View Full Version : Shahadah?
Can it be said in English or does it need to be said in Arabic? If the latter is true does anyone have an Audio clip so I can hear the proper pronunciation? It's one thing to see the words spelled phonetically but it's another to actually hear

Thank you, I do appreciate the offer. My main problem is that here isn't really a large Muslim community anywhere close to me so online is really the only place that I have to ask questions. Now I just have to round up 2 muslims to say Shahadah in front of.
Kayled, many thanks for taking the time and effort to do that for me. I really appreciate that

It should be said in Arabic, but its necessary to know what it means, since that is the basis of the whole way-of-life/ideology. I've given some links below that go in-depth. I hope they benefit you inshaAllah (means Allah willing):

We had another brother say the shahaadah last Sunday at the Islamic Centre Alhamdulillaah. MashaAllah, we are only 11 days into the year and we have heard it 3 times already.
InshaAllah this year we will beat last years record which was about 60-65 reverts. Allahu Akbar!
May Allah guide you and us bloodwine :)

Mr Bloodwine, arabic is easy to pronounce, we muslims are lucky that Arabic is our religious language and not French:(. Ash- ha- du alla - ila - ha illAllah Wa- Ash-ha-du anna Muhammad - ar Rasulul-lah...pronounce it the way it's written. with 1 to 2 day practice with a brother via audio chat InshaAllah you can make it. May Allah guide you and keep you away from doubt.
Thanks everyone for the kind words and thoughts but I am not quite ready yet. I have a few things that I still have to resolve in my head and heart. Give me a few more days to work through some stuff. I am not one to just jump in blindly or by gut feeling alone. Islam feels right in my heart but my head still needs convincing

Salam
My advice wanted or not :rolleyes:
Faith can only come from the heart and it is faith that makes firm your beliefs. Your beliefs dictate your thoughts and your actions so follow your heart first and foremost.
Allah All Mighty says in the Noble Qur'an
"....and know that Allah cometh in between the man and his own heart, and that He it is unto Whom ye will be gathered.
{8:24}
"Indeed in this there is a remembrance for those who have a living heart, listen attentively and earnestly witnesses (the truth)."
{50:37}
"That is because they believed, then they rejected Faith: So a seal was set on their hearts: therefore they understand not."
{63:3}
Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah)
Alaikum salam
Praise be to Allaah.
It is not essential for the one who wants to utter the twin testimony of faith (al-shahaadatayn) to have witnesses present. He may simply utter the words with his tongue, and that is sufficient for him to enter Islam.

Make that 6.
We have 6 new brothers/sisters in Islam so far this year.
One brother (Chris) said the Shahaadah today after Jum3ah prayer in front of a few hundred Muslims. May Allah continue to guide him and us, Ameen. Allahu Akbar!
The 2 others (one brother, one sister) made the Shahaadah on Wednesday at a class I didn't attend.

ALLAHU AKBAR!!!
LOL I have been trying to learn to recite the Shahadah and thought I had gotten fairly close. I recorded it and played it back and I have to say that I am not even close compared to what Kayled was gracious enough to record for me. I will be saying Shahadah as soon as I can get my tongue around the phrase so it's intelligible.
I guess that it is true that it is easier to learn languages when you are younger. I never had this much trouble learning basic phrases when I lived in Iraq
