Narrated By Abu Mas'ud: The Prophet said, "If somebody recited the last two Verses of Surat Al-Baqara at night, that will be sufficient for him."

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah 's Apostle ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing of the foodstuff. I caught him and said, "I will take you to Allah's Apostle!" Then Abu Huraira described the whole narration and said That person said (to me), "(Please don't take me to Allah's Apostle and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you.) When you go to your bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi, (2.255) for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn." (When the Prophet heard the story) he said (to me), "He (who came to you at night) told you the truth although he is a liar; and it was Satan."

    Transliteration

Allahu la ilaha illahuwa alhayyu alqayyoomu la ta/khuthuhusinatun wala nawmun lahu ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi man tha allatheeyashfaAAu AAindahu illa bi-ithnihi yaAAlamu mabayna aydeehim wama khalfahum wala yuheetoonabishay-in min AAilmihi illa bima shaawasiAAa kursiyyuhu assamawati wal-ardawala yaooduhu hifthuhumawahuwa alAAaliyyu alAAatheem

    Sahih International,
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

    1. Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) reported, ' I heard the Messenger of
Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about these two following Ayahs, i.e,
verses: "Allah! There is no god but He - the Living, The Self-subsisting, Eternal. [2:255],
And, Alif Lam Mim, Allah! There is no god but He - the Living, The Self-subsisting,
Eternal [3:1-2], That they contain Allah's Greatest Name."
[Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal in his Musnad]

    2. It was narrated that Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The
Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites Ayat Al-
Kursi immediately after each prescribed Prayer, there will be nothing standing between
him and his entering Paradise except death."
    [an-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban]

    3. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the
Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In Surat Al-Baqarah there
is a verse which is the best of all the verses of the Qur'an. It is never recited in a house
    but Shaitan leaves: Ayat Al-Kursi."

    4. Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (peace
and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who recites it after each of the obligatory
prayers, then death will be the only thing preventing him from entering Paradise."
[ibn Sunni, at-Tabarani, ibn Hibban - Sahih]

    5. Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah
(peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Abu Mundhir! Do you know which Ayah in Allah's Book is the greatest? I said: 'Allah and
    His messenger know best.'
He (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: 'Do you know which Ayah in Allah's
Book, according to you, is the greatest?' I (Abu Mundhir) replied: 'It is 'Allah la ilaha illa
Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum'.[2:255]. Thereupon he (peace be upon him) patted me in the
chest and said, ' Rejoice by your knowledge, O Abu Mundhir! (i.e, may this knowledge
be a source of respect, honour and benefit to you)'."
    [Muslim]

    6. Abu Dhar (may Allah be pleased with him) said; O Messenger of Allah, what is the
greatest thing that has been revealed to you?' He said, Ayat al-Kursi, 'Allah! La ilaha illa
    Huwa'
    [an-Nasa'i]

    7. When you lie down in your bed, recite ayat al-Kursi, Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none
has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and
protects all that exists? [al-Baraqah 2:255] until the end of the ayah, then you will have
a protector from Allah and no shaytan (devil) will come near you until morning comes.
    [Sahih al-Bukhari]

    8. Everything has its pinnacle and the pinnacle of the Quran is Surah al-Baqarah. In it
there is an ayah which is the greatest in the Qur'an: Ayat al-Kursi
    [at-Tirmidhi]

    9. It is reported by way of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that someone
used to come upon him and take from the charity ? which the Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) had made him guardian over ? night after night, so on the third
night, he said: "I will report you to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon
him), the man said: 'Let me teach you some phrases with which Allah will cause you
benefit' ? they were very eager for good ? so he said: 'When you go to, read 'Ayat alkursi
(Verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah) completely, for there is still upon you from Allah a
guardian, and no shaytan can get close to you until you enter upon morning.' Then he
(peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He told you the truth and he is a liar, (that was
    a shaitan)."
    [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

    10. It is reported from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) asked a certain companion if he was married. He replied. "I do
not have so much money as to get married." RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon
him) said "Do you know Suratul-Ikhlas?" He replied: "Yes". RasulAllah (peace and
blessings be upon him) remarked: "That equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur'an. Do you
know Suratul-Kafirun?" He replied: "Yes." RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him)
said "it equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur'an". He further asked "do you know Suratul-
Zilzal?" He replied, "yes." RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That
equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur'an. Do you know Suratul-Fath?" He replied: "Yes".
RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That equals to a quarter of the
Holy Qur'an. Do you know Ayat-al Kursi?" He replied: "Yes". RasulAllah (peace and
blessings be upon him) said: "That equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur'an. Get married,
    get married, get married!"

