    AL-BURDA:
    THE PROPHET'S MANTLE

    Composed by:
    IMAM AL-BUSIRI
    Rahmatullahi 'Alaih

An Appreciation by Siddiq Osman Noormuhammad

The Burda, or the Prophet's Mantle is a qasida (hymn) composed by the great Sufi Shaykh Imam Sharafuddin Muhammad Al-Busiri Rahmatullahi 'Alaih who was born in Misr (Egypt) in 608 A.H. (1212 C.E) and died in 695 A.H. (1296 C.E). He was a disciple of Imam Abu'l 'Abbas al-Mursi Rahmatullahi 'Alaih who was a Khalifa of Imam Abu'l Hasan ash-Shazili Rahmatullahi 'Alaih.

He composed the Burda while suffering from a stroke which had paralysed half of his body. After praying to Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala to heal him, he fell asleep and in his dream recited this qasida to the Holy Prophet Sayyidina wa Mawlana Hadhrat Muhammad Mustafa Sallallahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam who touched the paralysed part of his body and threw his mantle (Burda) over him. On arising, he was miraculously cured, the news of which spread far and wide. Hence the qasida came to be called Qasida tu'l Burda and received veneration among all Muslims as a qasida especially approved by the beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam. Its verses are often learned by heart and inscribed on the walls of public buildings. It is congregationally recited in the majalis (spiritual gatherings) of the Zaakireen (those who remember Allah Ta'ala) all over the world. It cures diseases as well as purifies hearts if recited with love and devotion.

More than 90 commentaries have been written on this qasida and it has been translated in Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Berber, Punjabi, English, French and German, among other languages.

The Burda is in 10 parts and has 160 verses all of which end in the Arabic letter Meem, hence it is a "Meemiyya". The 10 parts of the Burda are about

Love for Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam
A warning against the desires of the nafs
Praise of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam
    Events occuring on his birth
    His miracles
    Praise of the Glorious Qur'an
The "Isra" and "Mi'raj" of the noble Prophet Sallallahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam
    His battles
Repentence, asking forgiveness of Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala and seeking intercession of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam
Supplication to Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala
Reproduced here are verses 34 to 42 from Part 3 in praise of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him. The translation is by Thoraya Mahdi Allam.

    PRAISING THE HOLY PROPHET

    Blessings and Salutations
    of Allah be upon him

Muhammad, leader of the two worlds
and of Man and the jinn,
Leader also of the Arabs and
    non Arabs and their kin.
    Our Prophet, Commander of right,
    prohibits evil's way,
Yet no one's speech more gentle could be
    than his nay or yea.
Beloved by Allah is he upon
    whose pleading we depend
From terrors of the Day of Judgement,
    which on us descend.
    He summoned people unto Allah,
    they to him did adhere,
And clung fast to the rope that none
    could ever rent or tear.
    In morals and features
    he, all prophets did exceed,
    None could approach his knowledge,
    or his bounty e'er precede.
    And thus from Allah's Apostle
    they acquired and did gain,
A handful of the vast sea
or a sip of gen'rous rain.
So other prophets in their rightful place
    before him stand,
    Regarding knowledge and the wisdom
    that they understand.
He perfect is in traits concealed,
    and features bright and clear,
    And Man's Creator chose him
as His most beloved and dear.
Too far above all men is he
    to have a partner who
    Has equal qualities, because
    the essence of virtue
That in him lies is indivisible,
    and wholly true

Once again the birth of the Glorious Prophet of Islam, Muhammad ibn Abdullah(S) is upon us, on this occasion, it is useful for all people, Muslims and non-Muslims to ponder upon the life of the Prophet(S), and to attempt to learn from what he taught, for without a doubt, Allah sent Muhammad(S) as a Mercy for Humanity, and not just for the Muslims.

From the life of the Prophet Muhammad(S), we can learn the sublime lessons of Islamic Ethics, Manners, Moral Traits and we can see the best example for humanity to emulate on it's quest for Perfection.

On this occasion, the Muslims must attempt to learn and put into practice a very important message, that was expounded by the Prophet Muhammad(Saww), and refreshed by the late Leader of the Muslim Ummah, Imam al-Khumayni(ra). That is the message of Unity. In Quran, Allah, the Mighty, the Wise clearly states:

And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided.

    (Quran, Surah Aal-i-Imraan, Verse 103)

Allah is clearly telling the Muslims to rise above sectarian, nationalistic and racial divisions that plague the Muslim Ummah, and lead it towards it's own self destruction. The reason why these divisions are dangerous, is expounded in the Quran, in the story of Satan, and how he was cast from Heaven and how he became amongst those who are arrogant and sectarian. Once again in Quran, Allah says:

And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam; they made obeisance, but Iblis (did it not). He said: Shall I make obeisance to him whom Thou hast created of dust?

    (Quran, Surah al-Israa, Verse 61)

We can see clearly that Iblis (who later became known as Satan) was arrogant and also the pioneer of racism and division, where as Allah, has told us our situation, and how we as Humanity should be:

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).

    (Quran, Surah al-Hujuraat, Verse 13)

Allah has clearly stated that humanity has been created from a single male and a single female, and that we have been made into various nations and tribes, however the most important thing, is that these nations and tribes should not be guages for what a person is like, for verily the only guage is that of righteousness and love of Allah.

To make divisions between Muslims, is to follow the line of Satan, and to consider those different to you as inferior as Satan did with Adam, and Allah has clearly warned humanity against following the line of Satan:

Did I not charge you, O children of Adam ! that you should not serve the Shaitan? Surely he is your open enemy,
And that you should serve Me; this is the right way.
And certainly he led astray numerous people from among you. What! could you not then understand?

