halal meat

is it okay to say bismillah before eating meat if you CANNOT find either halal or kosher meat. i read this somewhere, but i'm not sure where.

No you say bismillah before you slaughter the meat.
Im not sure about eating any meat, but i know if halal meat is not available then kosher or meat from the christians is permissable for us to eat.

Different opinions on this one. I think it's only a prerequisite in the Hanafi madhab; it's only recommended in the others from what I remember.

Check suratul maidah and supporting texts.

For example if you hunt using dogs, falcons, arrows, rifles, then the animal may well die before you reach it.

Many ancient texts talk of one of the criteria being eating meat from those whose women it is permissable to marry, with reference to suratul maidah.

...remember halal simply means permissable.
