First Khutbah

O slaves of Allaah! (The word) Al-Islaam is mentioned (as a religion) in the Qur’aan in two senses: general and specific. The general one comprises every nation that followed any prophet whom Allaah sent among them; thus, they are Muslims, Hunafaa’ (i.e., proclaiming pure Islaamic monotheism) according to the religion of Abraham, peace be upon him, by worshipping Allaah alone and following the set of laws whoever He sent amongst them came with. Allaah says which means, “Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allaah is Islaam…,” (Aal-‘Imraan: 19) and also, "And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, ‘There is no deity except Me, so worship Me.’" (Al-Anbiyaa’: 25)

Hence, the basis of the religions of all the prophets was one – the Oneness of Allaah – while their principles and laws were different. Allaah says which means, "…To each of you We prescribed a law and a method…" (Al-Maa’idah: 48) Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “The Prophets are brothers of different origins; their mothers are different, but their religion is one.” (Bukhaari)

However, the specific meaning (of Al-Islaam) can only be applied to those who testify that there is no God but Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam is the Messenger of Allaah. Islaam, in this special meaning, which Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam came with, overruled all past laws and annulled them. So, whoever believes in it, believes in Allaah and His messengers, and whoever disbelieves in it, then he disbelieves in Allaah and His messengers. Allaah says which means, “Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allaah and His messengers and wish to discriminate between Allaah and His messengers and say, We believe in some and disbelieve in others, and wish to adopt a way in between – Those are the disbelievers, truly…” (An-Nisaa’: 150-151) The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “Whoever testifies that there is no God but Allaah alone and He has no partner, that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger; that ‘Eesa is His slave and Messenger, as well as His word and Spirit which He sent down to Maryam; and that Paradise is a reality and Hell is real, Allaah will admit him to Paradise regardless of his deeds.” (Bukhaari & Muslim)

O slaves of Allaah! It is from the requirements of this faith to believe that there is no middle way – there is either Islaam or infidelity; and there is no way to reach Paradise and be rescued from Hell except by following the path of our Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and by embracing Islaam. Any other path will lead to the Hellfire. Our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “(I swear) by Him in Whose Hands my soul is! Anyone who hears about me among the Jews or Christians and dies without believing in me and what I was sent with, then he will be in the Hellfire.” (Muslim)

Then, believing brothers, after (knowing) this, how can we say that Judaism, Christianity and Islaam are all paths leading to Allaah?

O slaves of Allaah, believing brothers, followers of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam! Few years ago, arose a sinful call supported by some Muslim men, scholars and preachers, regrettably; this corrupt appeal is for interfaith, in favor of which spectacular but deceptive slogans were coined, such as ‘religious brotherhood’, ‘Islaamic-Christian friendship’, ‘unity of the three religions’ and the so-called ‘global religion’. This call was so active and extensive that the Pope even held a collective prayer between representatives of the three (major) religions – Islaam, Judaism and Christianity – in a village in Italy, on October 27, 1986. This prayer called ‘the Prayer of the Holy Ghost’ was the first time a disbeliever led a Muslim in prayer. By performing it, the Pope presented himself to the world as the spiritual leader of all religions and the carrier of the message of ‘international peace’ to humanity. He later announced the twenty-seventh of October to be a holiday for all religions.

O slaves of Allaah, the followers of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam! The call for interfaith is one for the elimination of religious differences between people, so that there is no such thing as a believer and an infidel and that they all come under the banner of the ‘unity of brotherhood of mankind’. The propagators of this idea call for the necessity of printing the Torah, Gospel and Qur’aan under one cover, and for building a mosque, church and synagogue in one place.

This appeal was imparted to the Muslim countries, some of which were totally fascinated by it and penned in support of it. Many advocated it in their speeches and considered it the main item in their agendas during international conferences and in formal and public clubs.

