Making Bitmap files ur avatar?

I was wodnering how can I make a bitmap file into a avatar? Somone said something baout photoshop.

well really I think gif is the best as it is a smaller file size.
Photo shop you only need if you are going to design the avatar youself.
Any standard image you found online you can save to your computer and then upload as your avatar

jpeg is far better than giff, and yes photoshop is for image manipulation.

if i'm readying your post correctly, you want to use a bitmap file as an avatar. or want to use a part of a bitmap image. i am not 100 certain for sure if this board will allow you to use bitmap avatars, might want to try it. you can use windows 'paint' to change a file into a jpeg/giff, just save as with a different file extension.but if you want to make your own avatar, using parts of this bitmap image, than photoshop is your best bet. start with a new canvas, 140px by 140px, when done use the 'save for web' option under the 'file' menu.

If it's just a matter that it's a bitmap then it probably means the file size is too big to make it an avatar...(max is 13kb i think)...

You can do it with photoshop...But not everyone has it...so here's how to do it on paint

Everyone has paint or some such program...(i'm sure linux has and equivalent)
Go to paint...and click SAVE AS...choose JPEG...should save as a much smaller file...

Also if your pic is too large...(ie the dimentions are more than 140 x 140 pixels)
Go To IMAGE (in the top List of Menu's...Top of the screen)
Select Stretch/Skew...(ctrl +W)
Now depending how big the image was,will depend how much you have to shrink it by...
You can check the attributes...(ctrl + E)
If It's still not small enough..Skew somemore

It's much easier on photoshop...(if ur used to using it and if u have it)
But there's not much point in having/getting it if u dont actually design things...
