Do you know where you go or what happens when you die
Do you lie still in the grave or go somewhere in the sky
Have you prepared for the journey that we’ll all make one day
And when it comes to judgement time what will you have to say
Have you packed with you your good deeds how will the scales weigh
Or did you backbite your brother and give them all away
Our destination is certain there is a choice of one or two
We’ll earn paradise or the fire for what we used to do
Have you thought about what you must do to enter into paradise
And when you do something wrong do you stop and think twice
Think about your deeds, do they weigh up good or bad
When you think about your history does it make you feel sad
Do you walk around arrogantly standing proud and tall
Do you think you will not meet your Lord, if not yours is the fall!
Or do you lower your gaze with modesty keeping your eyes upon the ground
And if you are of the chaste insha’Allah to heaven you’ll be bound
Are you lazy with your salah and rush it through in haste
What is more important that your reward should go to waste
When you truly know what is required why is it such a chore
If we were of the pious we’d do good more and more
It’s so easy to give sound advice but not to heed it for oneself
But on that day it’s only you and there’ll be nobody else
Tomorrow may never come for you so heed these words today
Remember and exalt your Lord get on your knees and pray
Pray that he forgives you for all your wrongs and your trangressions
Pray that He is Merciful the Day you lose all your possessions
Pray that He grants you Taqwa so you might be aware
And pray He grants you refuge on the day you will be bare
So prepare for the journey that we’ll all make one day
And pack with you your good deeds how will the scales weigh
There’s nothing in between just a choice of one or two
We’ll earn paradise or the fire for what we used to do
Salam I wrote this just after I became Muslim 5 years ago...
I hope you like it.
Also, I'd love to try to publish an anthology of Islamic poetry, maybe Ummah forum would be willing to run a competition and then publish the best...hmm!?
Tell me what you think insha'Allah.