O slaves of Allaah, the followers of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam! This ominous call has effects that are strong enough to shake the Islaamic belief inside the hearts of Muslims and make them end up in the lowest depths of the Fire. Some of these consequences are:
1. Destruction of the Creed of Allegiance and Renunciation among Muslims and the removal of anything named ‘religion’ from the Muslim’s belief.
2. Considering the ideology of infidels to be correct and remaining silent over it.
3. Allowing people to embrace Judaism or Christianity as a personal choice, without any prohibitions.
4. Deeming there to be no difference between Muslims and non-Muslims – the basis of the struggle between truth and falsehood.
5. Considering Islaam just like the other distorted religions; that there is no difference whether one follows it or not and that it has no distinction above other religions.
6. Destruction of Islaam in the hearts of its followers because whoever is satisfied with or calls towards interfaith, distorts his own religion while the others hold on to their beliefs as they are the ones urging for interfaith.
7. Discontinuation of Da’wah (preaching) towards Islaam, because whenever a Muslim wants to preach towards his religion, he is religiously obliged to show how astray others are. If a Muslim does not do so and is satisfied by embracing other religions, then he is no longer a preacher towards Islaam, which Allaah sent down upon His Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.
8. Paving the way for Christianity to spread freely in the lands of Muslims.
O slaves of Allaah! The recent visit of the Pope to Syria, the country alive with Tawheed (the Oneness of Allaah) and whose minarets chant the Adhaan (call to prayer), and his visit to the Umayyad Mosque, which is a stronghold of Islaam, is certainly one element of this call. Moreover, his plea, may Allaah give him what he deserves, addressed to the various religious groups in Syria for the necessity of living in peace is merely nothing more than a clear, actually impudent, call for interfaith and the principle of ‘human-religious brotherhood’.

Sadly, a lot of undignified Muslims will consider this ominous visit of the Pope, ‘the symbol of international peace’, as an opportunity for shedding light on the events taking place in Palestine nowadays; those poor people wish that he would take a constructive stand towards what is happening to the Palestinians because of the Jews. They have evidently forgotten that this Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and alongside him are the callers for interfaith, the offspring of those who made the Inquisition tribunals occur in Spain and committed the bloodiest and worst acts of torture against Muslims; they are the sons of those who are responsible for well-known massacres throughout old and modern history; they are the children of those who committed the massacre of ‘Ma'arrat An-Nu'maan’; they are the grandsons of those who led the Crusades against the Eastern Islaamic countries, in which thousands of Muslims were slaughtered and countless numbers of women and children were captured as slaves.

They are also the ones who are behind the collective massacres in Bosnia and Herzegovina; they have committed such crimes which cannot be described properly by any word from dictionaries of all languages. They are those who perpetrated the massacres in Kosovo, Indonesia and Chechnya; they are the sons of those who exalted the massacre in Sabra and Shatila, who glorified the massacre of the Al-Haram Al-Ibraaheemy (the Sacred Mosque of Abraham in Jerusalem), approved of the bombings of the Palestinian camps, supported the child-killers and lauded the killers of Muhammad Al-Durrah and the poor Palestinian infant Eemaan Hajjoo. Can those murderous wolves then, be expected to be a cause of mercy?

What urged the Pope for this visit was that he was not completely satisfied with merely looting the lands of Muslims; he wanted them to lose their religion as well, and thus make them lose (in) this world and (in) the Hereafter. Allaah says which means: “And never will the Jews and the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion. Say, ‘Indeed, the guidance of Allaah is the [only] guidance.’ If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allaah no protector or helper.” (Al-Baqarah: 120)

The essence of the call for interfaith is to confine the Islaamic expansion and contain it; to remove faith from the hearts of Muslims and bury it; to untie the Islaamic bonds throughout the Muslim world and to replace it with the cursed brotherhood with the Jews and Christians; and, to halt the Muslim tongues and pens from declaring Judaism and Christianity and other sects that do not believe in Islaam, as infidels.

