The story of Adam and Eve as described in the Quran IS AN ALLEGORY, A PARABLE.

The Quran is NOT to be taken literally, or else you are no better than the Talibans.

Here's a quote posted quite a while back. It brought up an interesting question...is the Qur'an meant to be taken literally?

...just to get everyone's perspective...

Thanks

Easy question. But requires a detailed answer. Better to ask a Scholar on this .

Read surah al Imran , chapter 3, verse 7 for example.

SOme verses are literial, But the Quran containes many styles of getting the message across to human kind ( as we understand it), so that itappeal to every type of person, of every type of intelligence and understanding. . Many verses are not literal, and have deeper hidden meanings, that certain people can see to some degree better then others, because they are blessed with "insight".

Allah knows best.

I feel we ourselves cannot and should not choose to define what is literal and what is not literal , because of our limited knowledge, and our limited skills in undertsanding the Quran. The ulema , are there to help us and make things CLEAR.

As for the story of Adam and Eve. it is obviously literal, because of the manner in which it is told, and how it is mentioned in the PRophetic hadith too.