    11. It is reported by at-Tabarani that the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him)
said: "The one who recites Ayat-al kursi after the conclusion of an obligatory prayer, he
is under the Care of Allah until the next prayer commences."
    [at-Tabaraani's At Targheeb wat-Tarheeb (2:435)]

And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

It doesnt matter if your bad at reading Arabic Sister, you'll get twice the reward for trying! Try to keep reading it in Arabic and you'll soon get better and better at it Inshallah Taa'ala!

There are ten rewards for each letter you recite from the Qur'an

As an authentic hadeeth in Sunan At-Tirmithee proves:
"Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that "Alif, Laam, Meem" is a letter, rather I am saying that "Alif" is a letter, "laam" is a letter, and "meem" is a letter."

The above rewards are atributed to reading the Quran in Arabic so it doesnt apply to reading it in English! At least read the Transliteration, it'll help you get better at reading and understanding Arabic Inshallah Taa'ala!

No need to feel horrid coz you are praising Allah swt's Majesty
...& no one is listening to you either bro/sis !

    Allah swt is not looking for accents but FOR degree of sincere piety/fear in your HEART;
    your sentiments/tears etc.

Best way to learn it in Arabic is to replay an audiotape again and again
before sleep & on waking up. If one really is hungry about it , one will learn it.

    Yes you'll get the benefit /protection .

Hardly any ONE ayah is so powerful ....mashaAllah
Draw closer to Allah swt, contemplate about His vast creation .

Atheism is a deathblow to one's thinking.....it's an idea that is as far-fetched as any imaginary world that a child is able to conjure up; and it is an error unsurpassed in the annals of errors. 'Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni

Re: Ayatul Kursi in English will it have the same benefit?

The benefits of Ayatul Kursi are:

    1. Holy prophet (SAWW) said: whoever recites the first 4 ayats of Surae Baqarah, then Ayatul Kursi and then the last 3 ayats of Surah e Baqarah, will not be inflicted with any kind of difficulty in his wealth or himself, Satan will not come near him and he will not forget the Qur’an.

    2. Holy Prophet (SAWW) said: Qur’an is a great word, and Surae Baqarah is the leader of the Qur’an and Ayatul Kursi is the leader of Surae Baqarah. In Ayatul Kursi there are 50 words and for each word there are 50 blessings and good in it.

    3. One who recites Ayatul Kursi every morning will be in the protection, safety of Allah until the night.

    4. If one ties this to ones wealth or children, they will be safe from Satan

    5. Our Holy Prophet (SAWW) has said: These things increase ones memory: sweets, meat of an animal near the neck, Adas (Lentils), cold bread and recitation of Ayatul Kursi.

    6. For those of our dear ones who have passed away, recitation of Ayatul Kursi and giving it as Hadiya to them, gives them light (noor) in the grave.

    7. Frequent recitation makes ones own death easy.

    8. When leaving home, if one recites it once, the Almighty has one group of Angels to come and protect you. If recited twice, 2 groups of Angels are assigned to do this. If recited 3 times Allah tells the Angels not to worry as the Almighty himself takes care of him.

    9. The Holy Prophet has said: If one recites Ayatul Kursi before going to sleep, Allah will send an Angel to come and look after you and protect

    10. When one is alone in the house, recitation of Ayatul Kursi and asking Allah for help will make you remain calm and you will not fear.

    11. The Holy Prophet has said: When leaving home,if one recites Ayatul Kursi, then Allah will send 70,000 Angels to do Istighfaar for him until he returns home, and upon his return Poverty will be removed from him.

    12. If one recites this after performing Wudhoo, the 5th Imam Hadhrat Imam Muhammad Baqir (AS) has said: Allah will give him a reward of 40 years of Ibadaat, his position will be raised in the Heavens 40 times (levels) and will marry him to 40 Horains.

    13. One who recites it after every prayer, their salaat will be accepted, they will remain in the safety of the Almighty and He will protect them.

    14. Allah told Prophet Musa (AS): If one recites it after every salaat, the Almighty will make his heart a thankful one (Shakireen), will give him a reward of the prophets, and his deeds will be like those of the truthful (Siddiqeen).

    15. To increase light or vision (noor) in the eyes, recite Surae Alhamd once, then Ayatul Kursi and then once the following dua:- “U-eedhu nora basaree binuril lahi alladhi la yutfaa”, “I seek refuge for the light of my eyes by the light of Allah(SWT), which does not become extinguished”.
