MUSIC IN ISLAM
Introduction
In recent years, certain developments have taken place which has brought the subject of music as an extremely significant issue. Music has spread to such an extent that it is afflicting every muslim in this modern era. Today, individuals are being confronted by a situation where one is forced to listen to music whether by choice or without. Music is played in nearly all department stores and super markets. Even whilst walking in the streets, we find cars blaring with music. No matter which direction we go, we are blasted with music. The increasing popularity of music, which is prevalent in our society poses a tremendous danger for muslims.
Music is Haraam
References within the context of the Holy Qur`aan along with the Hadith of the Prophet confirm that music is haraam.
Interpreters of the Qur`aan have defined the term `lahwal hadith` which is mentioned in the Qur`aan as:
1) Singing and listening to songs.
2) Purchasing of male and female singers.
3) Purchase of instruments of fun and amusement.
When Sayyidana Abdullah Ibne Mas`ood , a very close companion of our Prophet was asked about the meaning of the term `lahwal hadith`, he replied
“I swear by Him besides whom there is no other God,that it refers to ghinaa (singing ).”
This statement, he repeated three times. This view is unanimously supported by the four Khalifas, the eminent Sahabaah, Tabi`een, the four Imaams and other reliable Islaamic scholars and authorities.
One hadith from the Bukhari Shareef, the most authentic Book of Hadith, further confirms unlawfulness of music and singing :
`There will be people of my Ummah who will seek to make lawful; fornication, wine-drinking and the use of ma`aazif ( musical instruments ).`
Detailed analysis of the arabic word `ma`aazif ` shows that it refers to musical instruments, the sounds of those musical instruments and singing with the accompaniment of instruments.
Closer analysis of the wordings of the Hadith establishes the prohibition of music. Firstly, the words `seek to make lawful ` shows that music is not permissible, as logically one can only seek to make lawful that which is not allowed. Secondly, if music was not prohibited, then it would not have been brought within the same context as fornication and wine-drinking.
MUSIC - IT`S EFFECTS
Muslims are aware that nothing has been prohibited by Allah except that which is harmful to the welfare of a Muslim individual and the society as a whole. The divine attribute behind the prohibition of music can be comprehended by looking into the diverse influence music can have.
Experiments carried out by doctors and professors have confirmed that the music of today is such that it does not only affect the brain, but each and every organ of one`s body. There is a close relationship between music and bodily movements. We find that people listening to music automatically start tapping their fingers and feet, as if the music is permeating in their blood.
It is also proved that music affect`s one`s emotions, increases arousal in terms of alertness and excitement and also leads to various physiological changes in the person. In a psychology experiment, it was found that listening to moderate type of music increased one`s normal heart beat, whilst listening to rock music the heart beat increased even further, yet people claim that music has no effect.
It is a very ignorant and misguided attitude to percieve music as a form of pleasure and passing of time, since the messages of today`s music follow a general theme of love, fornication, drugs and freedom.
We find that the whole world is obsessed with the kufr idea of freedom, i.e. freedom of speech, freedom of movement, etc. In western schools and universities, we observe independence, free expression and secular thinking being encouraged. This idea of freedom, “ It`s my life, I`ll do what I want” is a predominant, underlying theme of today`s music. It is being used as a means for drilling western ideologies, which are totally contrary to Islamic Shariah and values, into the minds of Muslims.
One should abstain from evil audacities such as listening to music and encourage others to do the same too.
MAY ALMIGHTY ALLAH GUIDE US ALL TO THE STRAIGHT PATH-
AMEEN
Questions to ponder upon...
Do you pray fajr (morning prayer) in the mosque in Jamaa`ah (gathering) every day?
Do you keep all prayers in the masjid in Jamaa`ah?
Did you read any portion of Allaah’s Book today?
Are you consistent in saying your thikr (words of remembrance) and praise of Allaah (T) and wird (regular daily dhikr) after every prayer?
Do you pray all the regular sunnah prayers (supererogatory prayers) before and after the fard prayers?
Were you humble and sincere in your prayers today, conscious of what you were reciting?
Did you reflect upon death and the grave?
Did you reflect upon the Last Day, its horrors and its perils?
