    Favorite Surahs

I've been reading the Quran ever since reverting, but wondered if anyone had a favorite surah that they'd like to point out to me?

all of them, of course, are perfect
but I love sura ash-sharh (sura 94) especially cos of the ayah which I've got under my avatar (inna ma3l usri yusraa)

    Alam nashrah laka sadrak
    Wawada3na 3anka wizrak
    Allathee anqada THahrak
    Warafa3na laka dhikrak
    Fainna ma3a al3usri yusra
    Inna ma3a al3usri yusra

    Fa idha faraghta fansab
    Waila rabbika farghab

94:1 Have We not expanded thee thy breast?
94:2 And removed from thee thy burden
94:3 The which did gall thy back?
94:4 And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?
94:5 So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief:
94:6 Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.
94:7 Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,
94:8 And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention
    (Yusuf Ali translation)

all insha allah, but I like one which is like and we have made u into nations and tribes so that u may know each other, not that you may despise each other, and verily the most honoured of you is one whom is best in conduct, something like that.
Out of interest, all those Quran search websites, what is it that muslims would want more in it. I looked up and most dont give arabic along with it,just english if u search for something, and also what if recitation was available?I am thinking of making one,,an online,or maybe standalone Quran search application, but was thinking since there are soo many, what is there missing,or something that would be more helpfull...I would appreciate ideas and thoughts.

i use islamicity.... that gives you the arabic, the english yusuf ali translation, and the transliteration and you can do phonetic arabic search, english search, topic search etc, so when I wanna use online Qur'an search, thats where I go its pretty good

I dunno... I reckon Islamicity already got the qur'an search pretty much sorted
maybe you could do a hadith search? I know there are some around, but I haven't found one thats actually easy to use... like when you can remember a hadith, and you search to find the actual correct words and source, the hadith databases I've found online never really seem to help

My favorite Surah Is aslo Yas'een

    Attributes of Surah Yas'een

Prophet Mohamed ~alaihi-salatu~wasalam thus spoke attributes & Virtues of surah Yas'een

Surah Yas'een is aptly known as the soul of the holy Quraan. A person reciting surah Yas'een will be rewarded with the benefit of reading the Quraan Karim Ten Times

    (Tirmizi Sharif)

Recite Surah Ya'seen regurlary in the morning and your daily needs will be fulfilled

    (Darmi Tarbani)

Drink water mixed with the word Yas'een written 5 times as it will sharpen your memory

If you listen to the recitation of Surah Yas'een with concentration, You will be rewarded with Zakat of 100 Gold coins

If someone has recited Surah Yas'een and he/she dies thereafter, 30,000 angels will attend last rites of the dead they will accompany his/her Janaza to Kabristan, and attend his/her burial, also pray to Allah SWT For his deliverance and will plead on his behalf. His Kabr will be made spacious and comfortable and the ~Noor~ will rise from his Kabr to the heavens. When he crosses "pull Sara't" he will easily pass and the balance sheet of the sins of his life time will be pardoned.

It is reported in yet another Hadith that "Whoever reads it in hunger, will be satisfied; Whoever reads it while having lost his way; will find his way; Whoever reads it on losing an animal, will find the same. And when one reads it apprehending that his food will run short, that food will become sufficient; and if one reads it besides a person who is in the agonies of death, his agonies will be made easy for him; and if anyone reads it on a woman experiencing difficulty in child-birth, her delivery will become easy"

According to another Hadith, Allah ta'ala recited Surah Yas'een and Surah Taba one thousand years before the HE Created the Heavens and the Earth, and on hearing this the angels said: " Blessing is for that Ummah unto whom the Quraan will be sent down, blessing is for the hearts which will hear ( memorise it) and Blessing is for the tongues which will recite it".

There are alot more Virtues & Attributes of the beautiful Surah Yas'een, but i'll leave it for now my fingers are getting sore

    Assalamu Alaykum............

    Well........I Love em all!!.......they soo "mashaaAllah".......BUT i got something that u all should..SHOULD try......

Try listening to Ahmad Al-Ajamy recite surah maryam .... OH MAN......its like reallly beautiful!!!.. MashaaAllah.... am telling u.. if u try listening to this shaykh recite and read the translations at the same time.. U will notice that he recites it in a story form..... { like for example, he does a "lil" pause b/w the stories that Allah (Subhana Wa Ta3la) has mentioned in Suratul Maryam... like for example when he finishes reciting the story of Zakariah.. he does this pause and then continues reciting the story of Maryam.... and etc}... its like totally cool man!!

Here u can listen to suratul Maryam with the recitor ( Al-Ajamy) whom i was talkin about above ===> http://quran.islamway.com/agmy/019.ram

And U can follow along with the recitation with the translations =====>
    http://www.islamicity.com/mosque/QURAN/19.htm

And one more thing...... have fun man!!...its worth it!! ...inshaaAllah!

    Interesting.

My favourite Surahs are: Surah Yaseen, and Surah al-Mursalaat (the Dispachers).

The first gives me infinite inspiration while the latter gives a love and sense of awe for the Day of Resurrection.

Surah Yaseen and Al-Rahman are two favourites of mine (I named my son Yaseen after reading it every night before he was born)

Also - I read this in our assembly this morning

    Surah al-Kahf (109 - 110)

"Say (Oh Muhammad) 'If the ocean were ink to write the praises of my Lord, sooner would the ocean be exhausted than would the praises of my Lord, even if we added another ocean like it, for its aid.' Say (Oh Muhammad) 'I am only a man like yourselves, but it has been revealed to me, that your God is one God so whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and, admit no one as partner in the worship of his Lord.'

    Hassan

Just realised how Magnificent Surat al nisae is surat -the women- not much about whats being said about women ... rather because in this particular sura Allah talks about the Muslims who do not intend to wage Jihad and find excuses... the cowards...

Jazakallah for all of you sharing your choices with me.

I now have a favorite too:

    By the Glorious Morning Light,

And by the Night when it is still,-

Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.

And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.

Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?

And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.

And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.

Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,

    Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard);

But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!

my favourite surah would have to yusuf!! it always brings tears into my eyes.

Blaster, ya akhi perhaps your comment was a joke but we no longer use the word convert-it is revert for surely everyone is born Muslim. Furthermore, If you don't like this thread then do not post in it, very simple really. Just beause one says he/she finds a certain surah moving does not discredit the rest of the qur'an. we are all different so this is just a chance for us to share our favourite surahs. Xaxerian do not let brother Blaster enrage you,for you can easily say something bad and hurtful though it probably was not intended. Ramadan is here my brothers and sisters do not let the shaytan over power you.

SubhanAllah I too love this one. I think it was the 2nd revelation?
O you passionately in love with the meaning of Our beauty,
Our dowry is expensive for the one who proposes to Us:
An emaciated body and spirit full of care and eyes which do not taste sleep,
And a heart which does not contain other than Us.
If you want to pay the price,
Then be annihilated if you wish for eternal annihilation.

Surah Al- Duha is very beautiful and the words are very touching

Surah Yahseen, Surah Mulk, Surah Fatiha and Surah Ikhlas are also beautiful

Allah and His angels call down blessings on the Prophet . O you who believe! call down blessings on him and ask for complete peace and safety for him (33:56)

It so true what you've just said about his style.. I noticed that as well, not so long ago.. masha'Allah he is truly a great shyakh.

I love them all MASHALLAH equally. But if I had to pick, it would be Surah Yaseen and Ar Rahman. And to listen to: Surah Maryam