    (Quran, Surah Yaseen, Verses 60-62)

We, as humanity, must learn to respect the divine commandments, however, it should not be at the cost of Justice, and what is being suggested is not a simple and flowery - "we love everyone" - kind of attitude, since this is also an incorrect manner to conduct onesself.

The core for humanity and Muslims in particular, is to follow the middle way, the way between two extremes, and to establish Justice and Truth.

Finally, in Quran, in Surah al-Asr, Allah clearly states the criteria for success as follows:

By (the Token of) Time (through the ages),

    Verily Humanity is in loss,

Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy."

    (Quran, Surah al-Asr, Verses 1-3)

It is extremely important for Muslims to understand this message of Unity and Truth, that Islam has given, for without a doubt, it is with the Unity of Humanity against those who seek to drag humanity to the level of the Animals, and against those who seek to oppress and destroy the human condition, that humanity will arise revived and with new found strength, that it may establish Justice and Equity upon this temporal existance.

Abdullah Ibn Abbas Radiallahu anhu reports that Rasulullah said,

Whoever recites the following Durood once, Allah will instruct the angels to keep writing good
deeds for him for a thousand days.

(Jazallahu annaa muhammadan ma huwa ahluhu)

Translation: May Allah reward Muhammad, on our behalf, as much as he deserves.

Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu reports that the Holy Prophet said,

Whoever recites the following Durood eighty times immediately after Asr Salaat on Friday,
before standing up from his place, Allah will forgive eighty years of sins and grant him the
reward equivalent to eighty years of worship.

(Allahumma salli alaa muhammadinin nabiyyil ummiyyi wa-ala aalihi wasallim tasleema)

Post Darood Sharifs and Salutation to the Prophet (SAW)

FORTY HADITHS OF THE PROPHET () ON THE DIVINE
EXCELLENCE OF RECITING DUROOD SHARIF AND SALUTATION
(SALAAM) ON TO THE PROPHET ()

Allah's () Grand Order (as contained in the Holy Quran) being:-

Undoubtedly Allah () and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet () - The communicator of unseen news. O' you who believe! send upon Him () Blessings and salute Him () fully well in ample quantity.
    (Kanzul-Iman) (Part 22, Chapter 33, Section 7, Verse 56)

FORTY GRAND ORDERS OF THE MADNI SOVEREIGN ()

    (1) On the Day of Judgement the nearest person to me, from amongst the
people, would be the one who would have recited DUROOD SHARIF the
most in this (mortal) world. (TIRMAZI, KANZUL-UMMAL)
    (2) The one who recites DUROOD SHARIF once Allah () sends ten blessings
upon him, eradicates ten of his sins and inproves ten of his grades.
    (MISHQUAT)
    (3) You decorate your meetings by DUROOD SHARIF on me because your
DUROOD SHARIF would (turn out to) be the Divine Light for yourself on
the "Day of Judgement". (JAMEH SAGHIR)
    (4) The one used-to recite DUROOD SHARIF would be bestowed with Divinely
Shining light at the "Paradise Pathway" (extremely narrow bridge
providing the only approach to Paradise), and the one bestowed with
Divinely Shining light (on the Paradise pathway) would not be from
amongst the ones destined to be thrown in fire (Hell).
    (DILAYAL-UL-KHAIRAT)
    (5) Undoubtedly on the "Day of Judgement" the individual able to find himself
free speedily from the horrors and the valleys too difficult to pass would
be the one who would have recited DUROOD SHARIF in exceedingly large
    number. (SHAFA-SHARIF)
    (6) On the "Day of Judgement" some groups of people shall come to me at
my Paradise Reservoir, (HOWDAY KAWSER) whom I would be knowing by
means of their having recited DUROOD SHARIF in exceedingly large
    number. (KASHFUL-GHUMMA)
    (7) The one who recites DUROOD SHARIF once Allah () rewards ten of His
blessings upon him and the one who recites DUROOD SHARIF ten times
Allah () bestows one hundred blessings upon him and the one who recites
DUROOD SHARIF one hundred times, Allah () gets written down in
between his two eyes "This Being is (freed) of Hypocrisy and fire of Hell"
and would keep that Being on the Day of Judgement with Martyrs i.e.
those who happen to have met their end fighting the disbelievers in war
in the way of Allah (). (ATTARGHIB-WATTARHIB)
    (8) The one who is used-to recite DUROOD SHARIF one thousand times
daily, he would not meet his end (i.e. die) until he is made to see his
    home in Paradise. (ATTARGHIB-WATTARHIB)
    (9) The one who recites DUROOD SHARIF ten times, Allah () rewards one
hundred Divine Blessings upon him, and the one who recites DUROOD
SHARIF one hundred times, Allah () bestows one thousand Divine
Blessings descended upon him, and the one who recites DUROOD SHARIF
with passionate love even more than that, I would be his advocate and
witness (in his being a man of true belief and a virtuous being) on
    the "Day of Judgement". (ALQOUL-UL-BADIH)
    (10) When an individual recites DUROOD SHARIF once, Allah () rewards ten
Blessings upon him. Now it is upto an individual's own wish whether he
recites DUROOD SHARIF more or less (in number).
    (ALQOUL-UL-BADIH)
    (11) The one who recites DUROOD SHARIF once, Allah () rewards ten
goodnesses written down in the Divine record of his deeds, forgives ten
of his sins and upgrades him by ten grades and (all) this is equivalent
(in compensation) to freeing ten slaves. (ATTARGHIB-WATTARHIB)
    (12) As long as an individual keeps reciting DUROOD SHARIF, Allah () Angels
keep reciting DUROOD SHARIF on-to him. Now it is your own (sweet) will
whether you recite DUROOD SHARIF less or more in number.
    (ALQOUL-UL-BADIH)
    (13) The one who would recite DUROOD SHARIF I would be his advocate on
    the "Day of Judgement". (ALQUOL-UL-BADIH)
    (14) An individual who, because of his love for me and inclination towards
me, recites DUROOD SHARIF three times (each) every day and three
times (each) every night it becomes necessary on Allah (A) to forgive
that individual sins of that day and that night.
    (ATTARGHIB-WATTARHIB)
    (15) The one who likes (desires) that at the time of his being presented to
the court of Allah (), Allah () be pleased with him he should get used-to
recite DUROOD SHARIF excessively (in large number).
    (KASHFUL-GHUMMA)
    (16) When you forget something recite DUROOD SHARIF, If Allah () willing,
you shall have the recollection (of that thing). (SAADAT-UD-DAERAIN)
    (17) When Two friends meet each other, shake hands and recite DUROOD
SHARIF in favour of Madni Lord (), then before they part all their
preceding and future sins are forgiven. (ATTARGHIB-WATTARHIB)
    (18) Your reciting of DUROOD SHARIF would be the Divinely Shining light for
you on the Day of Judgement in the darkness of the Paradise Pathway
(an extremely narrow bridge providing the only approach to Paradise).
And an individual who wishes that on the Dooms-day he be given
conpensation in brimful form he should get used to recite DUROOD
SHARIF in exceedingly large number. (SAADAT-UD-DAERAIN)
    (19) Your reciting of DUROOD SHARIF is the protector of your benedictory
prayers, the reason of the Providence getting pleased with you and the

