Salam

came across this website: http://www.salamdarfur.org/

Its a growing muslim organisation which is hell bent on doing something for darfur. Contact the administrator for your contributions plz, or if you want to help out with time.

Whats happening in darfur is wrong. There is no reason for the killings of innocents, there is no room for it in Islam, Let us not be silent about this, spread the awareness and make some contribution even if it is through some money.

Thankyou

I will support it.

The Sudanese government are just as corrupt. They have done little to re-establish the Khilafah. The result of their disobedience is Darfur and many other civil conflicts within Sudan.

The lack of the application of Islam is the reason NOT the opposite. 'Pure' Islam in the government level is needed.

The whole reason for the "slavery" verses in the Quran are for the sole reason for POWS(Prisoners of War). Where there lacked prison houses during the time of the revelation of these verses in the Quran.

Therefore, the misapplication of the above verses is the problem.

The intention of the "slavery" verses were to eventually totally eliminate slavery in Arab society during that time.

The reforms by Khalif Umar (ra) were not extended into the next two leaders ( Uthman and Ali (raa)) because they were busy in civil wars between Muslims.

So, when the Muslims extended their territory into North Africa under the Ummayyads and Abbassids, Islam was not applied accordingly or the scholars did not observe the progression of the "slavery" verse to eventually eliminate slavery as a practice.

Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 517:
Narrated Hakim bin Hizam:

I said to Allah's Apostle, "Before embracing Islam I used to do good deeds like giving in charity, slave-manumitting, and the keeping of good relations with Kith and kin. Shall I be rewarded for those deeds?" The Prophet replied, "You became Muslim with all those good deeds (Without losing their reward)."

Quran 33:50

O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated (from Makka) with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Khalif Umar(ra) reforms ended and were no longer applied because of the civil war ( afflictions ) among the Muslims years later. This was prophecied in the following hadith:

Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 9, Book 88, Number 216:
Narrated Shaqiq:

I heard Hudhaifa saying, "While we were sitting with 'Umar, he said, 'Who among you remembers the statement of the Prophet about the afflictions?' Hudhaifa said, "The affliction of a man in his family, his property, his children and his neighbors are expiated by his prayers, Zakat (and alms) and enjoining good and forbidding evil." 'Umar said, "I do not ask you about these afflictions, but about those afflictions which will move like the waves of the sea." Hudhaifa said, "Don't worry about it, O chief of the believers, for there is a closed door between you and them." 'Umar said, "Will that door be broken or opened?" I said, "No. it will be broken." 'Umar said, "Then it will never be closed," I said, "Yes." We asked Hudhaifa, "Did 'Umar know what that door meant?" He replied, "Yes, as I know that there will be night before tomorrow morning, that is because I narrated to him a true narration free from errors." We dared not ask Hudhaifa as to whom the door represented so we ordered Masruq to ask him what does the door stand for? He replied, "'Umar."

Ynet reports today (Nov 22nd) -

"Its been 60 years since the Nazi atrocities occurred and it seems that the world has forgotten all about it, but as Jews we feel obligated to stand up and say *NO* to another holocaust " declares Ariel Perlo, an 18 y.o ulpana (girls' religious school) student from Australia. Perlo stood among some 500 demonstrators last Monday, nov 20th, in Zion square in the heart of Jer'm, protesting against the genocide that occurs uninterrupted in Darfur for the last 3 and a half years. Among the demonstrators were Rabbis, yeshiva and ulpana students and university students. The demonstrators message was "The Israeli people is unaware of the Darfur issue, and the Israeli state is not involved in the int'l efforts to stop the killing".

The demonstration was organized by Perlo and her friends from the organization Haed (http://haedarfur.org/) (=The Witness, also Hebrew acronym for "Save Darfur People"). the movement was formed by yeshiva and ulpana students from all over the world. The members hang posters in all the campuses in the Israeli capital. "It was exciting to see so many people from the entire width of the Israeli society spectrum participate, from the orthodox, to the reformist and conservatist, to the secular." testifies Perlo.

"We are certainly pleasantly surprised to see the large extent of the response to our call" says Eitan Shwartz, winner of "The ambassador" reality TV show and a prominent activist for the Darfur refugees who fled to Israel. Some 250 refugees from Darfur were allowed asylum in Israel. He continues "During my stay in the US, I learned that Darfur is one of the most important topics that concern the American Jewish community today and a lot of pressure is put on the American gov't to step up its involvement in the conflict."

once again, more distruction from the topic.

and no, I disagree, we cannot call it genocide.
In all the years of Israeli occupation of the terriotories, some 20,000 Palestinians were killed from Israeli forces. that's about 500 per year. genocides are typically measured in hundred of thousands or millions. There were some years (like 2002) where more Israelis died than Palestinians.

There is no Israeli policy, official or hidden, to kill Palestinians. no WMD used, no indiscriminate carpet bombing ....
There are targeted assasinations of members and leaders of terror organiations, and large scale operation every now and then.

in my book, that's not genocide. If Israel really did have a goal of killing all Arabs, we could have finish it some 30 years ago.

Darfur is a tribal conflict.

AFAIK, darfur is a racial conflict between Arabs and Africans.
but even if it is a tribal conflict, so what? is there something sacred or special about tribal conflict? does it give "free pass" to mass murder?

if I remember correctly, the genocide at Ruwanda was a tribal conflict, that did not stop the UN from declaring the conglict as genocide ....

Darfur is a tribal conflict.

is that an excuse?

Darfur is a tribal conflict.

we can say the same about iraq, so by your statement you should be as concerned about darfur and you are about iraq.

when bosnia happened look at how many muslims went to protect the muslims from harm. from all over the world muslims came. arguably mujahideen made more of an impact than the UN in halting human rights abuses.

now this is happening in sudan.

we do nothing.

if we fear to tell an oppressor that they are an oppressor then we are nothing.

how can we possibly talk about one day re-establishing khilafah inshallah when these kind of injustices go un-opposed.

if we do nothing, sit back and say "the people doing it arent muslim the victims arent muslim" Allah subhaana wa t'ala will replace us with a people better than us.

shame on the ummah.

Here's darfur from a Sudanese person. Tribal conflict? in essence, yes, but not completely

The Sudanese government, and yes i agree about the corruption, has been funding and giving weapons to a group of people in Sudan called and correctly labeled "Janjaweed", who are as far as i know a mixture of islamic and non-islamic arab speaking africans from the sudan and chadian area, to perform attacks on Darfur's tribes who are animists with a very very slight population of Christianity but it is dominantly an animist tribe. Janjaweed people grew stronger and stronger by the funds and weapons they've been receiving from the corrupt government and soon they've grown slightly rebellious and stronger than the government itself that's where Darfur happens. The attacks get out of control and no longer is the Janjaweed a government aided group but a rebellious groups with it's own leaders, commands, and operations.

Wikipedia:
The Janjaweed is a blanket term used to describe mostly armed gunmen in Darfur, western Sudan.

Anyways that's where are the genocide is coming from, rebel groups called Janjaweed commiting mass murders to the animistic Darfurian people. So basically, Yes, it is a racial, it is to some extent ethnic cleansing and disgusting brutality.

Addition: Janjaweeds do not consist of only Sudanese, but also chadian identities.
