Firstly my Question is: What is your opinion on this?

I was legally blind

I Received A Sign

http://www.signsevent.com/images/Evelyn-small.jpg
In 3 ½ years, I became legally blind, only seeing vague shapes, colours and shadows but no details. I could no longer work, drive or function as a normal person.

I attended a Signs meeting and received a strong conviction that I was being healed. I knew it was a sign. I saw a doctor right away. My eyes were just the same, but my conviction didn’t waver.

The doctor told me my sight was terrible and that neither glasses nor
contact lenses could help. Another doctor said the same thing, apologising for the pain he would cause as he tried lenses on me.

But when he popped on his trial lens, I saw again—with no pain!
For the first time in 2 ½ years, I saw my husband and saw our 18-month-old son for the first time! My sight improved every week. Soon I was driving again and doing all the things I had enjoyed before blindness had paralysed my life.

This is a disease that is said to never reverse or improve; yet for some medically unexplainable reason, my eyes and my vision are constantly getting better.

'On three I will shoot' - Dad

I Received A Sign

My dad would lash out at my mum for no reason. He moved on to me and this affected me badly. At the age of three I was diagnosed with severe developmental problems.

My dad forced me to stay in my room for weeks on end. Once I spent a whole week under my bed. My mum would put my food under the bed because if I dared to come out, one of us would be beaten.

When I was nine, my dad pointed a gun at me while giving me a three-second-run head start. By age 15 I'd tried to kill myself three times. During a fight between my parents, I walked out. I bumped into a friend and through her I learned about signs and attended meetings.

Today, I am no longer depressed. A great change also happened in my family. My parents rekindled their love for each other. My dad sent me an emotional letter, telling me how much he loved me and apologised for everything.

It’s really amazing what can happen when you receive a sign pointing you in the right direction.

Heart disease was ruining my life

I Receved A Sign

I could only speak for short periods of time and would have trouble climbing stairs or doing anything else that required exertion or even slight heavy breathing.

When I discovered that I’d inherited the same heart problem that had killed my father, I got really scared.

As a single mother, I was already struggling financially but I ended up losing my job due to the condition.

I attended a SIGNS meeting and felt comforted. I’d cried so much over my problems, but at that moment I no longer felt like crying. I knew that I had to be strong and face up to this sickness with the determination to beat it.

I was delighted when my doctor started coming back with positive results from tests on my heart. Soon the heart problem could no longer be detected and my symptoms left!

I am now a hospital ward manager. I’ve helped my family by buying four properties in Nigeria which my mother rents out. I’ve put my brothers and sisters through school, and they now have well paying jobs. I also treated myself to a 2006 Mercedes Benz!

Life had no purpose

I Receved A Sign

http://www.signsevent.com/images/carol-small.jpg

An abusive relationship left me depressed and with no desire to live anymore. Drinking and taking drugs was how I tried to cope, but soon it turned into an addiction.

I felt emotionally shut down and life had no purpose.

One day I hit rock bottom. I’d had enough of living. Intent on killing myself, I got a razor blade and set my alarm clock to ring in 10 minutes. I was determined to take drastic action unless something positive happened fast.

Just then a newsletter dropped through my letter box. It had a help line number, which I called immediately.

The counsellor calmed me down and explained that I didn’t have to end my life. There was help for me. He gave me an appointment that same day at the UCKG HelpCentre. They counselled me and the help I got set me on a good path again. Today, everything has changed! I am no longer depressed, suicidal or taking drugs.

If it wasn’t for that newsletter I would be dead right now. It was a sign
that saved my life.

*I saw the sign,
and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign.
Life is demandin' without understandin'
I saw the sign
And it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
No-one's gonna grag you up
To get into the light where you belong
But where do you belong?*

Yeh, people who suffer from minor deppression never actually go through with it fully, compared to major depression who do...

ádvent of a new 'belief system'...?

Who is this event for?

It’s for anyone who knows that his life can be better, but just hasn’t
discovered how to make it happen. It’s for people who don’t want to settle for what life is giving them.

What will happen?

The meeting will combine practical teaching and the power of positive prayer. The teaching will equip you to help yourself; and the prayer
will bring you spiritual help - for those things in your life that only God
can do.

Is this a religious event?

