Becuase as bint said, it is a Sunnah of Rasululah SAW. Theres a hadith where rasululah SAW said:"Allah will not look, on the Day of Resurrection, at a person who drags his Izar (behind him) out of pride and arrogance."

Personally I would not allow my wife to wear the niqaab, and thankfully she has no interest in doing so.
I don't think the niqab is necessary and I do not wear the face-veil myself but I have enormous respect for the women who cover their faces. To force your wife to put on the nikab isn't right and likewise it is EQUALLY wrong if you force her not to.
It's only her decision.

It's not something bad and it is something you are doing out of the love and fear of Allah(swt) and if that did happen then you should explain why it is important!

what if your husband tells you to NOT wear niqaab?
depends on his reason for doing so. Sometimes, niqab does draw attention to a sister, if she is in an area where there are a lot of non-muslims, and she may get dirty looks and abuse. For that reason, i can see why a husband may want his wife to not wear one.
It depends really, it is not obligatory, its upto the individual sister. A husband should be supportive of his wife if she wants to though.

SO WHAT IF HE IS MUSLIM?
Is he obligated to ask or want his wife to wear niqaab?
My father is Muslim he does not want my mother to wear it nor does she want to. Should he too be subjected to abuse like br Abu Noah? I think not! Fair enough to those who want their wifes to wear it. Some don't! Being Muslim and not wanting your wife to wear niqaab if she does not want to is NOT a sin.

Some don't! Being Muslim and not wanting your wife to wear niqaab if she does not want to is NOT a sin.
please refrain from callous name calling and grow up. Not everyones views are the same.
Peoples lack of respect to other users, especially Muslim brothers and sisters is beyond me :S
whoa whoa whoa whoa!!!! i totally wan't trying to be mean to him!!!!! (brother, please forgive me if you thought i was!!!) i was simply trying to say that i didn't know why he didn't want her to wear one- as in he never gave a reason...
but whatever... its not my problem, i suppose...
I think people are forgetting something here. How about this hint: Is allah pleased with a believing woman just because she wears something across her face, or does allah become pleased with her because she is covering herself from ghair mehram? ;)