Yet, we must name them infidels as Allaah has called them so, when He says which means, “They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allaah is Christ, the son of Mary…,” (Al-Maa’idah: 17) and “They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘Allaah is the third of three [referring to the Christian concept of Trinity]’…,” (Al-Maa’idah:17) He also says which means, “Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.” (Al-Bayyinah: 6)

It is indeed a call to prevent Muslims from (practicing) the highest peak of Islaam – Jihaad(i.e., fighting) for Allaah's sake. Allaah says which means, “Fight those who do not believe in Allaah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allaah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth [i.e., Islaam] from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah [a tax required of non-Muslims living under the protection of an Islaamic government] willingly while they are humbled.” (At-Tawbah: 29)

Second Khutbah

O slaves of Allaah, the followers of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam! The call for interfaith is a call for infidelity with which there can be no trace of faith. The judge 'Iyaadh, may Allaah have mercy on him, said: “We label all of those who embrace any other religion except Islaam, disbelievers. He who does not consider them so, or doubts they are infidels, or considers their beliefs to be correct, then even if he appears to be a Muslim and believes in Islaam while embracing other faiths as well, we call him a disbeliever because of what he demonstrates of believing in other religions.”

Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy on him, said: “It is commonly known in the religion of Islaam, and by agreement of all Muslims, that whoever allows the acceptance of any religion other than Islaam or the following of the Sharee’ah (jurisprudence) of other than Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, then he is an infidel; it is like the same infidelity of those who believe in some verses of Qur’aan and disbelieve in other parts of it.”

It is obligatory upon all Muslims to be aware of their enemies’ plots. Let every Muslim who testifies that there is no God but Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam is His Messenger, know that there is no link or accord between Muslims and the People of the Book from the Jews and Christians, unless they fulfill the condition that Allaah mentioned in His Book, when He says which means, “Say, ‘O People of the Scripture! Come to a word that is equitable between us and you – that we will not worship except Allaah and not associate anything wit Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allaah.’ But if they turn away, then say, ‘Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]’,” (Aal ‘Imraan: 64) and, “Say, [O Muhammad!] ‘O mankind! Indeed I am the Messenger of Allaah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death.’ So believe in Allaah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allaah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.” (Al-A’raaf: 158)

O slaves of Allaah! How can we be satisfied with the call of the Catholic Pope for the necessity of finding points of agreement between Islaam and Christianity in order to reach a peaceful way of living between the followers of the two religions and to create brotherly ties among both of them? O followers of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam! Can an agreement be reached with those who attribute lies to Allaah, for they claim that Jesus, peace be upon him, is the son of God? Allaah says which means, “And they say, ‘The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son.’ You have done an atrocious thing. The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation. That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son. And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son. There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant. He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting. And all of them are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.” (Maryam: 88-95)

Therefore, Muslims must reject this theory – the theory of interfaith – and the unity of any and every fabricated and abrogated religion with the religion of Islaam, the true religion of Allaah which He preserved from falsification and alteration, and which abrogates (all) other religions before it.

It is a call for a theory of hypocrisy and dissension, and a call to get Muslims out of (the fold of) Islaam. Indeed, there is nothing after Islaam except infidelity and there is nothing after guidance except error. Let those people know that Islaam is the religion of moderation and Muslims are witnesses over all nations on the Day of Judgment; Allaah says which means, “And thus We have made you a median [i.e., just] community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you…” (Al-Baqarah: 143)

This is the religion that Allaah has chosen for us, as He says which means, “…This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion…” (Al-Maa’idah: 3)

It is the religion that He will never accept a substitute for – “And whoever desires other than Islaam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.” (Aal-‘Imraan: 85)

Muslims should remove any and all grounds of cordiality and friendship between them and the infidels. Allaah says which means, “O you who have believed! do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you – then indeed, he is [one of] them. Indeed, Allaah guides not the wrongdoing people.” (Al-Maa’idah: 51)

The Muslims must, nevertheless, sustain their efforts of Da’wah (preaching), which is obligatory, and spread the religion of Allaah to all of mankind with wisdom and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way which is best. Allaah says which means, “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best…,” (An-Nahl: 125) and “And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, ‘We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your god is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.’” (Al-‘Ankaboot: 46)
