i am the total opposite

after living in nevada and then florida, i have developed much appreciation for cold weather. i get happy when its cold, whenever i see dark skies or rain clouds it puts me in the best mood and i have more energy. i miss autumn, i miss snow.

my husband thinks i am  he actually calls me "dark woman"

i agree the weather can effect your mood.

it's also down to how the weather restricts you, e.g in cold weather to some extent you're restricted to how often you go out, staying stuck indoors can make you feel depressed.

Honestly, when its raining or dark, i dont get depressed, i usually get scared and feel AWE in my heart....it reminds me of Allah SWA and what could be His wrath.... Alot of times i notice that when it thunders or lightening then you see everyones face is in awe or nerve wrecking...both muslims and non muslims...it's quite a unified terror...lol.

Advantages of the solid state -

Most drugs are solid at room temperature.

Two states of the solid -

Crystalline - Long range order - same packing arrangement throughout.

Amorphous - Short range order - Packing is not identical throughout the structure.

Oh because basically its important to understand the way molecules are packed as a solid. If you have a tablet for example - the chemist needs to ensure if its in its crystalline or amorphous form.

Because some drugs are polymorphs - which means they can change state.. so you might take a drug thinkings its say paracetamol, but in actual fact because it was unstable its changed to another form which is in fact poisonous

Moral of story - Don't take drugs :o

Acute management of Asthma

If patients symptoms show any feature of life threatening or a near fatal attack or if severe asthma attack remains after initial therapy then hospital admission is essential.

Aim is to prevent death, restore function and prevent relapse.

Patients PEF should be measured a.s.a.p in order to assess the severity of the disease. A PEF of <30% indicates a high risk of death.

Therapy:

Oxygen (40-60%).
Salbutamol (high dose pMDI and spacer or nebuliser (but not if PEF is too low).
Corticosteroids.

High dose oral prednisolone 40-50mg once daily or..
Hydrocortisone IV 400mg once daily..

If still not controlled then addition of..

Ipatropium (nebulised) or
Magnesium sulphate (single IV dose) which has shown to improve asthma symptoms radically.

Whats shallow breathing?

Is that when you breathe through a paper bag?

naa thats for anxiety attacks ukhti :) shallow breathing where u breathe only from the top of ur lungs and not from ur stomach ( well technically the bottem of the lungs) as usual, when u take the deep breath it takes too long and u cant get enough air through, so u start gasping if u can learn to control ur breathing then it helps a lot insha Allah, well worked for me anyway i have an inhalor only for emergencies like if i get really sick with a cough or something and it makes controlling my breathing impossible

(inhalor / inhalour ? .. how do u spell that anyway  )

I apologise *mouth zipped* <in terms of discr. *smiles*

My brother got hayfever- it's annoying (for him aswell)..

worst thing is when he blows up, nice way of saying it, sniffs!!!

I go all the way to the dining room/kitchen n get the tissue box 2 him with a *horrible take 1 NOW face*...but that's not discrimination, it's being nice
