I have a confession to make last night whilst i was cleaning up the kitchen i found a few ants trawling along the floor so i got the hoover out and sucked them in. Do i get sin for this please
:salams
There is no confession in Islam except to your Lord...
It should not come as a surprise if we know that one of the Prophets of Isam, Suleiman (as) changed the path of his army to avoid hurting ants (Qur'aan, 27:18-19)
[27:18] Till, when they reached the Valley of the Ants, an ant exclaimed: O ants! Enter your dwellings lest Solomon and his armies crush you, unperceiving.
[27:19] And (Solomon) smiled, laughing at her speech, and said: My Lord, arouse me to be thankful for Thy favour wherewith Thou hast favoured me and my parents, and to do good that shall be pleasing unto Thee, and include me in (the number of) Thy righteous slaves.
This position towards the ants is further confirmed in a hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, that Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Prophet (saw) prohibited the killing of four creatures: "The ant, the bee, the hoopoe and the sparrow-hawk."

Find out where the ants are getting in and stick some blue-tac over the hole to stop them getting in. Insha'Allah that way you can get rid of them without hurting them. I have no idea if killing ants that are in your home is a sin or not, ask a scholar. Insects in the kitchen are usually a bad idea hygiene wise, though its a good idea to get rid of animals humanely where you can.
Any time you do something that you think is a sin, ask Allah to forgive you, make amends if you can, and try your hardest not to do it again. In Islam this is called Tawbah (repentance) - It requires you to make amends/make up for what you have done where that is possible, and to make a sincere resolution not to do the same sin again, as well as asking Allah for forgiveness. I'm sure others on this forum can give more detailed info about how to do Tawbah.

What were you gonna do otherwise? leave them to infest on the kitchen and cause a mess. In these cases they should be sucked in. Dont fret. Its not a big sin!

in florida we get tons of red ants
mounds everywhere in our yards and these ants bite and many people are allergic to their bites
my sons bites turn into huge hives and swell up like crazy
i have asked before if its ok to get rid of them around your home, but i have never gotten a real answer on this
we are told in Islam that the ants are a community that glorify Allah (swt)

Abu Hurayra related that,
"The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) forbade making animals suffer."
[Bukhari]
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
To kill animals and insects which are harmful to one's self or belongings (such as pests) is permissible.
However, maximum effort should be made to minimize the suffering and pain. There is a whole chapter in the famous Hanafi Fiqh reference Fatawa al-Hindiyya regarding the killing of animals and what may and may not be done.
Therefore, to keep traps which kill the animals is permissible, although traps which disable them or cause slow, painful death may not be kept as harming the animal and making it suffer is not permissible.
Abu Hurayra related that, "The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) forbade making animals suffer." [Bukhari]
The Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace) said, " Do not harm the creation of Allah." [Abu Dawud, from al-Ma`rur ibn Suwayd. Imam Jamal al-Din al-Zayla`i declared it to be a rigorously authenticated (sahih) hadith in Nasb al-Raya.]
This is why Ibn Hajar al-Haytami (Allah have mercy on him) mentions in his work on the major sins, al-Zawajir, that the scholars have explicitly stated that causing animals undue harm, such as hitting them painfully, without a sound reason is a major sin (kabira). al-Zawajir `an Iqtiraf al-Kaba'ir, 2.140]
And only Allah knows best.

Does suckin' ants in a vaccuum cleaner kill the ants? Its not like they're gonna be churned to pieces.
Ants can survive under the earth, so their rights won't be breached if they reside amongst other rubbish. they'll soon find their way out in the waste dumps.
Ants can fall off a 3ft table and still survive. They're very resilient.