    (22) On the "Day of Judgement" Allah () would have the noble Scholars
of "HADITH" of the Prophet () and the Scholars of Faith, raised, and
the Ink (of their pen) would be emitting sweet fragrance. When
presented in the court of the Providence, Allah () would say to
them, "You had been reciting DUROOD SHARIF in favour of my Beloved
() for a long time. O' Angels! Take these (most blessed beings) into
    Paradise". (SAADAT-UD-DAERAIN)
    (23) The "One" who read the Holy Quran, praised his cherisher and then

to me (by the Angels). (JAMEH SAGHIR)
    (29) Recite DUROOD SHARIF on Friday in abundance because it is the "Day
of presence of angels (for witness)". On this day Angels present
themselves (in my court). And undoubtedly when any one from
amongst you recites DUROOD SHARIF in my favour then before he has
finished his recitation of DUROOD SHARIF in my favour, his DUROOD

    (30) Recite DUROOD SHARIF on the day of "Friday" and the "Friday Night"

with him such (splendoured) Shining light (and in so profuse form) that
if the same is distributed amongst the entire creations (of Almighty
Allah A) it would suffice all of them. (DALAYL-UL-KHAIRAT)
    (33) Recite DUROOD SHARIF on Friday and in the night between Thursday

    (ALQOUL-UL-BADIH)

    sacrifice at His altar.

    on the Day of Judgment.
(vi) The person who recited the salutations (as in the first four rhymed
verses above) to you () from the core of his heart four times.

    SELECTION OF DUROOD SHAREEFS
Durood Shareef are equivalent and give full benefits,
but some selected and very promptly accepted and
favoured Durood Shareefs are the following:-

    1. DUROOD-E-IBRAHIMI

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIW WA ALA AALI MUHAMMADIN
KAMAA SALLAITA ALA IBRAHIMA WA ALA AALI IBRAHIMA
INNAKA HAMIDUM MAJID. ALLAHUMMA BAARIK ALA MUHAMMADIW
WA ALA AALI MUHAMMADIN KAMAA BAARAKTA ALA IBRAHIMA WA
ALA AALI IBRAHIMA INNAKA HAMIDUM MAJID.
"O Allah, let Your Blessings come upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you have blessed Ibrahim and his family. Truly, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of
Muhammad, as you have blessed Ibrahim and his family. Truly, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious". The famous companion of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Ka'ab bin Ujrah (radi Allahu anhu), narrates that once it was enquired from Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) as to how blessings should be sent to him. The Prophet
(sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied that the blessings be said in the manner (it has been mentioned) above, that is, Durood-e-Ibrahimi.

    2. DUROOD-E-NAHARIYA

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA SALAWATAN KAMILATAW WA SALLIM
SALAAMAN TAAAMAN ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADINIL LAZI
TANHALLU BIHIL UQADU WATAN FARIJU BIHIL KURABU WA
TUQDA BIHIL HAWA IJU WA TUNAALU BIHIR RAGHAAA'IBU
WAHUSNUL KHAWATIMI WA USTASQAAYAL GHAMAMU BIWAJHIHIL
KAREEMI WA ALAAA A'LIHI WASAHBIHI FI KULLI LAMHATIW WA
NAFSIN BI ADADA KULLI MA'LUMIL LAKA YAAA ALLAHU YAAA
    ALLAHU YAAA ALLAHU.
"O Allah! Every moment and in every breath, bestow complete and the best blessings and perfect peace which is endless on Muhammad, our master, and on his descendants and his Companions, and may, for His Sake, all our troubles and tortures be over, calamities ended, and all our needs fulfilled, all our cherished desires attained, and good ends vouch-saved, and clouds are laden with water through the glorious countenance of Prophet. The perfect blessings and peace on the Prophet's House, his Family and his
Companions every instance in number equal to the count of all things in Thy Knowledge". Durood-e-Nahariya is a great power. If it is recited daily, it will give such strength and power to the reciter that no one on earth will be able to subdue him. It is a grand success in all the affairs of the
world. If this Durood Shareef is recited during days of calamities, Allah Ta'ala will help the reciter from the quarters unknown to the human beings. The reciter will be able to cross every barrier of handicap safely and soundly. In every worldly affair, in every trial and tribulation, success will be his net income.

