The path of achieving fear of Allah: Shaikh Dr. Saleh Al Fawzan

Question: What is the path of achieving fear of Allah? Specifically in regards to acts of worship.

The path to that is firstly, through acquiring beneficial knowledge. If you acquire beneficial knowledge, especially, in regards to knowing Allah, His Greatness, His names and attributes, and His rights over His creation.Then you reflect upon the weakness of the creation and their need for Him. This earns and benefits you with the fear of Allah (Subhanawa talaa). Fearing Allah, The Great Lord means that you fear His anger, punishment, and wrath (subhanawa talaa).

This is by acting upon his commands and abandoning his prohibitions. The essence of the fear of Allah is acting upon the obedience of Allah, upon a light from Allah, hoping for the reward of Allah. While, abandoning the prohibitions of Allah, upon a light from Allah, fearing the punishment of Allah [1].

When asked what is taqwa, he replied:
“Taqwa is that you act in obedience to Allaah, and hope in His mercy, upon a light from Him; and taqwa is leaving acts of disobedience to Allaah out of fear of Him, upon a light from Him.”

Here is a heart-warming recitation of the Quran by a young boy who accepted Islam at the age of 9 and who is just 11 years old now!

Ma sha Allah, what he has accomplished in just 2 years of becoming Muslim! This small Muslim lives in conditions of abject poverty, filth with the stench of a nearby sewage plant that wafts through the air.
