In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind
Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmutallahi Wa Barakhatu.
I wonder why people cannot pronounce a name correctly?
Is it something I’m doing wrong or them?
For e.g if my name is ‘FARTAQI’… I am not FARTakeee or Far-tacky- I try saying my name is the correct pronunciation and even when answering calls I pronounce it loudly for people to understand, so how is it I end up still being called…
FARTACKY?
And the French dude (default person I’m using here) gets his name pronounced correctly with accent like Henri.
Beats me, someone please explain, JazakhAllahu Khair.:)
Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmutallahi Wa Barakhatu.

how do you pronounce fartaqi?
Its difficult to explain to someone who cant speak Arabic, what you can do is download Ahmad Bukhatir's nasheed called 'Fartaqi' and listen how to say it for yourself.

yeh i have the same problem :D i think its mainly because the english language doesn't pronounce "r" the way for example we middle-easterners do, where you put your tongue up to the roof of your mouth, they say it as "arrr".
The worst is the way they say "iraq", like eye-rak, grrrrr, its eh-rark!! al eh-rarkia!! :p

You daft or something?
They say 'Amreeka' not 'Amuhrikah' and dont even ask me what the other word is that you wrote.

beats me too --like it's ha-yaa, pronounced exactly the way it's written and not hey-yeah
i really wonder why the "s" doesn't get pronounce the way it ought to when it comes to Arab names/ terms [ 'message' will be pronounced as 'message' and 'Christian' is not Chriztian' but when it comes to say, 'Asma' -- surprisingly it's Azma... ..]

People always get muddled up with the surnames, especially white people.

But I thought there were no vowels in Arabic:confused: So Db is Debe (Debbie) or Dob or Dib etclol no tricky, there are vowels but we dont always write them. Still there is a correct way and incorrect way to prn a name or a word.
My names dont get much problems, all easy to pronounce but many times people think my name is Hana not Anna

Don't forget 'Gutter'. That's how they routinely pronounce Qatar on CNN.

I haen't come accross many who've been able to pronounce my name properly either. It's really rediculous... some of the pronounciations.
bein' an asian in my english pronunciation i would say
Fal-takii
buts lets face it ,if 'fart' is in any name the bearer of that name is going to be a natural born target......might think about a change like mary or sylvia
or kagome maybe....:)

As Salaamu Alaikum,
I've been called; Saeed, Za'eed, Saheed, Sayd, Sayid, Sa'eed.
I remember once I was waiting in hospital for a good 5 hours, and I almost missed my turn because I thought they was asking for the dude with the hilarious Mr. Actor name, turns out that was me. They must have thought me really retarded, I mean not knowing my own name and all.
