I have my niece (7)and nephew(8) staying with me for a week while the parents attend a funeral in Portugal. I've been digging through DVDs to find appropriate movies for them to watch. I do not give kids free reign over the TV until about 15 or so. Way too much garbage on the air nowadays.

You know those kinda movies that are just put a smile on your face whatever your age? Does anybody remember any good ones. Especially live action, not animated. I need to go and buy some new movies as I hope to have grandkids soon. All I can find in our collection that I really enjoyed are:

1. Swiss Family Robinson

2. The Sandlot

3. Born Free (yeah, that's an oldie)

Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know the name of a recent film about penguins?

BEST ANIMATED MOVIE EVER

Leave this place and never return.

Live action films for 7 and 8 year olds? Hmm... My nephews seem to LOVE the Jurassic Park films, but they've got violence in them as well, so it's upto you whether you want to show it to your nephew and niece. Comedies are good, things like Three Men and a Baby; Honey I Shrunk the Kids; Home Alone and Mrs Doubtfire. There's also the Harry Potter films, Men in Black 1 and 2; ET; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; the old Herbie films; Back to the Future; Babe; Hook and then there's the 101 Dalmation movies.

Regarding the penguins one, you may be thinking of March of the Penguins.

My 17 year old agrees with all of these ...I've only seen "Goonies", ohhh, about 800 times with my kids and "Charlie" was my fave as a kid.

Thanks for all the input from everyone ... I have a pretty good list going right now.

thanks to whoever came upwith "March of the Penguins" ... I wanna see that one myself.

Also, "Babe" ... I hear that is an awesome moral story ...

BTW, the "Godfather" is a bit overated to me, maybe I've seen it too many times or it's not holding up. I prefer "Goodfellas" and "Casino". Joe Pesci rules...

Yeah Akhy :rotfl:pay attention like ScarFace, etc. its all blood, gore and violence gallore by the bucket full but theirs some thinly contrived reason/ excuse why they legitimise doing it all. :D

'.....I tried to get out... but they pulled me back in...'

ALL Bruce Lee flicks are a MUST for kids.
Chuck Norris flicks ONLY for comedy purposes. :D

OR you could watch the original which will be a million times better. Go and rent or buy Infernal Affairs. One of the best films you'll ever see, and 2 of the best lead performances you'll ever witness.

I ordered the limited edition boxset from Play-asia.com

All three films in a funky boxset with english subtitles. Shame that the special features aren't subtitled as well though. Picked up the english version of Infernal Affairs when it came out here. It's so good, I bought it twice :coolbro:
