which would you prefer... a beautiful pious sister or a educated pious sister...

let me be specific, we are talking about university education not islamic education, and were talking about sisters born and bred in uk not freshies :rolleyes:

or a ok sister with a degree....

its not about education that matters actually, but one being responsible, practicing, faithful and above all willing to learn and improve one's marriage life and willing to learn together. I've seen so many couples without high education but they are happy and raise their kids well, and i've also seen couple with high education level but having problems in their marrriage life. i think it's all about attitude. although in Islam it's advisable to have kafa'ah in marriage.

ohh to add, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it can be relative. i've seen some men who married again inspite of having a beautiful wife already lol.

look the prophet (saw) said a person can marry for one of four reasons,

piety, beauty, status, wealth...

now piety is the best and will give the other three...

but what im saying is ok what is next in priority... you got two sisters good piety now what would be the criteria the brothers use to judge now...

so some would want to marry someone with a degree cus they see that shes educated , got higher status etc etc

some would want to marry the more beautiful one cus they not really fussed is shes got a degree or not...

Maryam,Asiya,Fatimah and Khadijah...

Fatimah(ra) used to work so hard at home that she had rough hands...
And she used to carry water from til she had a mark from it...

But Aisha (ra) was a lot more knowledgable than fatimah regarding islamic knowledge,yet The Prophet (saw) mentioned Fatimah amongst the 4 best women in the history of mankind...

For me...Deen comes first...then beauty...then experience of life...(ie knowing how to deal with different situations and people...different circumstances etc,this can't be learnt from any Uni)...

Well according to some islamic scholars and mufties that I know, it is considered haraam for a sister to go out and get a degree, so if a sister knows it is haraam for her to do something, yet she chooses to do it, does that not make her unpious?! For example, how can you choose to commit haraam and be pious? So from the knowledge I have learn from quran, ahadith, and after reading and understanding the views of many scholars and mufties, I think this poll is a bit silly!

Also, for the original poster, what if you find a seriously beautiful sister who is more beautiful AND educated than a sister who is not educated?

I think the sisters are missing the point that having a degree is different from having intelligence and that was the point of the thread...

People who look for a wife etc sometimes look only for those with a degree...but is that a real reflection of their intellect...

Which Mufti and sheikh said it was haram for a sister to get a degree...

Remeber everyone has a different concept of beauty, what you may find beautiful others may not. 'Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder'.

Education and deen are far more importnt, they stay with you for life, help you along the way, helps you raise your children, the list is endless.

Fatimah (ra) was not as educated as Aishah (ra)...But she is considered to be one of the best women in the history of mankind,because she was such a good wife...

So the obvious choice is not education...

But in this instance it isnt about that...
It's simply about which are u going to look at first...A degree or beauty...
Now I have heard of lots of sisters wanting to get married to "professionals"...asking for degrees etc...
But does a degree really say that a person is clever...

yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder... well isnt the value of a degree in the eyes of the beholder aswell.. i mean someone tells me computer science is a degree ill be like get ur dumbself back into uni and get a proper degree :rolleyes:

I'd take piety above all, as recommended. However, being a pretty normal guy, I'd take into account other things, brains, beauty, perhaps wealth etc.

Another thing I wondered was, how come people look down on good-looking but 'dumb' women, but have the utmost of respect for the opposite. The only thing that the person really has control of is piety.