Did you ask Allaah (three times) to let you into the Jennah? For, Anas, radhiallahu `anhu, reported that the Messenger sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said:
When someone asks Allaah (three times) to let him into the Jannah, the Jannah says: ‘O Allaah, let him into his Jannah?’ And when someone asks Allaah (three times) to shelter him from the Fire, the Fire says: ‘O Allaah, protect him from the Fire’.” [At-Tirmidhee, an-Nasaa’ee, and al-Haakim; Saheeh al-Jaami` by al-Albaanee no. 6275]
Did you ask Allaah (three times) to protect you from the Hellfire?
Did you read any of the hadeeth of the Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam?
Did you consider keeping away from evil companions?
Did you try to avoid excessive laughing and joking?
Did you cry today for fear of Allaah?
Did you say the morning and evening thikr?
Did you seek forgiveness for your sins from Allaah for today?
Did you sincerely ask Allaah (ta`ala) for the Shahaadah (martyrdom) today? For, the Messenger of Allaah, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: “Whoever asks Allaah (ta`ala) for the Shahaadah with sincerity, Allaah will grant him the rank of martyrs, even if he dies in bed.” [Muslim and others]
Did you supplicate to Allaah to keep your heart firm upon His Deen?
Did you take advantage of the answerable periods (those during which supplications are answerable) to ask of Allaah?
EVER WONDER WHY?
Why a Jew can grow his beard in order to practice his faith
But when a Muslim man does the same, he is an extremist and terrorist!
Why a nun can be covered from head to toe in order to devote herself to God
But when Muslim woman does the same she is oppressed
When a western women stays at home to look after her house and kids she is respected because of sacrificing herself and doing good for the household?
But when a Muslim woman does so by her will, they say, "she needs to be liberated"!
Any girl can go to university wearing what she wills and have her rights and freedom?
But when Muslim girl wears a Hijab they prevent her from entering her university!
When a child dedicates himself to a subject he has potential.
But when he dedicates himself to Islam he is hopeless!
When a Christian or a Jew kills someone religion is not mentioned, but when Muslim is charged with a crime, it is Islam that goes to trial!
When someone sacrfices himself to keep others alive, he is noble and all respect him.
But when a Palestinian does that to save his son from being killed, his brother's arm being broken, his mother being raped, his home being destroyed, and his mosque being violated -- He gets the title of a terrorist! Why? Because he is a Muslim!
When there is a trouble we accept any solution? If the solution lies in Islam, we refuse to take a look at it.
When someone drives a perfect car in a bad way no one blames the car.
But when any Muslim makes a mistake or treats people in a bad manner - people say "Islam is the reason"!
Without looking to the tradition of Islam, people believe what the newspapers say.
But question what the Quran says!
I Know You Will Respond

What if, Allah couldn't take the time to bless us today because we couldn't take the time to thank Him yesterday?
What if Allah decided to stop leading us tomorrow because we didn't follow Him today?
What if, we never saw another flower bloom because we grumbled when Allah sent the Rain?
What if Allah didn't walk with us today because we failed to recognise it as His day?
What if, Allah took away the Quran tomorrow because we would not read it today?
What if, Allah took away His message because we failed to listen to the messenger?
What if, the door of the Mosque was closed because we didn't open the door of our heart?
What if, Allah stopped loving and caring for us because we failed to love and care for others?
What if, Allah would not hear us today because we would not listen to Him?
What if, Allah answered our prayers the way we answer His calls.
What if, Allah met our needs the way we give Him our lives?
What if, We failed to send this message on?

Salaamo 3laikom Wa Rahmatoulah Wa Barakaat
Hope this message reaches you whilst you are in the best of health and at the peak of Eemaan.
Before you, Muslim brothers and sisters, is a reminder of the Actions and Status that us Muslims are in at this present day and age, except for those whom Allah has shown mercy. I have compiled, by the Will of Allah, a short and brief reminder so that we may ponder upon where we stand today. May Allah forgive me for any mistakes that have been found by the Muslim readers of this compilation, as He is the Most Merciful and Oft-Forgiving.
If are you sitting down or standing.. no problem!
...
...
I will just take a few minutes of your time
....
.................................I want you to imagine.................................
.....
CAN YOU IMAGINE?
......
