I'm working on Surah Mariyam and Surah Furqan now.

Mariam is a bit tricky. Not 'ar-Rahman' tricky. The thing is, every chapter sounds like a little twist from the preceeding one.

e.g.

'allahu la ilaha illa huwal hayyul qayyoom. la ta'khuzoo hoo..." (Tilkar Rusool, Baqara)

'allahu la ila illa huwal hayyul qayyum. nazzala a3laykal kitaba..." (al-Imran).

See the repetition? You won't find it in Maryam. All of a sudden, it's a new ball game.

Keep up the memorization. This is the best of months for it. Imam Azzam (Abu-Hanifa) would put all his fiqhi books away and focus only on the Qur'an during Ramadan. We should all follow suit.

I, myself, have finished the Qur'an.

MashaAllah.

I find parts of Surah Mariyam very similar to parts surah Aal Imran... infact sometimes I mix up the two... but I only know the part of Zakaraiya from Aal Imran from 3:33 to 3:44

I shy away from trying to memorise Surahs more then 25 verses long. I dont know why.. not exactly sure how to go about it , plus i thin kits a confidence thing.

How do you guys do it>?

If I have enough time, I read from the Quran 3-4 verses at a time, but what works best for me is listening to a Qari over n over again, sometimes one surah for months, and when I approximately get the flow, I go back to the Quran, understand the translation first, and then refine the pronounciations. Then I recite along to become smooth.

Thats basically the method i use too - only short surahs too.

I think ill try the longer ones InshAllah.

JazakAllah brav.

Surah Maryam is quite easy actually, the only ayah that seems like a repeat is,

Wa salaamun alayhi yawma wulida wa yawma yamootu wa yawma yub3athu 7ayya.

and it's likeness,

Was salaamu alayya yawma wulidtu wa yawma amootu wa yawma ub3athu 7ayya.

Yeh, i know about 19 from Juzz Ammah. :( But iam thinking of finishing Juzz Ammah one day , however long it takes, and then try to learn some longer ones.

Its just a confidence thing, and finding the time. Plus bro Cardo method works for me.

Sometimes I mess these up:

3.40 قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّى يَكُونُ لِي غُلامٌ وَقَدْ بَلَغَنِيَ الْكِبَرُ وَامْرَأَتِي عَاقِرٌ قَالَ كَذَلِكَ اللَّهُ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاءُ

Al-Qur'an, 003.040 (Aal-E-Imran [The Family of Imran])

Then this is in both the Chapters:

I found Surah Maryam to be one of the easier ones alhamdulillah... because of the stories in it, and it splits easily into dif topics or elements of the surah so I found that helps with it more than the ones which are similar all the way through. Sometimes I think the early Makkan surahs have a harder style for memorisation... then again the rhythm and the generally shorter size makes it easy but because they are not so much narrative or explaining rules or details then it may become easier to confuse the order of ayahs or miss one out? (may Allah forgive us for r mistakes).

Those who are lacking confidence in learning, mayb you can try using the dua: rabee laa sahla illaa maa ja3altahu sahlan, wa anta taj3al ul hazna idha shi2ta sahla - oh lord there is nothing easy except what u make easy, and u can make the hard easy if u so wish.
And just keep reading the intended to learn surah over again and again.. mp3 player or fone with mp3 helps alot. I really did notice the dif since I started keeping quran mp3s on my fone.. its so useful 2 refresh what u hav recently learned, and also to listen 2 ur intended surah alot b4 beginning ur memorisation task insha allah will help bc it is so much more familiar on ur tounge and in ur mind.

At the moment im still finishing memorising surat ur rahman :( i had intended 2 complete the end of it b4 ramadan and i wanted 2 learn surat an noor or else a couple of smaller ones in ramadan but actually this hasnt happened :s cos of focusing on trying to get ahead with reading the quran thru, 2 ensure a complete khatm i hav not focused on memorisation as much as i had wanted to but insha allah if i get the khatm finished then i can focus on that. I dnt like the end of a surah hanging unlearned for ages :S

As for the original question, I have juz ama (apart from surat an naziat :smack: i really hav 2 memorise that one to complete the set ia), surah maryam, surat al mulk, surat at tahreem, and then bits and pieces from dif surahs which insha allah i have 2 complete so i dnt leav surahs hanging like that.

Qur'an memorization kit
(ok, not really a kit, but a few links and articles that i gathered that will help insha'Allah)

The Prophet said: “By Allah the One Who Has my soul the Quran is more detachable from our memory than the tied camels,” and he also said: “The example of a Quran memoriser is like the example of a camel owner; if he takes care of him and tie him up , it stays, and if he neglects him, it runs away”

`Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (sal Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, "The one who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: `Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.''' [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

I complained to Waki about the weakness of my memorization,
so he guided me to the abandonment of sin

And he said "Verily, the knowledge of Allah is light
and the light of Allah will not guide a sinner"
