Assalamu Alaikum

Before I converted I always wanted a puppy.. So when it grew up it gotten mean, shedding tons of hair daily, will chew up stuff and sometimes eat my food if I leave on the table.. I really do regret getting a dog now that I'm a Muslim.. People have told me my house is considered impure because of the dog and I know they are correct.. I talked to my mom about getting rid of it but she wants it.. What should I do!? This sucks..

Since you still live with your mom I say you have to deal with it. However, make sure the dog doesnt enter your room (keep the door shut all the time) because like you said dog slobber is najis and your prayers wont be accepted of you ar in najjasset surroundings. The main thing is there is a hadith that says the angels wont bless your house if a dog lives inside. So without being difficult with your mother (remember Jannah lays at her feet) try to convince her to trade the canine in for a feline.

how old is this dog? Sounds like he just needs some training to learn a few manners

The dog is going to be 4 yrs old by the end of this late year.. And the dog is always in my room.. Whenever we have guests, the dog always goes in my room, cause my room is like his room I guess.. And my mom hates cats so she'll never get one.. Sigh, I feel like doing something crazy.. :torture:

This dog needs to get some obedience training. At that age, he should be beyond his destructive phase. Has the dog had any formal training? You would be amazed at what a difference dog training lessons will make

You have to be the Alpha Male in control of the dog

1.Has enough food for him  You should consider to leave bones and dog foods in his dinning plate, in this way will not steal the food.
2.Also, you should brush his fur daily
3.Buy him toys in which you can leave food-he will chew them instead the fourniture

I forgot to add the dogs are social pets. They need the company of others dogs. The chewing at his age could be a signal of dog stress. You have to take him at walks in company of other dogs:)

This is what proper training will do...it sounds like the dog figures that he is the boss right now

Do you have any problem with that
Whats your problem if the dog is not your slave? Its enough he is not free due to the constraint of our society, and now do you want to break his little brain to make from him the perfect puppet:rolleyes:

Dogs live by pack law and we are part of the pack. If no one puts him in his place he will assume that he is the alpha and act accordingly. It is no harm to the dog to be a subordinate in the pack. I am not saying that you have to break the dog's will but he has to understand that he will have to answer to you if he does break the rules

Why to answer if he breaks the rules? He killed someone or what? The dog in question its a furry dog with big stomach. It seems his owner are not willing neither to brush him properly nor to give him food according with his size. So are you saying its still the dog fault because he is neglected? He is not loved either. The dogs have an extra sense and feels when they are not wanted. He has so many problems and you think still he is the one which need to be put in his place.

This is the most abusive answer from what i read so far in this site.

I don't think that it's abusive to train a dog. Is it abusive to teach a child manners? I do suspect that what you say might be partly true. It does seem like the dog does not get enough time from it's masters

My ex belief was Athiest, then before that Christian.. Umm.. My dad is supposed to be fixing our gate, so that the dog can stay out there like most of the day I guess.. Then I could probably keep a clean room by then..
