View Full Version : What can we wear to swim?

I would like advice on what we muslims (brothers) can wear to swim (esp. in public) considering the fact that we must not expose our awrah (from the navel to the knees). I tried searching online shopping sites but all I found was shorts that were just too short.

Pls if u have any advice let me know as soon as possible 'cos I'm basing my registering for swimming lessons on whether or not I can get suitable clothes and the deadline for registration is Thursday, 9th. Please also include info on where I can get it (prefarably online stores based in america).

:jkk:

p.s: I guess something that goes well beyond the knees when I stand will be much better so that I can move freely without fearing that my awrah will be exposed.

just swim in your clothes, thats how you'd have to do it if you were on a sinking ship!

dude, have you ever been to the beach and see the guys that wear speedos? Most are at least 50 lbs overweight and wind up looking like they are wearing a thong as their butt cheeks attempt to swallow the fabric.:vomit:
The only plausible reason to wear a speedo is that you are a speed swimmer or you want to display yer bits...and we aint talking computers

i been swimming only with brothers though. remeber you not allowed to see other peoples awrah too. so going swimming in publick with the kaffir is difficult. htese people have no awrah. sand also if its mixed not allowed anyway.

go find few brothers hire out the pool and go swiming. i sued to wea vest and 3/4 shorts. those go below your knees

If you're in the UK isn't the water always cold?
How about a wettie. Or maybe just a rashie and long boardies.

What about a pair of cycling shorts? - they usually come to knee length at least. You can get them in most sport shops, and because they're lycra they're fairly easy to swim in.

I got some myself :)

Oh! :jkk: y'all for all the advice.

Just to clarify: it's not for the beach, its for swimming lessons at my uni's pool.

About what to wear, I think the best option is a combination of speedos & boardshorts/bball shorts/3/4's.

But considering al-ghurabah's post, I might change my mind. I know there'll be some kafirs there with their awrahs exposed but i was thiinking I could kinda avoid them. I dunno, maybe I'll just postpone learning to swim till anoda time when I'm sure i'll be free from such evil.
