History and Islam

Often when Islamic history is discussed, the images and ideas which first pop to mind are empires such as the Ottomans and Umayyad, and we then tend to look into them for Islamic truth, or to gain more knowledge on Islam …
The truth is, in the history of the Islamic Ummah, we had some bad leaders, whom lead to the decline of political influence in Islam. So first let us start by warning that history is not a source to gain religious knowledge rather it is for academic knowledge, but nonetheless, while studying the history of Islam, you will find something beautiful, which we will discuss later in this article.

Lucky we were already left with two things: The Quran and Sunnah to seek truth upon…

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur'an and my example, the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.
All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me direcly. Be my witness oh Allah that I have conveyed your message to your people."
- Rasool Muhammad (saws)

So now that we have that clear, let us discuss to major points needed to understand the history, present and future if the Ummah of Muhammad.

The Ummah is a universal community in which:
1) belief and tenents without political center telling us what to do …
for example, you will see that a muslim in China will pray in the same direction as a muslim living in the United States. Also, when you go to two very different cities, you will see that one thing that is done the same is that when the Athan goes off, all the muslims pray, and pray the same way for the most part.

2) Universality without political Hegemony (supremacy) …
A good way to explain this is looking at the British colonies, and how they acted upon the culture and ethics of British culture …
Unlike islam, in which there is no cultural influence yet, the religion has become universal and globally practiced the same .

So when looking at these two points we understand the importance and beauty of Islam as a system and see the Ummah as a global community with no language border.