    3. DUROOD-E-FATH

ALLAHUMMA SALLI WASALLIM WABARIK ALA SAYYIDINA
MUHAMMADINIL FAATIHI LIMA UGHLIQA WAL KHAATIMI LIMA
SABAKA WAN NAASIRIL HAQQA BIL HAQQI WAL HAADI ILA
SIRAATIKAL MUSTAQEEMI SALLAL LAAHU ALAIHI WA ALA AALI
WA ASHABIHI HAQQA QADRIHI MIQDAARIHIL AZEEM.
"O Allah! May Thy grace, peace and blessings rest on
Muhammad, our Master, who opens that which is closed,
and closes that which is preceded, who helps truth
with truth, and who guided mankind to Thy straight
path. May blessings of Allah be on him and his Family
and Companions as according to his exalted position
befitting his merit and his high rank".
Actually, this Durood Shareef is in the Holy Quran; but then it was kept a secret. Hazrat Abu-Bakr Siddique (radi Allahu anhu), the first Caliph of
Islam, used to recite it daily without fail. Some narrations say that it is because of this Durood that he was awarded the title of "Siddique" which means "Testifier to the Truth".
Hazrat Abul Muqqarab (radi Allahu anhu) says that a man's total sins will be washed away if he recites Durood-e-Fath for forty days continuously.
Hazrat Shaikh Muhammad Bakari (radi Allahu anhu) says that the recitation of Durood-e-Fath once a day relieves the reciter from the Fire of Hell.
Hazrat Syed Ahmed Hillam (radi Allahu anhu) says that Durood-e- Fath was the most favourite routine of Hazrat Ghaus-e-Azam, Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani (radi Allahu anhu) of Baghdad Shareef. The great Saints also say that Durood-e-Fath is actual and real light. Hazrat Sheikh Yusuf Bin Ismail (radi Allahu anhu) says that this Durood Shareef is the greatest mystery of
Allah. It brings 100% success and happiness to the reciter. In fact, this Durood Shareef brings prosperity and favour and solves all the complex
problems by the Grace of Allah. When a man recites this Durood Shareef, the Angels of Allah surround him, mercy covers him and peace starts descending on him.

    4. DUROOD-E-SHAFI'I

ALLAHUMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIN KULLAMA ZAKARAHUZ
ZAAKIRUNA WA KULLAMA GHAFALA UN ZIKRIHIL GHAFILUN.
"O Allah! Shower blessings on Muhammad and his
children whenever he is remembered by those who
remember him, and shower blessings on Muhammad and
family whenever he is not remembered by the negligent,
and grant him peace constantly in abundance".
This Durood Shareef is called Durood-e-Shafi'i because Hazrat Imam Shafi'i (radi Allahu anhu) used to recite it constantly and he received glad tidings of Jannah in this world. This Durood Shareef is of a very great significance. It brings tremendous prosperity, health, happiness and success in this and the next world. Hazrat Allama Sakhavi (radi Allahu anhu) has written in his book that Abdullah bin Abdul Hakam saw Hazrat Imam Shafi'i (radi Allahu anhuma) in a dream after his death and inquired about life after death. Imam
Shafi'i (radi Allahu anhu) told him that because of the continuous recitation of the above Durood Shareef, Allah Ta'ala gave him the most exalted position of the highest grade in Heaven and forgave him. Hazrat Imam
Muzni (radi Allahu anhu) has also narrated exactly the same story.
This Durood Shareef is of a very great significance. It brings tremendous prosperity, health and happiness and success in this world and the Aakirah.

    5. DUROOD-E-DAWAAMI

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIW WA ALA AALI
SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIN ADADA MA FI ILMIL LAAHI
    SALAWAATAN DAA'IMATAN BIDAWAAMI MULKILLAH.
"O Allah! Shower blessings on Muhammad, our master, in
the number that is in Thy knowledge such blessings as
may continue for ever eternal as Thy Kingdom".
This Durood Shareef is of a very great value. If it is recited only once, it amounts to all the rewards of all the Duroods. By reciting this Durood, one gets peace of mind and success in this world as well as in the next. After reciting this Durood Shareef, the reciter can claim that he has recited almost all the Duroods which are in this world known to the people. During days of upheavals, this Durood Shareef brings relief, success and true happiness. It is mostly the Saints and very pious people who recite this Durood
after every prayer. They also recommended this Durood Shareef to all the needy.