Imagine JUDGEMENT DAY..When you're standing in front of your Creator and you've commited such acts back in your life..
........
........
What would you wish then?
..........
You would wish to come back to life and ammend all your mistakes, right?
...........
...........
But then wouldn't it be too late?
............
............
Now..Imagine if you were proud of your self because you have done very good in life..
.............
.............
Such as, read the Quran el
Kareem every day and you never missed a prayer..
..............
..............
But wait... do you even read ONE page of the Quran el Kareem a day, understand its meaning and implement it into your own lives?
...............
Do you even pray all your prayers on time?
................
Do you even realise that some of the sinful acts that you commit could lead to your downfall in this life and the Next.
My dear brothers and sisters, lets just wait at this point and THINK about what we are doing with ourselves. Is everything we do according to the Qur'an and Sunnah? Do we even understand what the Qur'an and Sunnah is for...??? Do we even have that slight bit of Eemaan...Or has that also been lost...???
We must realise Oh my dear brothers and sisters that this is merely a pure Gift which Allah Azawajal has bestowed upon us and that He guides and has guided us on the path to a blissful eternity. Then why don't we GRASP onto this Gift and attain Eemaan and Taqwa so that we may be of the Righteous.
I would also like to take this opportunity to enlighten on a couple of verses I came across from the Qur'an:
قد افلح من زكها * وقد خاب من دسها
"Indeed he succeeds who purifies it (i.e. his soul). And indeed, he fails, who corrupts it."
(Soerah Ash-Shams 91: 9 - 10)
و لا تحسبن الله غافلأ عما يعمل الظالمون انما يوء خرهم ليوم تشخص فيه البصار * مهطعين مقنعي رءوسهم لا يرتد اليهم طرفهم وافءدتهم هواء
"Consider not that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do, but He gives respite up to a Day when the eyes will stare in horror. Hastening forward with necks out-stretched, their heads raised up (towards the sky), their gaze returning not towards them and their hearts empty (out of extreme fear)."
(Soerah Al Ibraheem 14: 42 - 43)
So race - O servant of ALlah - to repentance before your repentance will be of no avail to you and you will be surprised by the suddenness of your death - so you will bite your fingers out of regret but by that time, regret will be of no avail and thus say if death arrives to you:
رب ارجعون * لعلي اعمل صالحا فيماتركت
"My Lord! Send me back. So that I may do good in that which I have left behind."
(Soerah Al Mu'minoon 23: 99 - 100)
So it will be Said:
كلا انها كلمة هو قاءلها ومن ؤراءهم برزخ إلى يوم يبعثون
"No. It is but a word that he speaks. And behind them is a barzakh (barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected."
(Soerah Al Mu'minoon 23: 100)
Reports from the Salaf which can also be contemplated upon are as follows:
Umar ibn Al Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him , used to say to his companions:
"Come on, so that we may increase our Eemaan"
Abu Dardaa', may Allah be pleased with him, used to say:
"It is from the intelligence of the servant to know whether he is increasing or decreasing, and indeed, it is from the intelligence of the servant to know how, where and when the whispers of Shaytaan appear to him"
The Imaam of the Ahl as-Sunnah, Ahmed ibn Hanbal, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked as to whether Eemaan increases or decreases. He replied:
"It increases until it reaches the highest part of the seventh Heaven, and it decreases until it reaches the lowest part of the seventh plane."
He also used to say:
"Eemaan is speech and action. It increases and decreases. If you perform good deeds, it increases, and if you do wrong , it decreases."
Narratives taken from (pg 9 - 10), Causes behind the Increase and Decrease of Eemaan by Shaykh Abdur Razzaak Al 'Abbaad
So, my dear brothers and sisters, after reading what has been mentioned above I hope that it would make you think about what needs to be done before it is TOO LATE.
I ask Allah that He guide us on the straight path and forgive for us our sins and enable us to worship Him. I ask Allah that He makes us from those who truly seek His guidance, and who repent to Him in honesty, who praise and glorify Him, and who are blessed by their actions being accepted. And may the peace and blessings be upon Muhammad (SAW)and upon his Family and Companions.
Wa salaamo 3laikom Wa Rahmatoulah Wa Barakaat

Above: 'The True Furqan'
You Cant Ignore this, send it to as many muslims as u can.
