgraces him in his house.
(Sunan of Abu Dawood, Number 2283)

What does this "searching for faults" actually mean?

    Re: LIVE Q&A With Abu Mus'ab - Thursday 9th February 2017 8:30PM UK TIME

If a Muslim girl is concidering marrying a Muslim brother is it allowed for he to meet this potential in a public place? Her father is abroad at the moment and has given permission. Is it halal and from Islam that a girl meets a potenial before and then takes him to meet her father? I've always thought a potential should always contact girl's wali and meet him and meet the girl only when her wali is present.
    Can you please clarify this?

1 it is said if you have 2 daughters they will be a protection from fire, the martyr can pick from his family members to enter jannah and the hafiz can pick 10 to intercede, is there any other action which can lead to similar reward such as if you become scholar or raise a good son etc

2 rasulullah saw will intercede for us in judgment day will his intercession be only for his ummah or will he also intercede for the followers/ummah of the other prophets as

A da'ii said: "If you don't make dawah you shall not enter Jannah."
    Is this true?
And: How can someone who has mental health problems, such as anxiety disorder/social anxiety, make dawah? Those disorders make it sometimes difficult for them because they feel insecure etc. when they speak to people and the person is worried they are not able to make dawah properly and they feel guilty.
What advice would you give them?

Sheikh, the seventy thousand people who are to go straight to Jannah, is it true that is because they have done ruqya (sp) on themselves and they did not ask someone else to read on them.

It is okay that others can read on you but you should not ask them to do so?

    Intention is in the heart.
Before starting wudu is it okay to think in one's head "Now I'm going to do wudu", and before starting for example isha prayer "Now I'm going to pray isha"? Or should a person just start and not specifically think these intentions in their head?

    Assalamualikum Warahmatullahi wa barakatu Sheikh,

Sheikh I'm pretty sure that colouring hair black is not permitted and that using Mehendi is allowed, which makes the hair go sort of orangy,

is this the only Colour permissible? and what about Black Mehendi, is that allowed or not?

    a) Is it haram for a Muslim (woman) to live on benefits in a kafir country? Especially if she (or he) cannot find a job that is halal?

    b) There are sisters who are willing to neglect prayer, I mean they pray sitting or they pray outiside prayer times etc., because in their workplaces they cannot pray properly. Is this allowed? They also seem to think it's better to work in a place like this than live on benefits. Many sisters always say it's not islamic/it's haram to live on benefits but they see no problem working in a job that is not completely halal or where they can't even pray properly.
What do you say about this?

If a person calls Allaah by His names when making du'a, should he say, for example "Ya Allaah, Ar-Razzaaq, Al-Fattaah, (give me this job if this is good for me etc.) or can he also say
"Ya Allaah, ya Razzaaq, ya Fattaah, (give me this..)" Is there a difference?

Narrated Samura (RA) : Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said, Two persons came to me at night (in dream)(and took me along with them). We passed by a tall man who was so tall that I was not able to see his head and that person was Ibrahim (Abraham) (PBUH)

does this hadith show that people of ibrahim as time were still taller then our time