    6. DUROOD-E-TUNAJJINA

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA SAYYIDINA WA MAULANA MUHAMMADIW WA
ALA AALI SAYYIDINA WA MAULANA MUHAMMADIN SALAATAN
TUNAJJINA BIHA MIN JAMI'IL AHWAALI WAL'AFAATI WA
TAQDILANA BIHA MIN JAMI'IL HAAJAATI WATU TAHIRUNA BIHA
MIN JAMI'IS SAYYI AATI WATAR FA'UNA BI HAA A'LAD
DARAJAATI WATU BAL LIGHUNA BIHA AQSAL GHAAYAATI MIN
JAMI'IL KHAIRAATI FIL HAYAATI WABA'DAL MAMAATI INNAKA
    ALA KULLI SHAY IN QADEER.
"O Allah! Shower blessings on Muhammad, our Master,
and his Family such blessings by means of which Thou
may relieve us of all anxieties and calamities. Thou
may satisfy all our needs. Thou may clean us of all
evils and thanks for which Thou may grant us high
position and high rank and status in Thy presence, and
Thou may lead us to the utmost limit of our
aspirations and capacity in whatever is best in this
world as well as in the world Hereafter, as Thou has
    the full Power over everything".
This Durood Shareef is always a cure for all calamities in the world of worldly affairs. It was taught by Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) himself. To recite this Durood Shareef 70 times during days of calamity, turmoil and trouble, is a must. It works wonders. The great Scholar, Saint, Jurist and author, Imam ibn-Faikihani (radi Allahu anhu) says that there was
once a pious man called Sheikh Moosa Zareer (radi Allahu anhu). He embarked on a voyage by ship. Due to a heavy storm, the ship started sinking. All the passengers on board started crying and clamouring, but
Sheikh Moosa Zareer (radi Allahu anhu) went to sleep. He saw the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) in his dream and the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) directed him and the passengers to recite
Durood-e-Tunajjina 1 000 times. Sheikh Moosa Zareer (radi Allahu anhu) got up and started the recitation. As soon as he finished 300 Durood Shareefs, the storm subsided and the ship was saved. The other ship on the
high seas sank, but this ship reached its destination safely and soundly. This miracle was a sufficient eye-opener for the members of the ship. It was by the Grace of Allah Ta'ala and Durood-e-Tunajjina that all
were saved. All the Saints have unanimously given verdict that
Durood-e-Tunajjina is the best cure of all ills and all calamities of this world.

    7. DUROOD-E-QURAANI

ALLAHUMMA SALLI WASALLIM ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIW WA
ALA AALI WA ASHABI BI ADADA MA FI JAMI'IL QURAANI
HARFAN HARFAN WABI ADADI KULLI HARFIN ALFAN ALFAN.
"O Allah! Send your blessings and peace on Muhammad,
our Master, and on his Progeny and his Companions
according to the number of every letter in Quran and
let each letter carry thousands of blessings and
    salutations in it".
This Durood Shareef is a very sacred one. If it is recited after every prayer, it is said that the reciter will receive the Sawaab equivalent to the
recital of the entire Holy Quran. After reading the verses of the Holy Quran, this Durood Shareef should be recited 3 times.

    8. DUROOD-E-SADAQAH
ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIN ABDIKA WA RASOOLIKA WA
SALLI ALAL MU'MINEENA WAL MU'MINAATI WAL MUSLIMEENA
    WAL MUSLIMAATI.
"O Allah! Shower Thy blessings and beneficence on Muhammad, Thy creature and Thy Messenger, and shower beneficence on all men of faith and women of faith, and Muslim men and Muslim women". This Durood Shareef is a special one. Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (radi Allahu anhu), a close companion of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), says that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: "Whoever does not possess wealth to give in charity, should recite this Durood in his Du'a. It
will become a source of (spiritual) cleanliness for him". Hazrat Abu Huraira (radi Allahu anhu) says that the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said:
"Allah has said, 'If you spend I shall spend on you'".
This means that if you spend your money on others -
the poor, sick, needy and the orphan - Allah will give
you in abundance. But, what if a man has nothing to
give in charity? By reading Durood-e-Sadaqah, it will
    suffice.

    9. DUROOD-E-WALI

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADININ NABI YIL UMMI YI WA
    AALIHI WABAARIK WA SALLIM.
"O Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad, our chief the
unlettered Apostle and his Family Thy favours and thy
    Salutations".
Hazrat Shah Wali'ullah Dehlvi (radi Allahu anhu) said
that his father commanded him to recite the above
Durood Shareef as it was the best one.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu), a close
companion of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu
alaihi wasallam), has said that if a person recites
this Durood eighty times on Friday (after evening
prayers), then his sins equivalent to 80 years will be
    forgiven.
This is a very important Durood Shareef which brings
forth immediate success and satisfaction to the heart
    and the mind.
Hazrat Zarar bin Auzar (radi Allahu anhu), another
companion of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam) says that he used to recite this Durood
Shareef and fight with the non-believers. In every
battle, he saw that success kissed his feet, and he
never lost any battle on any day.

    10. DUROOD-E-ALI

ALLHUMMAJ AL SALAWAATIKA WA BARAKAATIKA ALA
MUHAMMADININ NABI YI WA AZWAAJIHI UMMAHAATIL
MU'MINEENA WAZURRIYATIHI WA AHLI BAYTIHI KAMA SALLAYTA
    ALA IBRAHIMA INNAKA HAMEEDUM MAJEED.
"O Allah! Bestow blessing and bounty on our Prophet
and on his wives, who are the Mothers of the Faithful,
and on his descendants and on the members of his
Household in the manner as Thou conferred blessings on
Prophet Ibrahim. Verily, thou art the Praiseworthy and
    the Glorious".
Hazrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu) said that if any one
wishes that he should get the maximum reward for one
Durood alone, then he must recite the above Durood
    Shareef.

