    Allama Iqbal's Poetry

Iqbal is the second best poet in urdu. First is Mirza Ghalib.
Iqbals era was from 1900 to 1950. Most of his work is like goes on top of your head. But I bought a big book explaining his work and poetry. Ill share one or two. And if you have some please share.

I think it refers to the mulla who leads the prayers in mosques. Who appoints them? are the mutawalllis qualified to choose an imaam. If he recites the Quran melodiously he is selected as an imam. He has spent a major part ofhis life within the four walls of a madrass whee he was brainwashed into believing what his teachers want him to believe. He has no knowledge of the world and its administration. What would be our fate if such mullas are placed as heads of governments?

No. Unfortunately i left the book of his poetry in pakistan.
I had a choice of two. Either bring faiz ahmed faiz s book or iqbals book. I chose faiz which i regret now.

    Translation

O Lord! To the Muslims heart grant that lively longing
Which may warm the heart, which may, restlessness to the soul, grant

Again brighten up every speck of dust of the Valley of Faran
Again Longing for the Spectacle, taste for the asking, grant

Again to the one deprived of the Spectacle, the discerning eye, grant
Whatever I have seen, to others also its sight, grant

Again guide, the strayed away deer away from Haram
To the one addicted to city, vastness of wilderness, grant

Again in the forlorn heart, create the Last Days tumult
Again to this empty camel-litter, the lover of Lailah, grant

In the darkness of this age to every perturbed heart
That mark of Love, which may embarrass the moon, grant

In elegance raise the Muslims goals to the level of Thurayyah
Self-respect of the ocean, freedom of the sea shore, grant

Love should be pure, candor fearless should be
Grant Light to hearts, hearts like crystal, grant

Grant the feeling for signs of The Calamity
In todays tumult, concern for tomorrow, grant

I am the wailing nightingale of a ruined rose garden
I am the supplicant for acceptance, O Benevolent one

    C h i l d's P r a y e r

My hopes and wishes come upon
My lips from inside my heart.
Oh Allah! My life should be
Like a lamp, never to go dark.

Let the darkness of the world
    Disappear from my presence.
    Let every place become bright
    From my shining existence.

Just as the flower stands with others,
    Improving the garden's beauty,
Let my life stand with knowledge
    And dignify my community.

My life should be built around
    Those who seek the light,
Just as the moth loves the glowing lamp
In the darkness of the night.

    Oh Allah! Make me strive
    Constantly to educate my mind,
    With the light of knowledge
That you gave me the power to find.

I want to dedicate my life to those
Who are in need of special care.
The old, the young, the ill, the hungry,
    I want to be fair.

Oh Allah! You gave us choices!
    Protect us from sins,
Lead us to the path of righteousness,
Help us to do good things.
‎"Listen with the ears of tolerance. See through the eyes of compassion. Speak with the language of love."

Does anybody know the parsi poetry of Mirza ghalib (r) or Alama iqbal (R), i don't even remember ?

    Cheen-o-Arab hamara, Hindustan hamara
Muslim main hum, watan hai sara jahan hamara
Tauheed ki amanat senon main hai hamarey
    Asan nahin mitana naam-o-nishaan hamara
Duniya kay bu't kadon main, wo pehla ghar Khuda ka
Hum uss kay pasban hain, wo pasban hamara
Baatil say dabney waley, aey Asman! nahin hum
Sou baar ker chuka hai Tu imtihan hamara
    Salar-e-Karwan hai Meer-e-Hijaaz (PBUH) apna
Iss naam say hai baaqi, aaram-e-jahan hamara
Iqbal ka tarana baang-e-dara hai goya
Hota hai jada paima, phir karwan hamara

nice thread mashaAllah. allamah iqbal's poetry is quite deep, i like it.

Sufi? No thread seems to go without Sufi-Salafi debate?
Worship only the CREATOR, HE is One and HE is the SUSTAINER of the Universe. Do not worship any of HIS creations nor through HIS creations
