a common habit among Muslims, to say wallahi

    ,

It has become a common habit among Muslims, to say wallahi at least once in every sentence they utter. Through experience I know it's more rife among some nationalities/communities than others.
Swearing by Allah is a very serious matter. Doing over little thing show, how much you think of your Lord Most High.

"The best of people are those of my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them, after which there will come a people whose testimonies will precede their oaths and whose oaths will precede their testimonies."
    (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

This Hadith discourages frequent swearing. People rush hastily into swearing oaths and bearing witness before they are requested to do so, as if these matters are of little moment. This reduces respect for the name of Allah

And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer
    [Al Qalam, ch 68:10]

And do not obey every Hallaf (one who swears much) Mahin (liar or worthless person).) This is because the liar, due to his weakness and his disgracefulness, only seeks protection in his false oaths which he boldly swears to while using Allah's Names, and he uses them (false oaths) all the time and out of place (i.e., unnecessarily). Ibn `Abbas said, "Al-Mahin means the liar.''
    Tafsir Ibn Kathir

    The Messenger said:
'Three people Allah will not talk to them, nor will He purify them, and they shall receive a painful torment.'

In this Hadith the Prophet, enumerated among those three people.
A man who made Allah as his commodity. That is, buying nothing except by swearing by Allah, and selling nothing but by swearing by Allah. [At Tabarani]

So if we can't swear by Allah when doing trade, what makes us think we can do it for small things, like say "wallahi I drank coffee today", "wallahi my phone doesn't work" and all other nonsensical oaths.

So let's stop this foolishness, and stop belittling the worth of our Creator ,Allah , lest we be called to account for it on the Day of Judgement

    Re: Wallahi

this is a good reminder though.

I remember I was listening to a sheikh (think it was musa cerantonio not sure though)
he was telling the story of a man who was wronged and refused to swear by Allah to get his rights back in court.

after hearing that story you wouldn't say wallahi again
it had a huge impact on me

I never say it too. But apparently the immigrant kids use it so much that the native nonmuslim kids are using it too. Though they probably dont know what it means so they use it randomly and in horrid sentences.

You are not here just to fill space or to be a background character in someone else's movie. Consider this: nothing would be the same if you did not exist. Every place you have ever been and everyone you have ever spoken to would be different without you. We are all connected, and we are all affected by the decisions and even the existence of those around us.

Oh do be quiet and grow a backbone, apologize for what, as if all Somalis are one person. There are millions of Somalis and what some strangers does has no bearing on me or anyone else.

    Correct
And you Asians are always saying Allahi Kazim ( with Hindi accent), so I don't understand the condemnation of Somalis and Arabs.

This is so true its gotten to.the point where they dont even mean 'by allah' they use it like how we would use 'well.in the beginning of a sentence. So if somebody asks what dis you do today or something, they go 'wallahi ' as in 'well' and then go on. I was in shock when I first saw this.

    Re: Wallahi

Yes this is one of by pet gripes.

My children go to an Arabic school and they were beginning to pick it up. So I sat them down and gave them a SERIOUS talk on it - fire and brimstone and all. Do not say Wallahi unless you are in court and the matter is of UTMOST gravity and importance and even then if you are 100% sure.

It is SUCH a heavy issue. Such a serious sin if there is the slightest falsehood in what you are saying whether by intention or mistake. And it is NOT respectful to the high Status of Allah.

I even go so far as tell my children not to make even promises at all. Just say "I will try my best inshallah"..
