I have and they're crap.

I pay £42 per month for the interactive service. That includes line rental, free local / national calls and up to 8MB broadband.

I can't wait til I'm out of contract in 4 months when I can leave the incompetent.

My broadband continually d/c in the evenin' more or less every day, sometimes have to reboot to get broadband connection. Its a nuisance, not gettin' much of a service for a service that I pay for.

I used exactly the same set-up - hardware with Pipex and they were solid.

Bulldog Broadband? More like Bullsh!t Broadband.

For a speed test, go to http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp

The results of my Bullsh!t Broadband speed test are:

Downstream 1,083.7 Kbps ( = 1.1 Mbps ) Upstream 483.4 Kbps ( = 0.5 Mbps )

Its never the speed you think you're gettin' with any ISP. a 2MB connection doesn't mean you're gettin' 2MB d/l speeds. It's more like 20% of that. The contention ratio is 1:40 (industry standard) - there are other ppl who are sharin' your broadband line.

Do a speedtest and post the results here.

I can in theory download a 4MB MP3 in 4 secs ;)

Actually i use Broadband and im getting a excellent service, would recomend it to all

but there is a catch, if you use Bulldog internet make sure you use a FIREWALL! Personally i would recomend "Webroot" because its free :D

I know the disconnections you are talking about, that used to happen to me too and i would have to reboot 3 times just to load Google! :( , its not actually the fault of Bulldog company, whats happening here is that your Broadband box is "always on" and that means its gets polluted and bombarded with trojan programs all the time!

If you have Bulldog internet already, and are finding your connection is REALLY slow or your getting disconected, try these 2 things and then tell me if it worked... ;)

1) Download Webroot Firewall here, http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/
(click FREE trial)

2) Download AdAware anti-spyware program FREE,
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

First install the firewall, and turn it on. Then install Adaware and do a system scan, delete all the junk (you will be suprised trust me! ;)) then reboot your PC and happy surfing inshallah!

for bulldog thts rubbish..i thought they was supposed to be 8mb?Salaam,

You don't get a full 8mb down/up stream - Alot of people are misled by the figures thinking they will actually get the full blow downstream speeds.

Anyway, if you want to workout how much you can download divide the number by 8. So, the average download speed for an 8mb connection is:

8/8 = 1mb/s

For a 1mb connection:

1/8 = 0.125 (125Kb/s)

For a 2mb connection:

2/8 = 0.25 (250Kb/s)

That gives you equal up/down stream. Its aimed more at businesses so I don't know if you'll be-able to get it - Its expensive too.

Is your upload with ntl 128k or something? Most services provide 256k (around 32kb/s).

salams,

Emel.. jack SDSL.. blerd thats like serious ripp off jobs! ima talking like 130 Quid per month!!!

hence the reason its not been widely taken up!
you're best bet is to ring the ISP's and ask them what they offer.. and compare what they say with peoples tests here!

13-05-06, 03:00 PM
Emel,

If your cool with 256k upload then most broadband services offer that. Or you can contact them and see what more they can offer.

Guv: I agree. SDSL is a total ripp off. BT charge £600 just to set-up.

There wasnt any monthly contracts when i was with bulldogbroadband, there should'nt be.

Since the turn of the year, they've held u in on 6 month contracts. They were meant to owe me 2 months free, but they still kept billin' me... I think I've been over-charged too in recent months come to think of it.. i'll have to investigate.

'Cos their customer service is crap, it takes 'bout 10 mins to get through to a rep, it kinda puts me off contactin' them.

Their billin' is done thru email, n its difficult to make sense of what they charge for and what they don't.

I wanted to cancel my contract immediately but they said I agreed to 6 months. I replied that they're weren't providin' me a service either, so I they in breach of contract too.

Eventually the woman talked me into contactin' technical support to talk through the problem.

I don't think NTL is any better. They've been the worst company for like years.

Amazing how fast broadband speed is progressing, I remember when I had
28k connection and that was slow I musy admit, but then upgraded to NTL 128k service and now have the 2mb and now that seems slow. In 3 months time everyone will probably be upgrading to 50 mb connection, when will we ever be satisfied

I'm with UKOnline, broadband 2 MB, and I have never had any problem with my connection.

My speed test:

Speed Test Results

Downstream 1,854.1 Kbps ( = 1.8 Mbps )

Upstream 241.7 Kbps ( = 0.2 Mbps )
