View Full Version : Riddle: Husband and Wife
Once a husband and a wife had a very big argument. it so happened that they were angry at each other and made a very grave mistake. The argument was a really big one that they got so annoyed with each other that the man without thinking said "I swear by Allah that i will never talk 2 u until u talk to me first." soon after the wife because of her anger said to her husband "I, too, swear by Allah that I will not talk to you unless u talk to me first" This was an oath they both made. At first they didn't realize the mistake they made but after a few days they became very lonely. However an oath is an oath and they cant do nothing about it (by the way we should no that three days should not pass with enmity) meanwhile they went to pious leaders to ask 4 a solution 2 their prob. but no matter how many people they asked no1 could solve it. this happened at the time of Imam Abu Hanifa (1 of the great scholars) sot they finally went 2 him. they thought it was useless as no1 could solve the prob. but surprisingly he didn't find it difficult in fact he solved it in a few seconds.
Can you figure out the solution?
ps. if you know the answer then put your hand up then speak! don't wanna give it away too soon!

Assalam Alaykum Wa Rahmut Allah,
There arte two points that I would like to say:
1. The answer of this riddle is very trivial. The husband made an oath that he would not speak until his wife speaks to him. And she did speak to him when she said her oath. Then the husband's oath is already fullfilled and he is supposed to speak to his wife whenever he wants.
2. I dont want to be rude, but I dought the authenticity of your story. If the couple really went to the so-called 'pious leaders' to solve the problem, atleast one of the pious leaders should have known the following ahadith:
a) The Prophet (PBUH) said: "A vow to do an act of disobedience must not be fulfilled." [Sahih Muslim].
Because the Prophet (PBUH) said: "It is not permissible for a Muslim to avoid his brother for more than three nights." [Agreed upon]. (You said that in your story, "by the way we should no that three days should not pass with enmity")
b) The Prophet (PBUH) aslo said:
"And when you swear an oath and consider something else to be better than it, make atonement for your oath and do the thing that is better." [Agreed upon].
In this case it is better for both couples to break the oath and make make atonement for it.
Can you tell me the source of your article (other than email), or a book that I can reference?
And Allah knows best.
the husband can talk with his wife because after he swore she talked with him. well in anger she said something not very nice , she said the same thing like him,but she talked. what is the solution?

didnt that happen in Abu Hanifa (ra) time???
yeh the oath was broken as the wife spoke to the husband, but the wife's oath was not broken untill he spoke to her.
Now two things happens an oath was made on an act of disobedient, does the oath become invalid straight away as an oath is an oath no matta wot it is done about. So 2 break it u still have to go through the proceedures of Fidya

The riddle is old as Islam Subhanawata'Allah......
So, for FINALITY what is the OFFICIAL answer?
Is the answer, she spoke to him making the same vow, thus releasing him from his vow?
