I noticed that Wikipedia has an entry for Ummah forums and it has a little about the history too...
The Islamic website Ummah.com, formerly the Islamic Gateway, is best known for the Ummah Forum, one of the biggest Islamic forums on the Internet. With over 17,000 members and 1 million posts, it is also one of the Internet's top 1000 largest forums [1]. Ummah.com is based in the UK, as are the majority of its voluntary contributors and active forum users. It is fully owned by Waha Media Limited, a not-for-profit company, and is financed entirely through donations.
