people shouldn't fret over this.
The kingdom of the heavens and earth belongs to Allah. He creates whatever He wills. He gives daughters whoever He wishes; and He gives sons to whoever He wishes;
or He gives them both sons and daughters; and He makes whoever He wishes barren. Truly He is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.
(Shura: 49 - 50)
There's no contradiction between this and the other ayat. It doesn't necessarily mean that we shouldn't make dua for children. If that were so, why would those other duas have been mentioned in the Quran?