The new AMERICAN Quran: a dangerous trick A new Quran
is being distributed in Kuwait, titled "The True
Furqan". It is being described as the ayats of the
Shaytan and Al-Furqan weekly magazine has found out
that the two American printing companies;'Omega 2001'
and 'Wine Press' are involved in the publishing of
'The True Furqan', a book which has also been titled
'The 21st Century Quran'! It is over 366 pages and is
inboth the Arabic and English languages...it is being
distributed to our children in Kuwait in the private
English schools! The book contains 77
Surats, which
include Al-Fatiha, Al-Jana and Al-Injil. Instead of
Bismillah, each Surat begins with a longer vesion of
this incorporating the Christian belief of the three
spirits.
And this so! called Quran opposes many Islamic
beliefs. in one of its ayats it describes having more
than one wife as fornication, divorce being
non-permissable and it uses a new system for the
sharing out of the will, opposing the current one. It
states that Jihad is HARAAM.
This book even goes as far as attacking Allah,
Subhanahu wa Tahala!
All this is poisoning our children at approx. $3.
Brothers and Sisters please make sure you forward this
email to as many people as possible so that we can
stop this dangerous trick.
Please tell everyone you know and may Allah reward
you.

>>The Lessons from Death
>>
>>
>>Life slips away second by second. Are you aware that every day
>>brings you closer to death or that death is as close to you as it
>>is to other people?
>>
>>As we are told in the verse
>>
>> a.. QURAN
>> "Every soul shall taste death in the end; to Us shall you be
>>brought back." (Surat al-'Ankabut: 57
>>Everyone who has ever appeared on this earth was destined to die.
>>Without exception they all died, every one. Today, we hardly come
>>across the traces of many of these people who passed away. Those
>>currently living and those who
will ever live will also face death
>>on a predestined day. Despite this fact, people tend to see death
>>as an unlikely incident.
>>
>>Think of a baby who has just opened its eyes to the world and a man
>>who is about to breathe his last. Both had no influence on their
>>individual birth or death whatsoever. Only God possesses the power
>>to inspire the breath of life or to take it away.
>>
>>All human beings will live until a certain day and then die; God in
>>the Quran gives an account of the attitude commonly shown towards
>>death in the following verse:
>>
>> a.. QURAN
>> Say: "The death from which you flee will truly overtake you:
>>then you will be sent back to the Knower of things secret and open:
>>and He will tell you (the
truth of) the things that you did!"
>>(Surat al-Jumu'ah: 8)
>>The majority of people avoid thinking about death. In the rapid
>>flow of daily events, a person usually occupies himself with
>>totally different subjects: what college to enroll in, which
>>company to work for, what color of clothing to wear next morning,
>>what to cook for supper; these are the kinds of major issues that
>>we usually consider. Life is perceived as a routine process of such
>>minor matters. Attempts to talk about death are always interrupted
>>by those who do not feel comfortable hearing about it. Assuming
>>death will come only when one grows older, one does not want to
>>concern himself with such an unpleasant subject. Yet it should be
>>kept in mind that living for even one further hour
is never
>>guaranteed. Everyday, man witnesses the deaths of people around him
>>but thinks little about the day when others will witness his own
>>death. He never supposes that such an end is awaiting him!
>>
>>Nevertheless, when death comes to man, all the "realities" of life
>>suddenly vanish. No reminder of the "good old days" endures in this
>>world. Think of everything that you are able to do right now: you
>>can blink your eyes, move your body, speak, laugh; all these are
>>functions of your body. Now think about the state and shape your
>>body will assume after your death.
>>
>>From the moment you breathe for the last time, you will become
>>nothing but a "heap of flesh". Your body, silent and motionless,
>>will be carried to the morgue. There,
it will be washed for the
>>last time. Wrapped in a shroud, your corpse will be carried in a
>>coffin to the graveyard. Once your remains are in the grave, soil
>>will cover you. This is the end of your story. From now on, you are
>>simply one of the names represented in the graveyard by a marble
>>stone.
>>
>>During the first months or years, your grave will be visited
>>frequently. As time passes, fewer people will come. Decades later,
>>there will be no-one.
