As-Salamu Alaikum

Is their any brothers/sisters who are actively involved with your Islamic Society of your University? Do you hold weekly lectures? What type of activities do you organize?

Though that was quite amusing to read (good one :D masha'allah) I think it was a set of serious queries.

Yes it does count. Its nice to see that the brother/sister is willing to share the Barakah with others.

Yeh SubhanAllah, many activities take place at the ISOC.....every week there are several circles...some 1 hr, some shorter 15 minute reminders..........tajweed lessons mashAllah........all the sisters get together to celebrate Eid Mashallah.......sometimes a outside speaker will come in now and again and give a talk to the brothers and sisters.............during ramadan, iftaar together (thats sisters with sisters........not sisters with brothers yeh....lol....thought I'd clarify.........)......etc......

I think having a good base, like a prayer room, alhumdulillah is the key, and a excellent head sister and head brother....

such activities really unite the sisters subhanAllah..........Ive never met SUCH sincere sisters as I have done in university.......subhanAllah.....

Dont ask me what the bros do.....I havent got a clue....lol

sadly I don't have that much time 2 be so involved in my Isoc :( This past week was Islam awareness week and I have not helped at all or gone 2 ne of their events :S I just rush off home after my lecs n dnt hang around @ uni these days although still I use the facilies of their prayer room and books lol :D I did more last year, I would like to do more but its just finding the time and really I kinda split my time between my uni and Baba's uni so I can't exactly commit myself to my Isoc when I'm mostly @ Imperial anyway :p but masha allah we do have a good isoc and lovely sisters involved wit it

alhamdulilah at richmond college we have a very good islamic society.
almost every day we have reminders in the prayer and about once a half term we have a lecture or a sheikh coming in.
inshallah we hope to have a massive dawah event where some top notch people may come down inshallah (cant reveal no details yet)!

we also organise other events like paintballing, football, sisters talks, and for the first time: a camping trip in the summer inshallah.

at the moment we are going through a rough patch so please make dua for us. we are only a college after and not a uni so we dont have tht much amount of funding etc. in fact all our funding comes from donations!!

My Universities Isoc is ...well kinda non existent. We've had out prayer room move to like 3 different locations in one year, and at some points we didnt even have a prayer room :( last semester the prayer room was in a portable cabin, and the sisters entrance is to go round the back and up some metal stairs on the outside of the building (well scary) and the door is usally locked tho, if there is no sisters there then u can onli hope a brother will hear from the divider and open the door :S not very discreet or ideal. But I would love to get involved more in the Isoc but they don't have an email address of anything so I'm a bit stuck and I dnt really go prayer room. Help!

Well Im not really that involved with the isoc...I help when I can. Ours is similar to what others have said here..basically Tajweed/Arabic every week for the sisters...Seerah classes currently on once a week. We have well renowned speakers coming in sometimes [none this yr yet]...there was a talk this week but its been re-scheduled. Anyway...our pray room is the main place for the sisters...thats where we pray/chillout/chat and eat....and where the bro's tell the sisters to chup :o :|. [Basically we share a prayer room with curtain splitting up the brothers from the sisters]. We have Eid parties for sisters :D also other events like IAW's..stuff like that...its cool

LOL! indeed, not a good example at all. My uni was in the news, apparently there was a big argument bcos theu SU president oked HT coming to do a talk, it got cancelled and the SU president got escorted away (btw, SU president wasnt muslim, but he believed in freedom of speech!) saw it on the uni website.

Insha'Allah I'm jus gonna go prayer room and talk 2 some sisters c what they think about the isoc situation

as salaamu alaikum,

if i was you, i'd:

- proclaim myself president.
- completely dissolve the current isoc.
- appoint executive and administrative assistants.
- put posters up all notice boards informing the whole university of the new isoc, and leave contact details for those interested in joining i.e. an email address would be more than sufficient.
- approach the student union for support for the university to designate a prayer room for the muslims.
- make a petition, and get as many students to sign it, even those who are not muslim.
- approach those in charge of the university and demand that they give the muslims a prayer room, preferably near the toilets, and one each for the brothers and sisters.
- make a website, or even a biyearly news paper of some sort to keep the muslims up to date on matters that concern them.

thats just a quick brain storm, i'm sure there's a lot more that can be done.
