View Full Version : Problem with CD rom...plz immediate Help require

:confused: Salam Alikum to All

I have some problem with CD rom. When i insert the cd it is not running and seems system gets freez for few minutes. i tried to run using start/run/ but still not use. and it is also showing error msg: (please insert the disk in the drive) even disk is inside the drive. I checked the properties of the device in Device Manager it is showing :(your device is working properly).

I tried to run both audio, video and even simple cds having programs. I bought new graphics cds and i want to install some programs but now im not able to do it.

i dont know what is wrong with it..can any one help me.

Salams,

I presume your CD ROM has worked previously!?
Have you tried re-starting your System?!?!
can you Right Click on CD ROM drive in My Computer.. and see if you can Exlore the CD?

if non of these work.. i would say your CD Rom Drive is most likely corrupted.. i would open the computer and see if teh IDE canle is still in place properly!

Open the case.... and look at the back of the CD ROM drive.. it will have a sall socket... with 4 wires.. (yelllow, Red n blac)k.. that is the power..
and a THIN long cable... that is the IDE Cable.. make sure that is plugged in properly!

If it all looks correct.. replace the CD ROM drive with another drive..
its prolly gone bust!!

for your first quest yes before everything was working

properly but it is almost few months back. i don't use CD

rom on regular bases.


When i R-click to explore the cds i get the same problem

..system freezes for few minutes and shows My Computer

isn't responding.

Some cds which have autorun they run but by chance and

they also give some times error. but the cds which we

have to open manually and explore they r not responding

at all and gives error like Insert cd. I've checked with

almost 6 - 7 cds, get same error.. and im sure cds are ok

..

is it possible to uninstall the driver? but from where i can

download driver again?

Yep...I had this problem many times, but with a floppy drive.

Open up your case, check all wires from the computer to the CD.

But in my case, I ended up getting a new floppy drive in the end...So it doesn't look good....:(

ok, this may sound stupid, and i apologise- (but it is usually the simple things)
but have you tried cleaning the lens?

get a cd lens cleaner- v.cheap, can buy at most electrical shops.

if some cds occasionally work and others don't, then its a probablya problem with the lens, so if the cleaning doesn't work then you most likely need a new cd-rom drive unfortunately:(

My DVD Rom Drive Gives Me The same Problem Akhi,Where Is The Lens That Must be Cleaned?

the "lens cleaner" is just a cd, with small brushes on the bottom, that you put in the cd drive and play it for a little while, and it automatically cleans the lens

you usually can't access the lens in a cd-rom/dvd-rom drive.

i had a cd lens cleaner but was not using it from last 2 years and you just reminded it. i searched my whole cds collection and i found it and runned it. and it worked

rest of the guys Guvna and Iqram thanks for your suggestions ill keep them in mind may be next time i would need them.
