A.S.A.

Is smoking prohibited during fasting? Could somebody finally answer to this?

There is nothing going to stomach, but to lungs.

It does not take my hunger away, it just increases it (and makes me more thirsty, and so put me suffer more).

I spend money into something I should not, but I do it anyway, and smoke twice as much in the evenings.

Just answer to this, please, and give reasons and explanations if possible.

Assalaam Alakium,

Smoking is not permitted regardless. I know its hard, I have been there.

If you cant stop smoking cold turkey, I suggest this:

You absolutely can not fast and smoke. The point is something is going into your mouth and it is no longer pure. If you MUST smoke, use the Ramadan as a month long commitment for yours and Allah's sake to cut back and eventually quite. Do not smoke during the fast and this helps your body but cutting out 12 hours of smoking. Each week cut down more smoking. Example is lets say from iftar until sleep you smoke 10. Each week cut 2 out of the night supply until you are done.

Allah told us not to smoke because it is a drug. Why, you and I are addicted. It is more addicting, IMO than regular drugs and alchohol. Allah knows what is best for us and you know smoking is horrible for your health.

Use Ramadan as the beginning of you quit the addiction rehab home program.

Let's keep each other in our Duas to quit, inshallah. I smoked for 15 years which means I started WAY before I became a Muslim. Because of Allah I want to quit now and am trying.

Let us not have Allah be mad at us on Judgement Day for smoking. Lets work towards him being proud of us for quitting.

Salaam,
SisterKhadija

Smoking is haram according to most scholars. the earlier fatwas saying smoking is halal were done before doctors knew how harmful nicotine is.

best thing is to give up

and like the others said, yes it does break your fast

IT's not about what goes in the stomach... you can't fast and be on intra-veinous medicine either...
Fasting is about self restraint after all.

You got God's command to fast, and then you got that addiction commanding you to take a drag. If you obey your addiction and not obey God's command, maybe you are committing some sort of minor shirk.

One of the most effective way to quit smoking is done in 2 steps:
1) Quit!
2) Rejoice that you are not a smoker anymore

Atleast you can rejoice for 12 hours.. and then get back to follow the command of your brain :)

what do u do on long flights!?!!

errr yea but this is what i dont understand, my grandmother smoked 40 a day (she used to work in a cigarette factory) and lived to be 89, she passed away this january from a non smoking related condition. I know loads of smokers who are still alive in their late 80`s ...so how do u explain that? Allah ta ala is the giver and taker of life Allahu alam.