>>
>>Meanwhile, your immediate family members will experience a
>>different aspect of your death. At home, your room and bed will be
>>empty. After the funeral, little of what belongs to you will be
>>kept at home: most of your clothes, shoes, etc, will be given to
>>those who need them.
Your file at the public registration office
>>will be deleted or archived. During the first years, some will
>>mourn for you. Yet, time will work against the memories you left
>>behind. Four or five decades later, there will remain only a few
>>who remember you. Before long, new generations will come and none
>>of your generation will exist any longe r on earth. Whether you are
>>remembered or not will be worthless to you.
>>
>>While all this is taking place in the world, the corpse under the
>>soil will go through a rapid process of decay. Soon after you are
>>placed in the grave, the bacteria and insects proliferating in the
>>corpse due to the absence of oxygen will start to function. The
>>gasses released from these organisms will inflate the body,
>>starting from the abdomen, altering its shape and appearance.
>>Bloody froth will pop out the mouth and nose due to the pressure of
>>gasses on the diaphragm. As corruption proceeds, body hair, nails,
>>soles, and palms will fall off. Accompanying this outer alteration
>>in the body, internal organs such as lungs, heart and liver will
>>also decay. In the meantime, the most horrible scene takes place in
>>the abdomen, where the skin can no longer bear the pressure of
>>gasses and suddenly bursts, spreading an unendurably disgusting
>>smell. Starting from the skull, muscles will detach from their
>>particular places. Skin and soft tissues will completely
>>disintegrate. The brain will decay and start looking like clay.
>>This process will go on until the whole body is
reduced to a
>>skeleton.
>>
>>There is no chance of going back to the old life again. Gathering
>>around the supper table with family members, socializing or to
>>having an honorable job will never again be possible.
>>
>>In short, the "heap of flesh and bones" to which we assign an
>>identity faces a quite nasty end. On the other hand, you - or
>>rather, your soul - will leave this body as soon as you breathe
>>your last. The remainder of you - your body - will become part of
>>the soil.
>>
>>Yes, but what is the reason for all these things happening?
>>
>>If God willed, the body would never have decayed in such a way.
>>That it does so actually carries a very important inner message in
>>itself.
>>
>>The
tremendous end awaiting man should make him acknowledge that he
>>is not a body himself, but a soul "encased" within a body. In other
>>words, man has to acknowledge that he has an existence beyond his
>>body. Furthermore, man should understand the death of his body
>>which he tries to possess as if he is to remain eternally in this
>>temporal world. However this body, which he deems so important,
>>will decay and become worm-eaten one day and finally be reduced to
>>a skeleton. That day might be very soon.
>>
>>Despite all these facts, man's mental process is inclined to
>>disregard what he does not like or want. He is even inclined to
>>deny the existence of things he avoids confronting. This tendency
>>seems to be most apparent when death is the issue. Only a funeral
>>or the sudden death of an immediate family member brings this
>>reality to mind. Almost everybody sees death far from himself. The
>>assumption is that those who die while sleeping or in an accident
>>are different people and what they face will never befall us!
>>Everybody thinks it is too early to die and that there are always
>>years ahead to live.
>>
>>Yet most probably, people who die on the way to school or hurrying
>>to attend a business meeting shared the same thought. They probably
>>never thought that the next day's newspapers would publish news of
>>their deaths. It is entirely possible that, as you read these
>>lines, you still do not expect to die soon after you have finished
>>them or even entertain the possibility that it might happen.
>>Probably you feel that it is too early to die because there are
>>many things to accomplish. However, this is just an avoidance of
>>death and these are only vain endeavors to escape it:
>>
>> a.. QURAN
>> Say: "Running away will not profit you if you are running away
>>from death or slaughter; and even if (you do escape), no more than
>>a brief (respite) will you be allowed to enjoy!" (Surat al-Ahzab:
>>16)
>>Man who is created alone should be aware that he will also die
>>alone. Yet during his life, he lives almost addicted to
>>possessions. His sole purpose in life becomes to possess more. Yet,
>>no-one can take his goods with him to the grave. The body is buried
>>wrapped in a shroud made from the cheapest of fabrics. The body
>>comes
into this world alone and departs from it in the same way.
>>The only asset one can take with him when one dies is one's belief
>>or disbelief.
