On January 7th 2009, The Sun newspaper published a now notorious front page article, which alleged that Islamic extremists were using an online forum at Ummah.com to compile a ‘hit list’ of prominent British Jews. Less than 48 hours later, Tim Ireland exposed Glen Jenvey, the self-styled ‘anti-terror expert’ behind The Sun’s story as a fraud who’d deliberately fabricated the evidence on which the entire story was based.
Four days later, The People newspaper ran its own ‘exclusive’ celebrity terror threat story, claiming that Madonna had been targeted by ‘Muslim fanatics seeking revenge for Israel’s attacks on Gaza’ on two British-run internet forums.
Today, after a detailed investigation, the results of which are
published in full over at the Ministry of Truth, we can reveal that this story was also fabricated in a near identical fashion to that used in The Sun’s ‘Jewish hit list’ story and:
* That a comment, featured in the story, threatening to behead Madonna was not found on an Islamic forum but sourced from 2007 book on Islamic terrorism by Aaron Klein, Jerusalem Bureau Chief of the neoconservative WorldNetDaily.com,
* That in the two days prior to publication, three internet forums, including a generic South Asian forum with no connection to any Muslim organisation, were targeting with fake ‘action alerts’ designed to provoke forum users into making threatening or abusive comments about Madonna for use in the story, and
* That a comment, featured in The People’s story, by a alleged ‘fanatic’ using the name ‘Hammed10’, was actually posted by the same individual(s) that posted the fake action alerts.
The investigation has also uncovered evidence linking these fake action alerts and other related inflammatory messages to a former English Defence League spokesman who has a well documented history of racism and connections with self-confessed football hooligans, not to mention alleged links to the British National Party.
Finally, and in conjunction with Tim Ireland, we have evidence which raises serious questions about the possible involvement of a senior Tory MP’ parliamentary researchers in attempts to place dubiously source ‘terror threat’ stories with British newspapers.
