I converted to Islam in 2001 and when my mom died in 2006 I kind of converted back to the catholic church. I NEVER thought that Jesus was the equal to Allah; After my greeving of my mothers death; I went back to praying to Allah.
Once again I NEVER thought God had a equal and the whole 3 months I questioned the heck out of the things that gave me a problem in the first place. I also never attended church.

Do I need to say my Shahada over?

shahada should be renewed constantly.. say it as often as possible..

but if you mean a formal "conversion" at a mosque as some people have.. no I don't see why you should do all that again.. unless of course you think it will give you a boost of imaan and be beneficial to you, get you reintroduced to the masjid community etc..

you just had a tough time and shaytaan made you feel doubts because of the hardship you were suffering.. some people in bad times get closer to god and pray more.. some people become depressed and find it hard to pray at all..

what you should focus on is asking yourself why did you turn away from islam when it could have been of most help to you.. and what can you do within yourself to prevent that ever happening again and how can you strengthen your faith.. and do lots of dua to Allah(swt) to make your faith stronger and make you firmer upon the deen..

Yes, chained is right when she says that the shahadah should be constantly renewed; we can unintentionally engage in an act of disbelief at any one time. Also, there are great virtues in saying the kalimah (testimony.)

Regarding your question, It really depends on what you mean by converting back to the catholic church. Also, did you stop praying? The majority opinion is that if you neglect your prayers, you become a disbeliever as it is an act of kufr (disbelief.)

However we are not scholars and cannot provide a ruling (fatwa) on you and your case. Please ask a scholar telling him all the details of your case, InshaAllah. It is very important that you ask a shaykh about your situation.