To us, ‘being religious’ means following an organisation, and that’s not what we’re about. We help people recognise that they have a spiritual side and that they can use it to find a more fulfilling life. This event is open to people of all faiths, and even to people of no faith.

Okay, sorry if anyone misunderstood me, I am not planning on getting a "life-lift" just wanted to know your opinion on it, nothing more nothing less. But I guess it's my fault for not elaborating  sorry

Okay, so mainly for S.Nawar and Br.Salman Al-Farsi...and anyone else who is interested...

"Signs" to the point means..."Signs from God" (in this case Jesus christ  )

Their organisation UCKG (a christian spritual centre) is mainly aimed at "faithless" people who's lives are spiralling downwards and feel as though there's no point in life etc. Proper serious cases like, drugs and relationship problems etc to the extent that they lose their loved ones or they feel like killing someone or themselves.

So these desperate people get counselling. From what I understood is that they go to the help centre and besides life guidance they are PRAYED FOR and they are given certain prayers to recite by themselves FOR themselves and they have dramatic changes in their lives, similar to the stories above.

There are more stories here: www.uckg.org/Case-studies/index.php

And now they are holding this event with 18,000 people attending all seeking for signs

So now, Islamically, what is your opinion on this? I mean say you had to give da'wah to one of these...people, would you even bother? They've already recieved signs from Jesus their "Lord" and "Savior"

Well, that was the point of my post, the thought is sort of nagging me.

Its psychological by a mile..

If a group are given a placebo without knowing, and told that this is a drug that will cure them (when in fact it is not), they actually feel like they are getting better. People are constantly looking for answers in this society, especially where depression is so common. This whole 'signs' thing seems like an easy option. When they take that step and join, they've already taken the step to recovery because they recognise they have a problem and want it to be resolved.

It is all in the mind.

Jazakullah sis Mystique for the explaination :p

Yeh I agree with Yusra, defo psychological.
But I dont know, Im a bit dubious as to the authenticity of all the stories meself

This really reminds me of our tree corp, if it didnt have leadership issues it could have helped many depressed people, who would of taken pleasure in helping to save trees.

If we study all the cases listed above, it is quiet clear that they all lacked attention, security, happiness, collectiveness, support... well it seems they were deprived of all that. The 'signs' cult/group provided them with all of that by holding their hand, made them happy, made them part of something, gave them security and something to hold on to, ie to propogate signs.

I believe even our tree org could have done that.

when we are looking for signs, we will inevitably find them. our minds like to play games with us.

strange that one's own mind has such power, and stanger still that it uses said powers against itself at times. the constant battle being waged between concious and subconcious thought is a bizarre thing, and seemingly counter-productive.

Good comment Token... for once in your life.

btw you ever saved a tree?

Nawar
13-06-06, 06:37 PM
Can I just clarify that the problem with the tree org werent leadership issues, it was rebels with a flawed plan but strong desire to overthrow and take over

AND I might add, the tree org is nothing like this dodgey 'signs' cult. Our members are happy, not depressed when they join and stay happy throughout their membership.

However depression and withdrawel symptoms are known to occur with members after exit from the team

Yeh my biggest 'sign' came to me the moment I joined the trees org.

It has changed my life for good.. and it continues to flourish.. now that the rejects have left for good :)

JazakAllahu khair for your responses. I had peace of mind for some hours :)

There's a story in the newspaper about a women who could not have a baby, (after trying so for 4 years) The Doctors told her it's because she's got: "Polycystic ovaries and the her husbands sperm count was low" but then she goes to this place and a few weeks later she finds out she's pregnant.

Anything to do with psychology?

I'm sure the stories are authentic, the newspaper I got in my hands, have got all photographs and names on them so I'm sure it is.

Yeh I just dont get this or how it could be authentic.

The 'signs' group or whatever, the first stories may have been fabricated, to entice people who are depressed and have problems etc to the gatherings. When they leave having got 'the sign', they may think things have improved for them a lot because psychologically they feel better a lot.

All that pregnancy stuff, well she was going to fall pregnant anyway and just happened to go to this thing and so she linked the two, even though if she hadnt gone, she still would have fell pregnant..coincidence :D

I keep seeing adverts for this 'signs' mumbo jumbo everywhere, its starting to freak me out...