    11. DUROOD-E-GHAUSIA

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADINIS SAABIQI
LILKHALQI NURUHU WA RAHMATUL LIL AALIMEENA ZUHURUHU
ADADA MAMADA MIN KHALQIKA WAMAM BAQIYA WAMAN SAIDA
MINHUM WAMAN SHAQIYA SALAWAATAN TASTAGHRIQUL ADDA
WATUHEETU BIL HADDI SALAATAN LA GHAAYATA LAHA WALA
    MUNTAHA WALAN QADAAA'A SALAWAATAN DAAA'IMATAN
BIDAWAAMIKA WA ALAAA AALIHI WASAHBIHI WA SALLIMA
    TASLEEMAM MISLA ZAALIKA.
"O Allah! Send thy blessings on our Master, Muhammad,
whose light was created before anything else in this
world and whose appearance became mercy and signal
boon for all the creatures, equivalent to all those
created previously and hereafter equal in number with
the lucky and unlucky ones; and send thy blessing and
bounties on him in the number which is impossible to
be counted even, and which may be spread all over, and
also that kindness and mercy which has neither
beginning nor end, and which is always fresh and fine
with your kindness, and the same blessings on his
    Family and Companions permanently".
This Durood Shareef was very dear and near to Hazrat
Ghaus-e-Azam, Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani (radi Allahu
anhu) of Baghdad Shareef. He ended all his lectures,
recitations and writings with this Durood. It is for
this reason that it is called Durood-e-Ghausia. It is
very sacred, very important, very effective and 100%
    success.
The Saints says that if a man recites this Durood
Shareef 10 times in the morning and 10 times in the
evening, Allah Ta'ala fetches him nearer and nearer
and loves him a lot. The reciter becomes a Saint
himself. Apart from this, he will be safe from all the
catastrophes of the world. The Mercy of Allah will
    start pouring upon him endlessly.

    12. DUROOD-E-AKBAR

ALLAHUMMA SALLI WA SALLIM ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADININ
NABI YIL UMMIYIL ARABIYIL QURASHIYIL HAASHIMIYIL

SARAAYA WAL ATAAYA SAAHIBIL MAKAAMIL MAHMUDI WALHAWDIL
MAWRUDI SAAHIBAS SUJUDI LIR RABBIL MA'BUD.
"O Allah! May Thy grace and peace rest upon Muhammad,
our Master, the Prophet of Arabia of Quraish Tribe, of
Hashmite Family of Mecca and of Madinah, who is the
wearer of the Holy Cap, the one who ascended the
Heavens and fought holy wars and achieved boons and
bounties, the one who has place of praise and who is
in-charge of Kausar Fountain, and one ever-bowed in
supplication of Allah (and Allah alone)".
Hazrat Sheikh Mohi'uddin Ibn-e-Arabi (radi Allahu
anhu) popularly known as "Sheikh-e-Akbar" has
disclosed a number of benefits of this Durood. It is
the most sacred, accepted and appreciated of Durood
    Shareefs.

    13. DUROOD-E-NOOR

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIN NURIL ANWAARI
WA SIRRIL ASRAARI WA SAYYIDIL ABRAAR.
"O Allah! Shower Thy blessings on our Hazrat Muhammad
who is light, actual light and mystery amongst the
mysteries, and the leader of excellents".
This is one of the the best Salawat in this world, and
mostly Saints and pious religious leaders recite it
    daily without fail.

    14. DUROOD-E-NABI

ALLAHUMMA SALLI WA SALLIM WA BAARIK ALA SAYYIDINA
MUHAMMADIW WA AADAMA WA NUH HIW WA IBRAHIMA WA MUSA WA

    SALAWAATULLAHI WA SALAAMUHU ALAIHIM AJMA'IN.
"O Allah! Grant Thy blessings and Thy peace and Thy
bounty to our Hazrat Muhammad, and on Adam, and on
Nuh, and on Ibrahim, and on Musa, and on I'sa, and on
those Prophets who were sent during the period between
each of them. Blessings on Allah and His peace be on
    them all".

    15. DAROOD-E-TAIYAB

Thy slave and Thy Messenger, the Prophet who could
neither read nor write, and on the House of Muhammad.
O Allah! Shower Thy blessings on Muhammad, and on his
House such blessings as may earn Thy Pleasure, and as
may recompensate him as will be goodly need of his
merit, and grant him the way of approach and elevate
him to the most glorious positions which Thou has
promised, and give him on our behalf the most
beautiful requital and a reward more excellent than
one granted by Thee to any Prophet on behalf of the
people, and shower blessings on his brethren from
amongst the Prophets and Righteous, O! The Most
    Beneficent".
Hazrat Ibn Abi Assim (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)
said that if any person recites the above Durood
Shareef on 7 Friday nights for 7 times, then the
intercession of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam) is assured for the reciter on the Day of the
    Judgement.

    16. DAROOD-E-ALFI

ALLAHUMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIW WA ALA AALI MUHAMMADIN
BI ADADI KULLI ZARRATIM MAA'ATA ALFIN ALFA MARRATIW
    WABAARIK WA SALLIM.
"O Allah! May Thy beneficence be on Muhammad and on
the House of Muhammad in a number equal to a million
fold of each atom (that is created by Thee) and Thy
blessings be, Thy peace on him".
This Durood Shareef brings immediate success for the
reciter and his entire family. It is a cure of all
    worldly ills.

