Have any veiled sisters been to theme parks? If so what do you do with your veil? Going on fast rides can make your veil fly up.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what you can do?

I could pin it down but I thought maybe someone else might have a better idea.

Why would you have to stop breathing? Alhumdulillah Allah (swt) has given you lungs and breathing is autonomic, you have no control over it.

I myself never saw a problem with going to theme parks until some sisters raised the issue of freemixing. I havent really come to a conclusion. It is after all free mixing for the purpose of having fun.

The point raised IS a valid one, and one to consider not disregard.

We cant just blindly continue doing things just because we are used to a certain way of life. I know its all well and good to want to have 'fun' but theres nothing wrong with taking a step back, and actually thinking and questioning a bit.

Our first point of call is the sunnah and the women of Jannah isnt it??? How they conducted themselves and would possibly conduct themselves, is how we should conduct ourselves.

anyway I think Im too old for theme park rides :p

Yes walking in the streets is free mixing.

Sorry don't get me wrong, people get defensive far too quickly, nowhere was it stated on this thread that it isnt allowed for sisters to go theme parks. If we establish that it is freemixing for no other purpose then to have fun then it wouldn't be right for both brothers and sisters to go.

But then every action is judged according to intention. I myself am slightly confused about the issue because I do see how it is freemixing, but then at the same time I do go shopping etc. So I really don't know.

I was hoping that we could come up with some productive arguments in regards to this. I once started a thread on mixed gyms where I was completely against brothers or sisters going to them. So then I'm thinking wouldn't the same hold for theme parks? Isnt that freemixing too?

There is a difference between going to themepark and going to tesco.

We go tesco for a specific reason which is to buy cheese and onion or the limited edition charcoaled veggies with humus (no mayo) sandwitch.

Whereas we goto themepark to have fun - which may involve people watching you when you are on a ride, getting splashed, soaking wet, standing in long queues to jump on a ride which is going to scare you anyway. Than there is the grey area of hukm on rollercoasters.....

However I am not propogating whether going to theme park is halal or haram because it depends on what the theme park is, when people go there, who they go with etc and whole bunch of other factors.

also I wanted to point out that when someone says so and so is not a suitable place for a sister, by default it is also not a suitable place for a brother to be in.

Yeh exactly.

Let me share an experience. I went to southend a few years ago and decided to go on a ride. I was wearing jilbab. It was the first time I was attempting to go on one with jilbab. When everyone was seated a typical non muslim white man went around to fasten everyones seatbelts. When he got to me he found it a little awkward because of how the seatbelt was located and my jilbab was kinda in the way. So he made a rather nasty comment which I shall not repeat but basically he made a sly comment indicating he may have to lift up my 'skirt'.

After that I do not wish to sit on a ride again and undermine my integrity as a muslim woman. It wasn't necessary for me to be there.

Well, thats the thing... we put so much effort into planning our summer 'fun activities' and little attention to seeking knowledge of Islam for our day to day actions.

If one can sincerely convince themselves after seeking advice from scholars and making sure the environment is halal and it wont at all lead them to do any haram becuase the principle is 'whatever leads to haram in itself is haram', so in that case it would be permissable.

However if one has doubt in thier mind even if there is one doubtful thing in their mind they shouldnt go.

The most important thing is that when seeking permissability or prohibition for an action, we should not post on public forums but rather post on q&a websites and get the scholarly advice. Often I see poeple have already made their mind and if overwhelming response is towards the view they alread hold they jus stick to it whether its jusitified or not.

Alas, we should all seek knowledge of Islam because it is Fardh, particularly related to our day to day life and what we may face, so there is clarity in our understanding of realities and how Islam applies to them.

Lol! Bint, you didn't swear did you? :nono:

My sister (in nicaab) was walking down the street once and a man came walking towards her. She moved aside but he moved that way too! My sis thought it was a mistake so she moved again and he did again too! She was getting a bit scared and angry by now but the man just laughed and then went past.

Nasty experience. Nothings happened to me so far. Phew!

A lot of things are 'freemixing' in this dunyah, but thinking "im already doing it, this is the same" doesnt help the siutuation.
Sure i can say "I'm already working in a freemixing environment, thats the same as going to a theme park" and although to brothers and some sisters working is a necessity, for me it isnt, so using an excuse like "im already freemixing" is making the matter worse.
Rather then allowing myself to freemix because i am already doing it at work/college i should be trying to stop myself from such a thing.

Think of it like this, if someone was commiting adultry, would you say "you've already done it once havent you, its the same thing".

And as for walking down the street, i see that as a necessity i could never get out of. Allah will hold us accountable over our actions, and waking outside among men to go to the doctors, and walking/riding in theme parks among men are two totally different matters.

as salamu alaikum what about the mahram issue? i saw someone mention school trip ... without a mahram? (remember that little girl raped and killed on a school trip whilst in the same room as her sleeping classmates, or the 3 year old boy kidnapped by homosexuals whilst at a theme park with his parents and abused to death ) Allahu alam a couple of things spring to mind for example Allah tells the believing women to stay in their houses, then to the hadith where sawda radiallahhu anha the wife of rasoolallah salallahu alleyhi wa salam, after the verses of hijab were revealed went out of her house alone for her needs, and umar ibn al khatab reconised her and said (something to the effect of) shame on you going out alone, and she complained to rasoolallah salallahu alleyhi wa salam the next day when he came to see her, and he said you can go out for nesscesity. now fresh air and exercise with a mahram to accompany you, or getting groceries because you are unmarried and live alone with no one to help you, may come under nessecity but hurling yourself down a rollercoaster perhaps screaming and carrying on in an un lady like fashion, not to mention risking the wind/jilbab/niqab/khimar factor, feigning imminent death is hardly a nessecity (or is it?) Allahu alam if we obey Allah in this world we can have all the fun we like if we reach jannah insha Allah ta ala
