    Hifz Experiences

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ok so people ask me how did you go about memorizing the entire Qur’aan brother Aboo Thaabit? From cover to cover? Was it not difficult? How can I do something like that?
    Well to be honest it is very easy and I’ll let you guys in on a secret.
    Memorising the Qur’aan is extremely easy, in fact even a parrot could do it! And it is this concept you have to come to terms with.
    It really has to do with the mind-set of a person, meaning if you think something is hard you will naturally find it hard but if you think something is easy, it will become easy. So when you start, have the right mind-set and Ikhlaas.
    Allaah tells you in the Qur’aan itself:
    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
    Hence, indeed, We made this Qur’aan easy to remember, then is there anyone to remember it?
    (Al-Qamar 54:17)
    Do you then doubt Allaah?
    Secondly is the issue of discipline, I cannot stress this enough, if you want to be a haafidh you have to make time to memorize.
    Basically you will have to be a loner, lock yourself in your room listen to a recording over and over again.
    When I used to memorize I had a tape player and I used to rewind the tape over and over again trying my best to get the pronunciation and flow of the verse correct, sometimes late into the night and I could hear the rest of the family snoring.
    Also try to immerse yourself in the Qur’aan, make your breathing, eating and even your spare time into Qur’aan.
    Recite it whilst walking or perhaps sitting in class waiting for the teacher to arrive.
    In your sunnah prayers stop reciting soorah Kawthar and Ikhlaas, try a new soorah and master it!
    One of the things that inspired me to start memorizing was when I saw the Imaams of Makkah, namely Sudais and Shuraim, leading the Taraweeh prayers.
    When I saw them stand there leading so many people with that confidence reciting the verses of Allaah off by heart I thought to myself WOW! If they can do it so can I!
    And whatever spare time I got not memorizing in my room I used to sit in front of the tv and listen to their recitations.
    I used to quiz my friends about the Qur’aan, test them and then letting them test me.
    When you love something it truly becomes a pleasure.
    Remember to stop thinking about when you will be finished. I remember the day I finished my Qur’aan I was sad, people said to me this should be the happiest day in your life! I said I am sad because now I don’t have any new Qur’aan to memorize.
    So do not be hasty dear brothers and sisters rather take your time, do not see memorizing the Qur’aan as a task or burden, but rather enjoy the journey and process.
    I realise there are a lot of things left unmentioned but I figured there are many articles like this one all over the internet and my intention was only to inspire fellow Muslims to do the same thing as me and not to boast.
    My younger brother threaded the same path as me and will finish the Qur’aan shortly too inshaaAllaah.
    اللَّهُمّ اجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا
    O Allaah, make us leaders for the pious!
    Re: Hifz Experiences
    I read through this entire thread long before I actually joined this forum. I think it's my favourite one here ma'sha'Allah.
    May Allah swt give us all the tawfiq to become huffaz of the Qur'an and more importantly guide us to act upon its principles in the most pleasing and beautiful way.
    And make dua for me also.
    after a while alhamdulilah I memorized it
    It does take longer than shorter ayah so there is an element of being patient too
    Ibn al-Jawzi rahimahullaah said:
    “I saw most of the scholars preoccupied with the outer appearance of knowledge, rather than the understanding of its reality. For example:
    The recitor of the Qur’an is busy with the different modes of recitation, eager to learn the strange and rare ones. They do this thinking that the purpose of the Qur’an is to simply recite it, forgetting about the Greatness of the One whose Speech it is, and the warnings and threats contained in it. Sometimes, they might even think that mere memorization of the Qur’an will protect them from these warnings, so, you see such people being lax in regards to certain sins! If they truly understood, they would know that the proof against him is greater than it is against the one who has not recited as much as him!
    Re: Hifz Experiences
    How does one pronounce the daad, most tutorial just tell you something along the lines of "USE THE SIDE BLADE OF YOUR TONGUE WITH YOUR UPPER LEFT MOLAR TEETH TO EMIT THE SOUND", Ok I understand this, but I need more information, what do you do once you are making contact with the side of your tongue with your left molar teeths? At this point if I apply pressure to the side of my tongue focsing on molar teeths no sound emits until I apply pressure to the tip portion of my tongue and then release the pressure but then a daal/ heavy daal sound is emmited which is not what I want.