    17. DUROOD-E-ROOHI

ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIM MA DAAMATIS SALAWAATU
WAS SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIM MADAAMATIR RAHMATI WA SALLI
ALA MUHAMMADIM MADAAMATIL BARAKAATU WA SALLI ALA RUHI
MUHAMMADIN FIL ARWAAHI WA SALLI ALA SURATI MUHAMMADIN
FIS SUWARI WA SALLI ALA ISMI MUHAMMADIN FIL ASMAAA'I
WA SALLI ALA NAFSI MUHAMMADIN FIL NUFUSI WA SALLI ALA
QALBI MUHAMMADIN FIL QULUBI WA SALLI ALA QABRI
MUHAMMADIN FIL QUBURI WA SALLI ALA RAWDATI MUHAMMADIN
FIR RIYAADI WA SALLI ALA JASADI MUHAMMADIN FIL AJSAADI
WA SALLI ALA TURBATI MUHAMMADIN FIT TURABI WA SALLI
ALA KHAIRI KHALQIHI SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIW WA ALA ALIHI
WA ASHABIHI WA AZWAAJIHI WAZURIYAATIHI WA AHLI BAYTIHI
WA AHBABIHI AJMA'INA BIRAHMATIKA YAAA AR HAMAR
    RAAHIMEEN.
"O Allah! Shower Thy blessings on Hazrat Muhammad ever
and ever until Thy blessings are to be showered. Grant
Thy bounty and mercy on Muhammad until Thy bounty is
granted and mercy is showered. The most selected
favours on the Spirit of Muhammad amongst all persons,
on the name of Muhammad amongst all names, on the
heart of Muhammad amongst all hearts. Thy most
bountiful favours on the grave of Muhammad amongst all
graves, on the tomb of Muhammad amongst all the
bodies, on the clay of Muhammad (tomb) amongst all
clays. May Allah shower His blessings on Muhammad the
best of all that and on the descendants of Muhammad,
on the Companions of Muhammad, on the friends of
Muhammad, and on all his family members, O! Merciful
    Almighty Allah and Great Merciful".
This Salawat is usually recited in the graveyard while
paying homage to the deceased. When it is recited,
Allah showers His blessings on the deceased. When the
sons go to the graveyard they should recite the above
Durood Shareef on the graves of their father and
mother, and all the parents who have passed away.

    18. DUROOD-E-SHIFA

ALLAHUMMA SALLI WA SALLIM WA BAARIK ALA RUHI SAYYIDINA
MUHAMMADIN FI ARWAAHI WA SALLI WASALLIM ALA QALBI
SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIN FIL QULUBI WA SALLI WA SALLIM ALA
JASADI MUHAMMADIN FIL AJSAADI WA SALLI WA SALLIM ALA
    QABRI SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIN FI QUBUR.
"O Allah! Shower Thy blessings on the soul of Muhammad
amongst all Souls, on the heart of Muhammad amongst
all hearts, and on the body of Muhammad amongst all
bodies, and on the grave of Muhammad amongst all
    graves".
A poor man complained to Hazrat Shahabuddin Ibn Arslan
(radi Allahu anhu) about his illness. The disease was
incurable. No doctor or physician could even suggest
any medicine for his disease. Hazrat Shahabuddin (radi
Allahu anhu), who was a very great Saint, listened
patiently to this poor man and then told him to recite
the above Durood Shareef. The poor man immediately did
so and his illness disappeared so quickly as if it was
never present. The poor man gladly returned to his
    house.

    19. DUROOD-E-INAAM

ALLAHUMMA SALLI WA SALLIM ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIW WA
ALA AALIHI ADADA IN'AAMIL LAAHI WA IFDAA LIHI.
"O Allah! Shower Thy blessings and peace on Muhammad,
our Master, and on his progeny according to the number
of Thy rewards and Thy bounties".
Those who wish to visit Madinah Shareef and pay
respects to the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam) must read this Salawat for 313 times before
going to bed. This Durood is the jewel of all Duroods.
    Its reward is unimaginable.

    20. DUROOD-E-AWAL
ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA SAYYIDINA MUHAMMADIN AFDALI
AMBIYAAA'IKA WA AKRAMI AS FIYAAA'IKA MAN FAA DAT MIN
NURIHI JAMI'IL ANWAARI WA SAAHIBIL MU'JIZAATI WA
SAAHIBIL MAQAAMIL MAHMUDI WA SAYYIDIL AWWALINA WAL
    AKHIREEN.
"O Allah! Shower Thy beneficence on our Master
Muhammad, the most favoured of Thy Prophets and the
most honoured of Thy chosen persons, whose radiant
life is the source of all light and who is the
conferee of miracles and conferee of the most glorious
place (Maqaam-e-Mahmood), and who is the leader of the
    previous and the later".
Those who recite this Durood Shareef reach the first
place before Allah Ta'ala. It is for this reason that
this Durood is called Durood-e-Awal (First). Those who
read this Durood Shareef daily are rewarded abundantly
and all their bad habits evaporate. This Salawat
fetches the reciter nearer and nearer to Allah Ta'ala
and brings forth all kinds of delight.

    TRANQUILITY FOR THE HEARTS
Subjects are not the slaves of their rulers, they
remain as free as they be when they are born to their
mothers. (Sayyiduna Umar - radi Allahu anhu)
Always abstain from the company of five people:-
    1. A liar who always keeps you in doubt.
    2. An idiot who will try and do good for you that will
    turn out to be disastrous.
    3. A miser who, for his personal insignificant gain,
will put you into great problems.
    4. A coward who will leave you in the lurch at the
    time of crisis.
    5. An evil-doer or sinner who will betray you for a
morsel and accept a much less reward. (Sayyiduna Imam
Jaffer as-Sadiq - radi Allahu anhu)
A true believer (Mu'min) will never be unfaithful,
treacherous or a liar. (Sayyiduna Imam Moosa Kazim -
    radi Allahu anhu)
Conceal hardship because you can achieve proximity
(closeness) to Allah by it. (Sayyiduna Sheikh Sayyid
Abdul Qaadir Jilani - radi Allahu anhu)
Moderation is most meritorious in affluence and pardon
most praise-worthy in power. (Sayyiduna Umar bin Abdul
    Aziz - radi Allahu anhu)
A student who learns half-heartedly and ungratefully
can never succeed. A student who is humble and weak
often reaches his goal. (Imam Shaafa'i - radi Allahu
    anhu)
The test of a true Muslim's mind is that it is always,
and to all intents, strictly obedient to the Will of
Allah, is constantly afraid of behaving in a manner
which is apt to displease Him resulting in the
withdrawing of His Grace. (Sayyiduna Kwaja Moinuddin
    Chisti - radi Allahu anhu)
If patience and gratitude had been two she-camels, it
would have mattered little on which I rode. (Sayyiduna
Umar Farooq - radi Allahu anhu)
A person is not worthy of leadership in any capacity
at all if he has never memorised or recited the Quran
on a regular basis and is not familiar with the Hadith
at a recognised level. This has to be so because all
knowledge for the sincere seeker is totally bound
within our Holy Book and the Sunnah of our beloved
Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). (Sayyiduna
    Junaid Baghdadi -radi Allahu anhu)
If you come across anyone who claims to have divine
inner experiences which at the same time contravene
the limits imposed by the Holy Shariah, then, ignore
him and never go near him. (Sayyiduna Abu al-Hussain
    Noori - radi Allahu anhu)
The believer may be cheated out of his property, but
never out of his religion. And while the religion of
the hypocrite could easily be taken away from him, it
is impossible to take away any of his property.
(Sayyiduna Yahya ibn Mu'adh al-Razi - radi Allahu
    anhuma)
The honour of man is his learning. Wise people are the

