I pray that you are all in the best of health and imaan.

I would like some advice please. InshAllah, I would like to begin the journey of memorising the Quran even if it is just a portion ....I have been feeling like this a while...where I just want to devote some years to just islamic study, but I don't have the resources to do such right now. But I really want to start with the Quran...after all this expands your mind and your heart. I am not a fast reader of Arabic script, but I can humbly say that my heart quivers when I hear surahs and I really want to try to memorise. When I study the meaning of surahs I feel so insignificant and afraid....I don't want to leave this dunya unprepared. I am ready to commit to this task. Please make dua for me.

I am not able to attend full time classes due to other obligations and I don't think a Saturday class would be enough. Does anyone know of any recommended online site with instructors who start this from the beginning? InshAllah, someone might have a recommendation since my reading is still weak.

Salam Aleykum,

Insha Allah, i`m self-learning Qur'an Arabic with help of a Qur'an Transliteration site ( http://transliteration.org/quran/WebSite_CD/MixRomanian/Fram2E.htm ) that has the transliteration in roman letters and the meanings of the phrase. The link above translates the meaning in Romanian language but anyone can use the transliteration in roman letters. Which it is something good tough.
I also use a website called http://tanzil.net which it recites the Qur'an in Arabic but it has translation in a lot of languages. Just put your mouse over the Arabic word and it shows the translation of the meanings in the language of your choice.

What it is kind of difficult to me is that i don`t have the translation in Romanian or English of the singular words of the chapter, and not the whole chapter itself. For example "The opening" 1.7 Şirāţa Al-Ladhīna 'An`amta `Alayhim Ghayri Al-Maghđūbi `Alayhim Wa Lā Ađ-Đāllīna - I know what Şirāţa means cause the word it repeats itself in 1.6 but Al-Ladhīna or 'An`amta? What do they mean.

Of course i can read the whole translation of this chapter "The path of those You have blessed, Not of those who have earned Your anger, nor those who have gone astray" But this is just the interpretation of the author, that`s how he translated this chapter, and not the word of the Qur'an itself is it? I mean is something very close by but not the word itself. Don`t want to offend anyone.

Anyways, does anyone knows, where can i find the transliteration and the translation of every word in the Qur'an? Or at least the majority of them.

I wanted to know is there a more effective way? I don't mind paying but don't want a live class either, something that's premade like the UnderstandQuran.com site.

It would be nice if something involved a transliteration, I seem to pick up words much faster with a transliteration.

I never finished learning how to read Arabic growing up, it was always on and off, different teachers and stuff. I still know the letters and recognise them when I see words, but I can't read a full sentence :(. It's kind of embarrassing because I see that even people who care very little about religion know how to read it. When I want to learn a new Surah I have listen to the audio over and over again, then write out the transliteration and keep reciting until I memorise it. I think I've heard that it isn't Fardh to learn how to read the Quran in Arabic but that there is great benefit in it, if you do.

So, as many of you accepted Islam as adults, I'm just wondering how long it took you all to learn how to read it? And do you understand what you are reading as well or did that come later?

Salaam Alaikum, I want to learn Arabic so I can communicate with my husband in Arabic (he is from Yemen). The problem is that when I use all these programs to learn Arabic what he says is totally different. He has explained this by telling me that what the program is teaching is like proper Arabic. So my question is how can I learn Arabic more in the style that Arab people actually use to have a normal conversation.

For example when he says the word "what" in Arabic its "aysh" but if I go by what is usually taught its "matha".......or yes his way is "iowa" the class way is "na'am"

So I dont want to go to Yemen with him one day and sound like I trying to speak proper lol....he said they (the people there) would laugh. Yes he does teach me as much as he can but I dont want to spend all my time with him trying to learn Arabic.
