View Full Version : hijab or hott or not during the summer? i say NOT

Quest

Ok i meant Hijab hot or not during the summer! (how come we cant edit titles?)

anyways.

Few summers back, on what was the hottest day of the summer, i walked into bank, it was empty just two non muslims sitting at the windows, a man and a woman

i walked up to the man, and gave him (whatever) he seems to be staring, i looked up and he looks down, finaly he says

"can i ask you something" i said ok he says "are you not hot in that"
i was annoyed thinking give it a rest heard it all before, so i said "No!" he asks is the material
thin" (he is referring to my face veil this when i use to wear the nicab)

by now i thought oh he really is curious so i said "yes"
he said ok and went to get my money, i then said "tell me something" he said "shoot"

Quest ..> "if one was exposed to extreme heat, do not the wise amongst us take shade?" he replies "yes"(by now the lady is listening to the conversation with a smile on her face)

i continue "so you agree its only the foolish who expose them selves to the heat?" he laughed and said "i guess so" the lady starts laughing such a drama queen began clapping (i think they knew where i was going with this) she says " Smart woman!"

the man says "you make a valid point but how do u relate it to yourself"i replied "to the naked eye i appear hot, truth is i get more shade then the naked yet dressed individual, why do u think even way before ISLAM both arabian men and women wore big robes in the dessert? its to take cover from the heat, only the foolish expose themselves to the sun light thinking they are less getting less hot"
they both seemed like nice people, they bid me fare well and i left .
here is the reason why i remembered this

a sister was telling me this earliar

Quote KC

"the hijab protects us muslim women,like the skin of the banana protects it's sweet n soft content

there is this incident that happened on a bus:

this muslim somali woman with a big jalbaab,covered from top to bottom<<==mashallah,boarded the bus,this kaffir gal sits next to her,the gal was eating icecream n it was summer,she asked the muslim woman in sarcastic way,"aren't u hot,?"the muslim woman did not reply,the gal continued with her mocking words,n laughed with her friends,then a health worker approached the somali woman n asked her where she got her jilbaab from,the somali lady was suprised,the health said she would like to put on the jalbaab because the sun was too hot,coz she was educated she understood that the jalbaab was actually cooling the somali lady n not making her feel hot!n that it also prevented some skin diaseases obtained from the rays of the sunlight, che bella! "

And ALLAH does not burden a soul for more then it can bear.

but dont you wish you could feel the wind in your hair or your face ? And what about healthy skin needing fresh air and sunlight ? We got vitamin D from sunlight and its necessary for bones. before anyone jumps and says it, I dont mean bikini clad women in beaches and the like.

vitamin D is no problem. you can get it in meat and many other stuff.
you get children who dont wear niqaab gettin rickets due to vitamin D deficiency.
and women also can get osteomalacia due to vitamin D deficiency. dont give me nonsense please because your argument is not valid.

fresh air ? lol just because you wear niqaab it aint as if you dont breath in air . you can still breathe.
stop being narrow minded please.

It wasnt an argument, I was curious. What I asked was wether you never thought you might want feel less constricted. Of course you can breathe, or else you would end up dead. I was talking about skin. My reason for thinking the way I did:

Finally, vitamin D is produced in the skin when we are exposed to
sunlight. Without vitamin D our bones weaken, and we could die. We can
get
artificial vitamin D from food supplements, such as fortified milk, but
the natural way is to get it from sunlight. So, our skin needs to be in
air, if only to be exposed to sunlight. However, too much sunlight and
w e got a sunburn ?which isnt good either.

However, you may have your own reasons for thinking the way you did, or maybe know more then I do on the subject at the moment.

yeah I think I saw that white one in Arabian nite... even beige and light green, light blue etc which some sisters have, seems ideal :up:
if u dnt see them made in the shops u can always get the material n have them made up altho its hassle.
But even black, if its thin it can b ok cos the breeze will blow around u n circulate so its ok :up: get the khaleeji ones, if u go to scarf house in holloway at the back on the left, they have these thinner khaleeji ones (not thin as in see thru) its quite good for spring and summer but they are all black though

white niqaab would reflect the heat away because its white.
black absorbs heat so you would obviously feel hotter in a black niqaab.
i only seen 1 person wearing a white niqaab in this country. and that was last week.

lool@bush under neck what a way to put it!!!!!!!

i know a sister who makes abayahs that will put suadi ones to shame,
every time she does one for me, people assume i paid 40 50 pounds, what are they crazy? me spend that much on clothes i would feel guilty (unless its a jacket or shoes lol)
^ just playing.

i buy my material for a pound a meter, take it to her, she takes my measurements, i then pay her like a tenner, this woman is really good, she will make me a plain abayah which is to good for words, if i had this sisters talent i would quit my day job, she is amazing and learnt the skill thru observation alone.

am on my way to take her 3 now, plus this morocan style one which was to short i want it altered. GOD BLESS HER HANDS. i travel from south just to get to her! shes worth it.

why do they make most abayahs in shops short? sheesh am 5'8 almost 9, they should give us tall sisters a break!

Fabric will make a large difference as well. Not only is there the weight of the fabric to consider, but the content. Synthetic fibers are out, they don't breathe, or not that well. Silk is a great insulator, but remember that most people aren't comfortable when the external temp is body temp. Wool, if thin or fine enough, can be cool. Cotton is great, but it is best for arid climates, if you live in an area that is humid, it can get uncomfortable. Linen on the other hand breathes very well. Sometimes it breathes too well, it can feel too cool at times with a bit of wind in the summer. Combinations of various fibres are also available, just remember that wash and care of those fibres may be different. :up:

you mite aswell say being a woman encourages attention!

its ridiculous why shouldnt women wear white? in fact any colour, blacks not the only colour known to mankind.

infact the two colours favoured by the prophet (may allahs peace and blessings be upon him) were green and white.

somewhere, at somepoint in time, some man decided that black is the only color muslim women can wear:rolleyes:

the problem we have today uktii is the ummah is lacking wisdom big time, they focus to much on what size the miswak should be, or what color the hijab, even worse some sisters are quick to criticise other sisters whom wear a certain length hijab, so much so that ones iman is measured thru the length of the garment!

Islam says do not draw attention to your selfs, so the women should use her logic to determine whats to bright and whats not, see now green hijabs is great but illuminate lime oh no, see my point? we should use our system of reasoning to determine what not.

now if everyone is in bright colors thru out summer and the muslima is in jet black she will draw attention to herself, though there is nothing wrong with black, i personaly love dark colors, am just saying i disagree with those whom say its fard! if not by tongue by actions they do!

the hijab has conditions
let it not

* be transparent
* extravagent
* imitating the kufar fashion

let it

* cover the chest atleast or
*wear it head to toe
*let it not draw attention

ok focusing on the last one my understanding is, over the top beaded hijabs which sparkle and what not is defintely drawing attention
however color is not unless its extreme (key word extreme)

i see sisters critisise hijabs the same color as this sad face...>:(
to me thats not bright these are bright..> * * * *

the pinky one is debatable but according to me its bright.