man's opportunity for immortality. While man may die,
wisdom lives eternally. (Sayyiduna Ali Murtudha radi
    Allahu anhu)
Sleep with the remembrance of death, and rise with the
thought that you will not live long. (Sayyiduna Uwais
    al-Qarni radi Allahu anhu)
To sit in the company of pious people is better than
doing good and to sit in the company of evil (immoral)
people is worse than doing evil. (Sayyiduna Khwaja
    Ghareeb-un-Nawaaz - radi Allahu anhu)
A person who does in secret what he would be ashamed
to do in public has no self-respect; in fact, he does
not even consider himself being a human being.

As long as you do not see your virtues, you are
virtuous; if you see your merits, you have no merits.

Qaadir Jilaani - radi Allahu anhu)
The company of a shameless man in this world will
bring shame to you on the Day of Judgement. (Imam
    Shafi'i - radi Allahu anhu)

because if he were to tell them the truth, they would
no longer be his friends. (Sayyiduna Sufyan Thauri -
    radi Allahu anhu)
Do not regret the past and do not worry about the
future. (Sayyiduna Dhun Nun Misri - radi Allahu anhu)

indulge in worldly pleasures. They prevent others from
loving this world but they love this world too much.
(Sayyiduna Ali - radi Allahu anhu)

having performed his morning Namaaz, remains sitting
there ngaged in the meditation of Allah. (Kwaja
Mu'inuddin Chisti - radi Allahu anhu)
The meanest of all people is one who busies himself
exclusively in feeding and clothing himself.
(Sayyiduna Baba Farid-ud-Din - radi Allahu anhu)
A pious and sincere Aalim always exercises humility
but when the vulgar and wicked possesses knowledge, he
begins to boast. (Sayyiduna Ali al-Murtuda - radi
    Allahu anhu)
There are three signs in a young sincere man: (1) He
will praise without an ulterior motive, (2) He will
give charity before being approached, and (3) He will
fulfil all his promises. (Sheikh Maroof Karkhi - radi
    Allahu anhu)
One who has not learnt the Quran and written the
Hadith, that is, one who is ignorant about the Laws of
Shariah, never follow him in anything pertaining to
Tariqah and do not take him as your Peer because our
knowledge of Tariqah is strictly in accordance with
the Quran and Hadith (ie. Shariah). (Sheikh Abul Qasim
Junaid Baghdadi - radi Allahu anhu)

Sister, why don't you just listen to the Qur'an on-line? It would be more accurate. There are various sites that have this facility - Islamway comes to mind.

In addition, check the following link - it will help you read the qur'an in Arabic, InshaAllah:

    http://www.as-sidq.org/durusulQuran/DurusulQuran.html

If you would still like an English transliteration I can try and help you.

"When a man asked the prophet, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, "O Messenger of God, when will the Day of Judgement be?", the Prophet replied, "What have you prepared for it?" he said, "I have not prepared for it a great deal of prayer, fasting nor charity, but I love God and His Messenger intensely," the Prophet said, "You will be with those whom you love."

    A beautiful thread

Truly Muhammad was a beautiful character, you can't help feel so many emotions when reading about his life story.

I hope Allah gives us the ability to follow Muhammad Sunnah as best as we can, and that we are in Muhammad's company in Jannah Ameen

Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Muhammad and his Blessed family and pious Sahaba.

Allah and His angels call down blessings on the Prophet . O you who believe! call down blessings on him and ask for complete peace and safety for him (33:56)

You know I never knew the meaning of this poem till now. This is the first poem my late mother taught me when I was a child.

Thank you akhi for posting the meaning - brought back many a fond memory, including a tear or two...

May Allah swt reward you immensely, ameen.
If someone praises one of them (the believer), he says, "I know myself better than others [know me], and my Lord is more knowledgeable of me than myself. O Allah! Do not take me to task for what they say, and make me better than what they think of me, and forgive me for those sins which they are unaware of."

A request for Lyrics (English or Arabic)

    Assalamu alaikum brothers,

I am new to this forum. As a matter of fact I have just rejistered. I found this forum due to a broad yahoo search for the lyrics of Ya Nabi Salam Alayka.

I found some of the lyrics on this forum but they dont seem to be the same for the salam that I have downloaded.

So I was wondering if any brother can help provide the lyric for the "Ya Nabi Salaam" posted at the Hanafi.co.uk site under the following link.

    http://www.islamic.pwp.blueyonder.co...afi.co.uk).mp3

If the link does not work, please go to http://hanafi.co.uk/.
From the left hand side, click on the Arabic Nasheeds
Ya Nabi Salam Alayka is listed at number 7.
