Salam, just wondered what people thought about sisters wearing caps under their hijaabs? Not to start a fashion, but as an alternative to wearing sunglasses, cos some sisters look funny in sunglasses. I'm not talking about something blatent, something subtle that matches the colour of your scarf etc...
If you're a sis would you do it?
Do you think it will draw too much attention?
Is it too weird?
Is it practical?
I would love to hear your thoughts insha'Allah
Go down Edgeware Road one day, you will see the weird and wonderful...

I remember a sis on ummah said she did that all the time when she was in Palestine and out in the sun all the time. I suppose if it helps you in whatever you're doing, go for it.
But then you may get a half-face tan.. as opposed to the face-only tan that us hijaabi's get during summers :p

yeah, i'm just wondering whether to brave it down green street lol! i doubt if i will, i'd feel too self concious, ppl would think i was trying to start a fashion but if i knew there were other sisters out there who'd do it i might consider it more...hmm more input...

be brave with your opinions inshallah, a thousand other sisters out there may be thinking the same thing as you - if you want to do it, do it :)

in winter i wear a cap over my hijaab sometimes, sometimes to match my hijaab as it warms my ears and is a good cold detterrent, i find these styles really complement hijaabs and its looks nice too

in summer though i wear sunglasses its ablsoutley horrid finding sunglassess :freedom: as to suit the hijaab its very difficult. I went to debenhams last week and spend a good 1 1/2 hours finind a pair i was about to give up but with the help of a sales assistant found a good pair thats suited my face and hijaab, you just gotta be patient :) (http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/6-panel-Herringbone/p/2000000003868/3000000150811/bg/1001602908.htm)
Caps under hijaabs????
Nahh....Ive never tried that....I cant imagine it looking very  ....
How does the hijaab go over  ...
and when you get inside, how do you take it off  ...I assume you have to take off your hijaab first  ....
I would just stick to some nice sunglasses....---->

Yeh it's not uncommon to see hijaabi's with other headgear. I know a sis who often wears hats on top of her hijaab (much of them like the second pic m85 put up) and stuff.
One colour hat, lighter colour headscarf tied at back of neck, darker scarf matching hat around the neck. Sometimes I've seen sisters do this and wear dangly earrings (without ears showing).. matching jackets, skirts and boots..
Many Somali sisters in Brum seem to be very colour co-ordinated :D
Man, I dunno how sisters can put so much effort into an outfit though. Imagine the amount of stuff you have to buy to be all co-ordinated and "stylish" or whatever. But I must admit it looks good and the sisters I've seen with funky hijaab styles do look pretty cool and fair play, they're all covered and stuff so I don't think there's anything wrong with being a bit different and making a bit more effort if it tickles your fancy.
Good old black hijaab and jilbaab is much easier and simpler though :p

Well it really depends on the shape of someones face and the kind of scarf your wearing, personally i wouldn't wear it as many of the kufrs would think that i am ' a sad git' lol nd also it would drag attention nd abt sunglasses they do suit very nice xcept only if someone was wearing a tight scarf nd then they go wearing those big stylish sglasses tht would look too U~G~L~Y but if the person was wearing a tight scarf nd smaller framed glasses i think it would give em a more natural look  BTW if u dnt mind me asking r u a sis or a bro? :1peace:

No i just wear sunglasses cos they suit me more then a cap does
But erm, why not wear the cap over the hijaab instead of under it? :S
hmm...i think it'd be quite uncomfortable...wouldnt it be easier to wear the hat over your hijaab? or if you wear your hijaab abit forward it'll provide good sun protection :D
i don't even like wearing sunglasses with my hijaab...and walk around in the summer with my eyes closed

Salam ladies, thanks for all your responses, yeah over would probably make much more sense, lol, silly me. I've tried sunglasses, I guess they look ok, but I hate it when it makes your scarf kinda look square at the ears where the arms of the glasses go under the scarf. I love my plain old black hijab and jilbab too, and the cap (my husbands!) is one of those kinda tight caps, not the sports style, and it's black and when I tried it I thought it was really subtle, hmm, we'll just have to see how I feel when the sun really comes out.
I'd post a pic but I'm not allowed, cos then you'd get more of an idea of what I mean.
Never mind, ps can anyone tell me what's happened to chat?

i saw a sister who lives near me with a hijaab with the ends pinned over her face kinda like a make shift niqaab so just one eye showed and she had a cap on her head to hold it in place,
it looked kinda odd but Allhumdulilah my sister was doing her best to please Allah may He reward her well and make it easy for me.

Almost half way to my hundred!
If they're trying to avoid bro n sis mixing, why do they make it so hard to get into the sister section?!
Any responses on the chat?

This is standard in Malaysia - something to do with Shafi'i fiqh, I think. Anyway, stops your hair poking out and giving you the 'Begum look.':D