    So how do I emite the daad sound, can someone please explain each motion of their tongue in their mouth jzk.
    Hifz Experiences
    @goldenxshadow
    Because ض is a tafkheem letter (heavy) back of tongue should be raised, this produces the heaviness of the sound. The side of the tongue touches upper molars, either side of mouth where the pressure should exert and go all the way to the roots of top incisors (mainly)
    May Allah make it easy for you and allow you to produce the best ض you can do
    Re: Hifz Experiences
    Jzk, for your answer and ameen.
    Is there any involvement/function of the front section of the tongue or any other section besides the side and the back being raised when pronouncing the daad? When pronouncing the ض by exerting pressure to the location described by you is there an area of vacuum or trapped air created in the mouth which gets released once the pressure is released and creates the sound of the ض? Or is it just purely tapping the side of the tongue forcefully with the top left inner side of the mouth (as you described) that creates the sound.
    Hifz Experiences
    @goldenxshadow
    Do you have a teacher in Sha Allah? It would be useful that way, sometimes theory doesn't do any justice. And to answer simply there is involvement with the tongue against the hard palate that is directly behind the front teeth.
    Three ways to produce this sound:
    Left side of the tongue touching upper molars
    Right side of tongue"
    Both sides of tongue" (I use both sides)
    May Allah make it easy for you, Aameen
    Who can get enough of the word of Allah, the speech of Allah? Who can get enough from the medicine that is a cure for the heart, the soul and the body? The Qur’an is a cure from doubts and desires. The Qur’an is a cure from worries, anxiety and depression.
    Some people, when I tell them to recite the Qur’an to relieve the problems, they call me the next day and say well I am still depressed, I still have the doubts. I tell them when a doctor gives medication and we are talking about similar to that anti depressant medication, one of the things he says about some of them is keep taking it for three of four weeks for the medicine to kick in and you get its affect, and after that do not ever stop taking it. The Qur’an needs close friendship to take effect. It needs consistent persistent dedication and recitation in order to see its affect.
    السلام عليكم و رحمة الله وبركاته
    I have been having problems with my recitation. My teacher keeps saying I'm doing imala in my recitation and I have never been taught imala before. I know it's used in other qiraas but I'm wondering where I got it plus I'm mostly listening to Hussary رحمه الله
    It has been discouraging to say the least. While still having issues with makharij and sifaat of heavy letters esp ص & ط this pops out of nowhere.
    Re: Hifz Experiences
    Inshallah hoping to continue again.
    But very scared of learning and then forgetting
    Make dua for me please
    Ya Rab! When you give me wealth, do not take away my happiness. When you give me strength, do not take away my intelligence. When you give me victory, do not take away my humility. When you give me humility, do not take away my dignity.
    . Subhaanallah. There are some beautiful quotes in this thread. (Alhamdulillah.)
    LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH
    -------------------------------
    "And if you would count the graces of God, never could you be able to count them. Truly, God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Qur'aan 16:18)
    If they ask you "why are you sad?"
    Tell them truthfully and say to them
    "I rarely make istighfar and I left reading the quran"
    "Your body is from this Earth and can only be fed with food from this Earth. But your soul is from the sky and can only be fed with food from the sky.
    So make sure you have your daily portion of the Qur'an to feed your soul."
    Re: Hifz Experiences
    This thread needs to be bumped
    A problem made me reflect, the ability to recite/memorize/review the quran is a blessing in and of itself, you don't realise how great it is until you end up in the situation where you can't read much. Then you find yourself making dua just to be able to recite a little bit more, something a lot of us take for granted.
    Re: Hifz Experiences
    Loftiness is attained in accordance to one’s struggles
    And whoever seeks nobility, remains vigilant by night
    Whoever wishes to achieve, without due effort
    Will waste their life in seeking the impossible
    You search for glory and yet you sleep at night
    It is only the seeker of pearls who dives deep into the sea.
