Niqaab (face veil)

:salams brothers and sisters in Islam!

Following on from Jack Straw's comment about face veils, i'd like to hear your views on the niqaab itself. Do you think it's mandatory?

I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum or if the topic has come up before, please direct me to it if it has... :)
